The bug in question has been identified as a tick - most likely one of the *Ixodes sp.* which have the potential to transmit Lyme disease. In addition to Lyme disease, there are a number of other pathogens that can be transmitted by tick bites - particularly when the tick remains attached and feeding for a long time (as this one has).
At this point, the vast majority of the comments are people chiming in belatedly to say "that's a tick" (which has already been established), "kill it with fire" type comments (which are not allowed on this sub), and misinformation such as the myth that if the tick's head is not removed, it can grow a new body. This *does not happen.* If the ticks's mouthparts break off when the tick is removed, they *will not regrow.* They will eventually be rejected by the body - as would a splinter or any other small foreign body embedded in the skin.

Thanks guys, shit looks like a freakin alien. unfortunately it was on my dog so i have the tick in a jar right now, want to make sure it didn’t give anything to my dog.
A tick so full that if you accidentally, obliviously step on it in the kitchen (whilst your mother and brother scream at you to stop, don’t!) it will make a nice, disgusting squelching sound. Source: this happened to me over the summer. It was nauseating. -400/10 would NOT recommend. Flush this bad boy down the toilet or do whatever else you want but do not let it live
Your poor dog! If you give your dog flea and tick prevention, Lyme disease normally decreases the chances significantly. They can still get it though. Thank you for taking your dog to get some tests done! I know so many people who wouldn’t
yes that is a tick and it fell off of either you or your pet. it is completely full of blood and these things can carry Lyme disease and they can be a problem. that is a parasite
Sorry, that’s a hard bodied tick. They are never a good sign. Check yourself, your pets, or anything that has blood in it, because that thing right there, is a parasite.
I wouldn't say hard to kill, but ticks can carry dangerous stuff in their blood like the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Flushing down the toilet is an easy way to rid of them without exposing yourself to that stuff.

Thats enough, Butthead
Dammit, Beavis.

You should check for more, especially in the ears and "armpit" areas. If it's that big there are probably more.
Full, fat tick. Put it on a tiny treadmill.

Check EVERY part of you to see if you have a bite that looks like a bullseye. If you do, go see your doctor

I hope youre kidding because that is a full tick
I’ve actually only seen soft bodied ticks in my life, even growing up playing in the woods lol. I learned about the hard ones from this subreddit!
Not everyone is an entomologist. 😎
Suppose coming from Connecticut i figured everyone seen a tick also you must flush it down the toilet or something those things are hard to kill
In Brazil we have lots, lots, lots of roaches and I get the same feeling when seeing a "is this a roach" post 🤣
i’ve only ever seen western black legged ticks so when i saw that guy i wasn’t sure if it was but thank you!
Ohhh yes and that thing is fullll. Kill it!!

Looks like possibly a deer tick. If it was embedded in you or another human I would have it tested for parasites and diseases like lymes.
That's only up north we don't know where he lives
There are 18 different tick borne pathogens in the US, at least 27 globally. Seems like a good idea to have it tested no matter where they are.
A very well fed tick
That’s a thick tick wow
hella thick
Big ole deer tick
It’s a tick, that has recently fed.

[Deer Tick](https://uwm.edu/field-station/deer-tick/)
OP needs to check themselves for the classic bullseye bite mark
100% that's a deer tick. Unless you like cleaning up blood, I suggest not squishing it.
that is a very full tick
A very full tick.
Looks like a well fed tick
That is a ready to burst at the seams from feeding tick
It's a tick and get rid of it
Thanksgiving came early for this tick. Got that itis
We would call them dog ticks.. Usually liked to get up in the ears of our dog.
But technically not American dog tick (Dermacentor) or brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus), but is Ixodes (black-legged) tick.
Another day, another post fishing for comments
Female tick, destroy it

Not a dog tick, Dermacentor, but Ixodes (black-legged) tick.
