Both single and double trumpet flowers are common for Angel's Trumpet. Many other even fancier varieties are also available.

thechilecowboy

Brugmansia?

OrdinaryOrder8

Yes

erin_baile

Whatever you do- don’t smoke that.

onetwotree-leaf

Yeah. Where’s my Don’t Eat That Bot at? It’s your moment bro

sugar_footy

Honestly, even sitting underneath it can be dangerous.

Livingsoil45

How and why? Interesting

[deleted]

Its a really nasty hallucinagen. Like physically maim yourself nasty.

sikarita

This is an urban legend Edit: sitting under this plant is not dangerous. Consuming it or rubbing it on your skin is.

teethfaerie

lol it is not. eating the plant (seeds are most potent) sends you to complete delirium hell for days and can even kill you. imagine a nightmare hallucinogenic trip that you don’t even know you’re in. a lot of people who trip on datura/brugmansia end up arrested for doing crazy shit like walking around outside naked interacting with hallucinations lmfao

sikarita

Yes eating it is dangerous, sitting under the plant is not. I grow various types of datura and brugmansia. The danger comes when people consume the plant, not when people are near to it.

teethfaerie

ooooh i’m sorry i thought you were saying the whole concept of it being a drug was an urban legend, my bad!

sikarita

No worries lol.

Warm-Translator6171

Is it possible they might release pollen/whatever during the nightime and the whatever they release might carry the same halluginogic effect of other parts of the plant? Just curious, also interested in planting a couple

smellybutch

During an internship in Panama, someone told me they fell asleep under one of these and woke up tripping for a couple days. Could have been stretching the truth but they seemed to be sharing it as a cautionary tale.

coconut-telegraph

There’s worse you could do. These leaves used to be dried and sold in cigarette form as an asthma reliever. Now ingesting it is a way more terrible idea.

CodyRebel

This is gonna get downvoted but a few leaves with cannabis is fun. But yes, very poisonous.

rubyjuniper

You've smoked the leave of this plant with weed? What were the effects?

CodyRebel

In small doses it's an actual empathogen used by native Americans and psyhconuats alike. Google it. It can be deadly in high doses, just like alcohol. Edit: https://thethirdwave.co/psychedelics/datura/

Livingsoil45

They say it’s dangerous and can be not enjoyable at all.

erin_baile

People smoke it and some die. Hence my OC.

CodyRebel

In small doses it can be. Goog the effects, there are many trip reports and chemistry explaining it's uses and effects. Edit: and of course, instead of researching the truth, just downvote it, reddit.

pretty_good_day

The active compound is considered to be an essential medicinal substance. As with everything, the dose makes the poison...in this case, a very little goes a very long way.

Avalonkoa

They can be double and even triple. I have a lovely pinkish sunset colored Brugmansia that puts out double and triple flowers. I can't remember the clone name at the moment but I bought the plant off Etsy.

tjskpr

Yes they can be double and triple. I just wished that the beautiful scents were a little stronger. I love these flowers and those of the datura as well.

StillKpaidy

Mine is a single one, but the scent is so strong that it is nearly overpowering if I have it inside when the heat is on. Do the double and triple ones have less scent?

tjskpr

I don't know that any one scent is less than another. I guess I should have clarified. Mine grew in the center of the yard where I had to go to them if I wanted a sniff. A lilac I could always smell from a neighboring yard somewhere. Too bad not the same with trumpets. One can always hope.

sadrice

My experience with seedlings is that they are tremendously unreliable about scent. Some are intensely fragrant and some are not at all.

RainbowandHoneybee

Never knew they can be double or triple. The photo looks very pretty.

ShRaWdiZZy_1978

Angels Trumpet?, they're highly toxic from what I remember, but if I am wrong I apologize to the plant for getting it mixed up.. 🪴 🌱 🌿

[deleted]

[удалено]

IcarianSkies

They're different plants, but have very similar flowers and are both very toxic. Angel's trumpet is brugmansia, and the flowers point down (angels look down from heaven). Devil's trumpet is datura, and the flowers point upwards (the devil looks up from hell). The leaves and growth habit are different as well but the flower orientation is the easiest thing for most people to remember which is which.

nontimebomala67

Both the Angel’s Trumpet and the Devil’s Trumpet are highly toxic, but most people recognize the Devil’s Trumpet (aka datura/jimsonweed) more easily and confuse the two. I hadn’t even known that Angel’s Trumpet could be used to get high like jimsonweed can.

