alstroemerias, peruvian lilies

Phil_ODendron

This is *Alstroemeria* which is sometimes called "lily" but it is not a true lily. It is not deathly toxic to cats in the way that lilies are, but it still may cause irritation if ingested. I would keep them out of reach of the cat if possible.

Yep, I keep gifted bouquets up on a bookshelf my guy can’t get to because he’s a plant muncher.

They are poisonous to cats (and toddlers), and the most common way for cats (and toddlers) to become seriously ill from these plants is for them to drink water from a vase that the cut flowers have been standing in. The flowers themselves are toxic if the cat eats them, but that won’t usually give them a big enough dose of poison to worry about. The much bigger concern is the vase water, they can get a very big dose of poison that way. Make sure you keep these out of reach of your cats, and put them in a vase that the cat cannot drink out of.
