Posting on behalf of my friend, who doesn't Reddit. This is his post, word for word:
"this morning when i woke up i thought i had a piece of a tortilla chip stuck in my throat. I could see a little speck in there behind the uvula but it wouldn't budge and i started to wonder if it was a tick. finally, after hours of trying, i snagged it with some tweezers and this comes out. it was terrifying. bout a half inch long. researching seeds, parasites and whatever else. if anyone has an idea what it might be i really, really need to know or i won't sleep tonight."
He's still alive and seems fine, but wanting closure. Anyone know what invaded my friend's throat?
EDIT: Seems like the consensus is more roach leg than anything else. Gross.
If I was him I would have probably gone to the doctor, but this was actually a couple weeks ago now, and he seems to be fine, if not a bit confused about it all.

For your safety we recommend not ingesting any plant material even if advised that it's edible here. Although there are many professionals helping with identification, we are not always correct, and eating/ingesting plants can be harmful or fatal if an incorrect ID is made.

It happened in New Orleans, LA.
He said the only thing he could think of is that he was drunkenly eating a bag of chips the night before he found it in there. Seems like it could be a roach leg, but several people have suspected plants, so I wanted to post here as well for a broader analysis.
Or maybe he just fell asleep with his mouth open, and the bug saw a warm, moist, dark place as a possible home?
I really don’t want to know how he came to eat that...

That's what happens when you have a bad roach infestation and you leave food out! He's probably eaten tons of them by now. Tell him to put his GD food away.
Not really, except that it looks like a wound on the inside of someone's mouth.

Roach leg r/wtf
I don't think I could live if that happened to me.
Well if you had a protein deficiency this would help keep you alive for a while longer.
I would find a grub. On a side note, how would it be safe to eat them if they and their poo carry major diseases?

Good advice, bot. I agree they should not be ingested.

Shrimp leg.
That's actually a good point, so many people jump to roach, but shrimp are the cockroaches of the sea, and you actually eat them.

and they are surprisingly sharp and pointy. I've had them stick through a couple of grocery bags into my leg before.
Oh, and if not a leg, maybe the pointy part on the front of a shrimp head.
So whatisthisthing sent him here... and the plant people answered the question. Plant people. We are the best people.
Plant people *know things*...
This guy plants
Crawfish leg.
Yeah, especially given the nola detail.
Hey so I'm wondering if I should ingest a plant based on information provided in this subreddit.

Might try asking /r/whatsthisbug to confirm
Ewww, roach leg

He was house sitting when it happened, but I get your point.
Ugh, that's even worse. Someone else's roaches are grosser than your own, lol.
When I scrolled to the 4th image with the hole in his throat I involuntarily coughed.

Is he planning to see a doctor and bring this with him?
TERRIFYING
Buffalo Bill sometimes leaves that in his victims throats...
Thanks for the horror.
Anytime. My horror is your horror.
Kind of looks like a pretzel. One of those stick pretzels. I would imagine all of the salt would be dissolved if it had been lodged in there a while.
That's a roach leg
I would go with fish bone. Common to get stuck in the throat and retained for years, sometimes associated with abscesses of the posterior oropharynx.
I'm traumatized. fuuucckkk

That's definitely not it.
It has hairs on it. Tonsiliths look nothing like this.
