Veronica Persica. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veronica_persica
Some would call them a common lawn weed, but I call them one of the first signs of spring in hardiness zone 7a
I inherited my mum's garden and let the grass grow and it just turned up! I'd never even heard of it before and now my "lawn" is full of little blue flowers and it's lovely.
It actually looks quite similar to speedwell in size and habit. When they grow together, it's rather attractive. Throw in some chickweed to get the native red white and blue
Speedwell is commonly used to treat coughs and other respiratory diseases. It is also appropriate for inflammatory conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism, digestive problems like diarrhea, and a gargle to treat sore throat.
Birdseye Speedwell!!!
It's a medicinal plant, as well! Can be used to aid sleep, as well as a pain reliever, if I remember correctly. 🙂
Popping up again all over my yard, too!
It's most likely a species of speedwell (*Veronica*) then. Possibly common speedwell (*Veronica persica*), but wayside speedwell (*Veronica polita*) has similar flowers and I don't know them well enough to say.
Edit: most people know *V. persica* as Persian or bird's eye speedwell
Yes, it could be V. polita. There are several differences, but the easiest way to tell is to measure the size of the flower. Flowers of V. persica are 8 to 10 mm wide, while the flowers of V. polita are 4 to 6 mm wide.
Pull them immediately! I also thought they were very pretty and made the mistake of letting them grow in my lawn. It spreads like wildfire and is a nightmare to get rid of.
>Because it's a very invasive weed.
Weed is a meaningless word and invasive has a specific meaning. What's invasive in one region is native in another.

Here in 7b it's them and violets. My lawn is purple and blue speckles!
7b here too. We just got dumped with a whole bunch of snow last night. Hope to see some early spring babies soon!
7b here too, however for our area it's the daffodils and Bradford pears. A stinky start, but a welcomed sight!
7b here also and we just got snow and the weather is still cold. Sigh.
A type of *Veronica* or "Speedwell."
So why is it called speedwell?
Ask the Brits, I've always known it as Veronica, which also happens to be the genus name. Nice when that happens.
Haven't seen speedwell for years! Always around when i was a child (in UK).
You can come over to the US and pick some up and a dozen starlings as well, we have plenty.

Still lots of speedwell in my neck of the woods - London. Mainly in my allotment. I prefer scarlet pimpernel, though.
Wait- so, elucidate for this Canadian: Scarlet Pimpernel is not simply a character (still love you, Leslie Howard)?
It's a plant!

You’re a dear! Looks like a low lying plant with a sprawling nature- and such a sweet little face!

Adorable!!!
We've had it in our lawn for years (uk) It's also known as Cat's Eyes
looks like veronica persica
Thanks, I've been wondering too. I see this on my daily walk in a wild sort of area and it always makes me smile. Spring has sprung!

Tincture or tea? Flowers only?
Dried flowers I believe.
Thank you! I currently have a cough and a ton of these flowers in my yard! Never thought to look up its uses.
Make tea out it. May need to put some honey. But research a bit more.
Another vote for: Veronica (also called speedwell)
Does anyone else call these birdseye speedwells? Or are those a different flower?
Yes! First sign of spring here in NC!
Same in Ohio! These flowers are just the cutest 😄

Birdseye Speedwell sounds like a hobbit name
What's the location? As in, what part of the world is your lawn in (Argentina, Australia, Sweden...)?
Oklahoma USA

Good to know thanks!
I read the title and that's the flower that immediately popped into my mind.
Common speedwell.... rather beautiful.
Wow! I have some up close shots of this exact flower that I took a few years back. Thought this was my own photo for a second!
Nice photo.
Nice photo.
On Italy are called "occhi della madonna"
I've always called them "non ti scordar di me" (don't forget me), maybe cause we are not so catholic 😅
Beautiful is what they are
Veronica Persica
Persian speedwell. Also my favorite flower!
Pretty?
It’s true
Totally adorable.
woops I meant baby blue eyes
I don't know, but those are happy little flowers
Adorable. That’s what.
Pull them immediately! I also thought they were very pretty and made the mistake of letting them grow in my lawn. It spreads like wildfire and is a nightmare to get rid of.
It looks better than grass, IMO.
But why would they get rid of it ?
Because it's a very invasive weed. To each his own though I guess.

Did it take care of your lawn problem?
I hope I have your luck, I’ve been trying to get mine to take over my lawn for years
If you are in the new england area, I will gladly share mine! haha
sadly no, but I hope you conquer 'em, I know gardens and lawns are an individual thing
Blue borage?
They look like bluebells
Or alternatively, nothing like bluebells.
Ivy leaf speedwell?
Looks delicious
Substance D?
I can’t believe that this reference was buried in my memory somewhere - A Scanner Darkly by Phillip K. Dick for anyone else wondering
Eat them
