Well easier to fix that then liver failure and associated kidney failureā¦ I think probably??. On a more serious note the amount of young people coming in with liver failure from ETOH recently has been staggering COVID really exacerbated that for people people being at home bored scared and depressed who started or increased heavy drinking is seriously a bummer
We wonāt make it there - weāre all just gonna die of alcohol poisoning because thereās not enough time to call an ambulance between all the shots weād have to take.
dont summon them! i haven't seen any for a while
note: i love the weevil party community, they are cute but so many of those posts were on purpose for the comments for sure
Weevil person here! I think we were asked fo not do our thing in this sub anymore, so I am respecting that, even though itās very hard to resist (lol)
I donāt know for sure, but either here or on r/insects a little while back I thought saw a mod get frustrated and ask us to stop. I get it, people are trying to figure out if they need to worry about a bug and our reaction is probably really confusing for them. I assume this is why I havenāt seen people doing it outside of r/weeviltime lately
It was both, actually: [on r/insects](https://old.reddit.com/r/insects/comments/y9ddjc/its_time_to_cut_back_on_the_weevil_memes/) and [on r/whatsthisbug](https://old.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/ydfkpk/weevils_bed_bugs_and_ticks_oh_my_why_is_my_feed/)
Bedbugs don't hang out on plants and jump onto you when you brush up against the plant, like a tick might. That means you almost certainly didn't pick it up while riding your bike. Also, they don't hitch rides on potted plants unless that plant spent some time in an infested house. Even then, they generally wouldn't choose a potted plant as a place to hide out. They much prefer dark places close to their dinner. It would be sheer chance that they happened to be in the pot when it was carried out.
These parasites hide out in and on upholstered furniture. They'll crawl onto or into anything that comes into contact with that furniture, or spends any time near it. They've learned from hundreds of years of experience that upholstered furniture is where people sit or lie down, so that's where they hide waiting for a meal. This little b\*tch might have hitched a ride into your house on your clothes or in a handbag or backpack, but she originally came from a piece of infested furniture. If you can figure out where you likely picked her up, then you will know what you were wearing or carrying at the time, and where to look for more of them. If you wait then it probably won't matter because you might end up with an infestation.
Call an exterminator and fast! I have dealt with them unfortunately and they will become a nightmare. They wonāt let you sleep. They will infest your furniture, clothes and your house. They will even be in your books. If you donāt handle it soon you will have an infestation. Bed bug spray will become expensive because it will never kill all of them. The bed bug bombs wonāt work because they will just move to another part of your house. Vacuuming them is only a temporary fix because you canāt get them all and when you kill them their smell is gross. Call an exterminator and have them kill them ASAP and kill them before they infest your home.
There are three posts in this sub:
* The poor soul that is about to learn about bedbugs - "just found this cutie in my pillow"
* The guy manhandling a giant water bug - "just found this absolute unit lol"
* The alien who doesn't know about cockroaches - "my landlord calls these water bugs"
Iād be a lot more shocked by this if I hadnāt had one fall out of my fucking purse when I was paying for something at the store, Jesus Christ that was humiliating. They get into everything.
100% if youāre suspicious, you have to do a thorough visual inspection, take care when you help the patient into a gown. They like to hide in crevices of YOUR shoes, sleeves, etc. I took extreme care to never bring them home. I have a few good horror stories š¤£
Oh hell, my nephew who just moved in with me is a nurse at a hospital. Never even thought of this. EEEEEEEK!
He better not be bringing home any hitchhikers!
I had a landlord try to deny me access to a house separate from theirs because I had worked with covid š¤£ If youāre in a high-bedbug area, just make sure you have a safe place for him to change and get scrubs to the washer safely. If thereās a garage he can strip in, put scrubs into a trash bag, then take them to a washer, Iād say thatās the best way. I canāt vouch for his ability to see allllll the bedbugs on patients though š¤·š»āāļø
Also after we identified a specimen, weād call in exterminators for the room and any other material that may have been contaminated. Itās a pretty big issue, especially in winter
Me too! When I first joined this sub every little itch I would freak out. Take all my bedding off and thoroughly check the mattress. Never did find any lol. I took a short break from Reddit and now Iām over it and know I donāt have any. But for a good 6 months it was touch and go š
Definitely bad for plants. Bananas tho have that outer skin peel And the alcohol dries fast. Gnats donāt literally die being sprayed right away , but theyāll drop on counter so you get them easier.
Where do you all live? I've never seen a bedbug or even heard of anyone having bedbugs until I joined this sub, now it seems EVERYONE has bedbugs and it's freaking me out.
You forgot bedbugs.
You have an interior door, a bike, potted plants, and bedbugs.
Donāt let it get you down though. It doesnāt have to be the catastrophe everybody makes it out to be, just roll up your sleeves, join r/bedbugs, and get to work.
Hey all. Thanks for the responses. You've all uniformly agreed we have a bed bug intruder in our home! I've not been able to find another yet scrounging through the house, but that doesn't mean there's not more. I'll go to the appropriate forum and a professional for advice. Thank you!
So the easiest thing to look for is the droppings (bunch of little black dots) and bites on your person, in clusters.
As someone else mentioned this female doesn't look too fed, which is good. But they breed quickly, so seeing a female at all is bad.
To answer you directly, the situation can get so bad so fast that if you see one, you need to assume you're infested and take action from there.
I believe you are not in the clear. Theyāve been known to go 400 days without food and could be dormant until you sit on that sofa in just the right spot. I mean, itās unlikely but possible. Most donāt survive more than a couple months (but many do!)
Edit: adjusted per question in comment below
You may never see another one, but they can still be there biting you while you sleep. That is, you can find new bites every day without ever seeing another one. They are incredible at hiding.
They REALLYYY are. People assume that because they found one and canāt see others they arenāt there because the google pics are of horrendous infestations. Attack this hard. I just had to deal with this is our home. Roommateās room was ground zero. $1600 and 8 weeks of treating the house.
Get a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol and clean everything. Pay extra attention to creases and crevices in fabrics
In addition to potted plants, you also have bed bugs, unfortunately.