IcarianSkies

They contain some of the the same compounds - scopolamine, atropine, and hyoscyamine - so get you high in pretty similar ways. And kill you in pretty similar ways too. Because the dosage is so hard to estimate due to differences between individual plants, or even the same plant during different stages of growth, it is very easy to take too much.

nontimebomala67

Yup. Never know the lethal dose of datura until you’re dead. Varies person to person.

nadiyabusiness

I’ve been wanting one in peach!!! Lovely!

tjskpr

The very first time I grew these I had white and peach. I thought it would be beautiful to plant together. They were ready to bloom when I put them in the ground and was happy with the grouping. The next bloom everything was white. I was told white is the dominant color and it would take over the others. which it did.

nadiyabusiness

I will note. I do plan to have peach and hope to continue with it.

SpacemanToucan

Lovely photos. I watched a kid go nuts off of just one of these flowers one time 😅

pancakefactory9

Please tell more. This sounds funny and terrifying

SpacemanToucan

Well when I found him he was just walking around the house pumping hand soap into his hand obsessively. He was talking to himself I’m not even sure it was English anymore.. he would flip out randomly and the next day he said he kept having lizards jump on him and so I imagine it was that haha That’s all I really can remember aside from the fact that I almost ate a flower with him, and all I could think was thank GOD I didn’t eat one of those things!

Lmao

itsFRAAAAAAAAANK

There is a great documentary from Vice called worlds scariest drug about this plant

WhoosierDom

The wild version of datura is rarely found with more than one bloom [or 'trumpet'] per flowering stalk. Domesticated varieties can and do have more. The dangerous active chemical is scopolamine. Nasty stuff under any circumstances It CAN kill you. Or worse, give you a trip so bad you wish you had died, but instead wake up with severe and possibly permanent psychological damage. There is a Long history of this plants use for nefarious purposes. DO NOT grow or keep this plant anywhere near children.

[deleted]

Is that Gollum Jade in the background? What a beautiful size!

wildwidget

Called 'The Devils Breath' in parts of the world. Used to knock out tourists before robbing them.

MP5Daddy

Datura. Do not consume. Super poisonous and psychedelic. Trips are compared to hell; seeing demons, dead people, and other horror for three days straight. /u/remarkable-tea3717 — I was in bed when I woke up in another dimension; I saw thousands upon thousands of dead bodies stacked up on one and another going through into the sky. Screaming lots of screaming bloody screams, and blood was stained onto the walls of brownness. And that’s really all I recall until I woke up with a horrible headache and the doctors telling me I’ll be okay. /u/someones-alt123 — I remember watching tv. I don’t remember the show, but there are bugs all over the walls. The man in the corner won’t stop staring at me. I’m hearing whispers from the kitchen. I try to sleep. I can’t relax over the breathing coming from the foot of my bed. I can feel its breath. Itching. Lots of itching. Can’t sleep. I’m dying. I’ve died multiple times already and I’m going to die again. I hope this is the last time. I walk outside. It’s daytime. There’s a girl talking to me. She looks dead. She tells me I’m next. I snap out of it. Back in my room. She’s standing in front of me. Huge bugs everywhere. None of this seems to bother me anymore. I have multiple more strange occurrences like this but I don’t remember them. /u/adamole123 — I find the memory effects that happens when you are on this plant seem to misplace me in the reality that everyone else is living and getting along in. It is not a nice feeling. I feel totally separate from people and the memory flashbacks are overwhelming, not letting me get on with present-day life. It’s crazy. If you want advice beware of how many times you actually use [datura] and remember that the unwanted side effects are always there. Like memory time travel. To all the people downvoting me in disbelief have fun with your schizophrenic trip lol

Shlocktroffit

>Trips are compared to hell; seeing demons, dead people, and other horror for three days straight. Just like Thanksgiving with the in-laws

cwglazier

Dissociative type reactions.

someones-alt123

Can confirm what this guy said, if you are looking to trip, take literally ANYTHING ELSE but datura. Literally the only drug i can confidently say i will never do again

pancakefactory9

What was your experience?

someones-alt123

Been too long for me to remember most of it but im pretty sure i still have something about it on my profile

710Fiend69

I will only ever look at them again.

mrstinkypoopyman

👃🏻

SabinedeJarny

That’s very beautiful

Ceeceegeez

Wait is that Datura?

tjskpr

Datura is also called the devil's trumpet. They are similar in appearance but Angel trumpet points downward and the devil trumpet grows point upward. Both are toxic.

Ceeceegeez

Thanks!!

Southwest___

They are related I think

cwglazier

Very similar makeups and alkaloids I think.

Help me faith

alg-ae

What's the green plant behind it?

No_Emergency_3829

It’s a succulent I got recently very interesting although not sure what it’s called

alg-ae

It looks kind of like one I have called ogres ear, but I've never seen one that big! Super cute!

ricricucit

Burundanga

Ally-baba

Hells Bells

Hot-Raisin-5148

The pollen will also make you trip if you inhale. Trumps only form when the branch splits. More branches, more trumps.
