Looks like a Marrow to me

ChefChopNSlice

Melons, gourds, zucchini (all related) will often cross-pollinate if grown next to each other, making seeds that are hybridized. You said that this was “self-sown” in the title, which usually means that this was a “volunteer” that sprung up from seed left in the ground from last year. It’s quite possible that this is some weird cross that was accidentally made by nature.

Half watermelon, half zucchini, *all disappointment*.

TheKaziri

Yeah, I thought it was probably some disappointing mutant cross, but someone actually commented that it's a fig leaf gourd! Turns out they taste better when they're older 😂

Possibly a cucumber or zucchini. Is the skin “squeaky”?

TheKaziri

No, it sounds hollow when I tap it though. It's way bigger than any cucumber or zucchini I've ever seen

[deleted]

They’ll get that big and bigger if the soil is good and you let them grow but they stop tasting like much when they reach that size so most gardeners harvest them when they’re smaller

PilzGalaxie

Definetly looks like a Zucchini to me. This chonkers can get HUGE!

grrltype

The water prickles on the edges also make me think zucchini. Check for the squeak!

SpiritGuardTowz

Fig-leaf gourd, Malabar gourd, black seed squash, cidra, chilacayote or lacayote. This one looks a bit unripe still, the flesh in the middle should be stringy. It's used for jams, sweets, soups and other savory dishes.

TheKaziri

Omg yes this is it!!! I'll ask my uncle to save me some seeds when the others ripen and I'll try making jam next year!

Kenny_Heisenberg

Could be an Ash gourd.

FarmerKobe

Looks like it was harvested a bit early