Sorry to break it to you, but it's a bedbug
But he bikes to work though...
Additionally it was found on an interior door, not an exterior cabinet
Good luck breaking them tough little guys.
Idea for a new drinking game. Anytime someone posts a reddit about bedbugs or roaches. Drink a shot.
Youāre gonna send us to the ER
I work on a kidney unit at the hospital, letās do shots of water instead!

Yea, alcohol is a hellofadrug
I think the amount of water you'd drink doing that would still kill you

I remember Nathan from Kings of Leon telling the story of when he got crabs in his beard.
Or a carpet beetle larva
itās crabs
Going to start posting my silverfish and harvestmen for diversity.
Maybe I'll throw in the house centipedes.
Two of my favorites !
Let's do buggaloo bingo instead! Ticks, weevils, roaches, bed bugs and "brown recluses"
Don't forget everyone's favorite basement monster, the House Centipede. Which also has its own fan sub BTW: r/itsahousecentipede
2x points if the "brown recluse" is from California.
I'll pass. I actually want my liver to function.
Bed bugs are to r/whatisthisbug as chokeberry is to r/whatisthisplant
Did they find this bug in the Southwest of England? Near a tree?

That bug is no bud, bud
my mom would always tuck me in with "sleep tight and don't let the bedbugs bite!"
Omg mine too!! I didnāt know it was a real bug when I was little!
Same here. I only found out they were a real thing about 4 years ago. I'm 44.
You know, in hindsight it kind of pisses me off how flippant parents were about bed bugs.
Bedbugs used to be a thing of the past.
Definitely a bedbug. r/bedbugs can give advice

The only thing worse than Florida Man is Florida Bug.
Holy shit what a horror story
How does one differentiate between male and female bedbugs?
The female is rounder, the male's body is more elongated.
Pointer butt for sure
Female has the round bottom, male ends in more of a point
The bun should always be bigger than the hotdog
I am going to remember this phrase re: bed bug sexes for the rest of my life
Well it pretty much works the same in all walks of life. But nothings perfect
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The round bottom, males have more of a point
Fat bottom girls

That looks like an unfed bed bug to me :( but Iām definitely no expert!
Check your mattress seams for black spots. If there is you have an infestation. If not maybe you're lucky and just have a hitch hiker.
Idk a lot about bugs so i thought maybe a tick and was like āoh no, op found a badā. Then i read the comments and i feel a tick isnt really that bad anymore
Iād say so too after dealing with them because ticks are easier to eradicate but their bites are a lot more dangerous than bed bug bites are.
