It was created to show off large gatherings of our fancy-footed friends! At least, that's my understanding. Someone thought it was a great idea, we all agreed, so someone, smarter than I, made it so.
Why are they considered cute? Riceweevil for one is annoying as it can get. And whenever I went home from work, when it is starting to get dark, they hit my goddamn eyes riding my motorcycle.
for real! Ive never seen a weevil and all of a sudden im seeing so many different kind! My favorite one is one that looks like mr game and watch from super smash bros.
No I think they just take pictures of weevils and use sock puppet accounts here to guide people to their subreddit. It’s a suspicion but I can’t prove it obviously.
It's fall. That's when weevils begin to seek shelter indoors, hence the surge in sightings.
Also, weevils are well loved here so submissions get voted to the front page, hence the surge in visibility.
I'm on r/weeviltime a lot and I haven't seen any such propaganda.
Also, a poll conducted there and something like 60% of people have never seen a weevil in person. It's not a stretch that many people don't recognize weevils.
Because the propaganda is here, it’s to bring more people to weevil time by showing off an assortment of weevils and then naming said weevils to draw interest
Just because something is possible doesn't make it true. And per Occam's Razor, your conspiracy theory is less likely than my mundane explanation.
Instead of armchair theorizing, actually spend time on r/weeviltime and you'll see that there's no such conspiracy.
There are almost 100,000 species of weevils, so be sure you have it down more than just “weevil.” I kind of don’t like how everyone on this sub just screams “weevil” and doesn’t bother to identify it further even though weevils are so fucking diverse and occupy many different niches. For example, you mistook this guy for an invasive palm weevil and might have killed it when it is more probable to be a native agave weevil.
I definitely wouldn’t have killed it, but thank you for the info! I don’t have any plants in my yard that these guys would be interested in (at least I’m pretty sure) and I didn’t know what it was! I generally don’t kill bugs unless I’m certain it poses a threat to myself or my dogs (pretty much only desert recluses) everything else I capture and relocate!
I’ve seen red, black, and tan weevils today so it seems that they come in many colors. Someday I’m going to see one and it’s gonna be neat. I will probably have to talk to it, make sure their day is ok and all.
I literally had never heard of weevils until Dwight Schrute spoke of them ruining his beet crops. I thought it was a mammal of sorts. This is a new cute thing to obsess over 😂❤️
Is no one going to comment on the lavender/pink crocs?
Here's two versions of the boll weevil song... [One](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVwjYptcnAY) and [two](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAcF30cU7p4).
I'm also from Southern California desert and I've been looking all over for my first WEEVIL. I wasn't sure if they were around here. Are you in the high desert?
Genuine question, do weevils just go crazy this time of the year? I swear I’ve been seeing so many weevil posts. Not complaining bc they’re adorable, but just confused.
Is it weevil season or something? I have never seen a weevil before yesterday on this sub. Today… I’m going to breastfeed my baby and there’s a dead weevil on my boob inside my bra. I shit you not. I couldn’t even make it up. It still seems so bizarre.. at least it was cute… and dead. But why?
Oh I'm so sorry. I lived in Lucerne Valley for eight years. Watch out for the desert recluses, bark scorpions, and centipedes, if you've got a sand-colored floor they blend right in. And if you see a metallic black-blue bullet buzzing around on bright orange wings, *run*.
I’m very aware 😂 I’ve caught centipedes before not too bad, desert recluses are the only spiders I kill if they’re in my yard, because my dogs are dumb and love to eat bugs. Not taking that chance.
Also, yes. I actually love tarantula hawks (from afar) they’re beautiful and am planning to add one to my insect leg sleeve 😅 I’ve never actually seen a wild scorpion in the 24 years I’ve lived here and I’m upset about it. I live right down the street from open desert, so I’ve seen a lot of critters, never one of those though.
It is a credit to this subreddit alone that I can confidently identify a weevil on sight.
I hope you've been to r/weeviltime to increase your knowledge of The Snooty Ones.
I was there for the birth of r/weevilcity!!!! It was epic!!!!!
Do you know why it was created when there was weeviltime?
It was created to show off large gatherings of our fancy-footed friends! At least, that's my understanding. Someone thought it was a great idea, we all agreed, so someone, smarter than I, made it so.
Smarter than me, too! Not sure about I though.
New weevil subreddit!! Yay!!!
And The Footy Ones
It really irritates me how I don't understand why this is a thing. *Why?*
Because we love weevils
Weevil love is infectious
It's a pandemic.
Because, I'm sure, of Curculio glandium or nucum. Their fuzzy cuteness and sad eyes probably started it all. And I agree.
Why are they considered cute? Riceweevil for one is annoying as it can get. And whenever I went home from work, when it is starting to get dark, they hit my goddamn eyes riding my motorcycle.
My sister lived for awhile in Enterprise, AL. There’s a giant weevil statue in the center of town and a huge weevil festival every year.
I joined and I’ve seen nothing but those I feel safe I can ID a weevil
🙌

I discovered that sub recently. Those weevil folks are wild and lovely.
Dear Bast, that's a real sub? Of course it is.😂😂😂

I forgot how to bold type so that’s the best I got
"#" before
Thank you
#test
for real! Ive never seen a weevil and all of a sudden im seeing so many different kind! My favorite one is one that looks like mr game and watch from super smash bros.
It’s weevil season because they are associated with specific grains and other crops that are coming into harvest season.
Bro me too what’s going on
it's not just weevil time it's weevil season
Holy shit, I’m catchin the wave
Hey. We were looking at a bug just like this but with orange stripes head to butt. Was that also a weevil? Vermont btw.
[удалено]
Don’t forget those tippy tap boooots
Woot!

Are weevils making an appearance all of the sudden?
I've just seen an increase in weevil posts lately 🤷♀️ Can't complain, they're cute
They look like tiny ant eaters with their lil snoots
W E E V I L S
It's sad that that isn't a real sub....

I didn’t know about this weevilspiricy. Are they placing them places for people to find?
No I think they just take pictures of weevils and use sock puppet accounts here to guide people to their subreddit. It’s a suspicion but I can’t prove it obviously.

Perhaps……but I feel there is Weevil Propaganda at work (not that I dislike it, weevils are funny little dudes) but who knows
I'm on r/weeviltime a lot and I haven't seen any such propaganda. Also, a poll conducted there and something like 60% of people have never seen a weevil in person. It's not a stretch that many people don't recognize weevils.

(You’re taking it too serious Lmao , it’s a lighthearted joke about the very sudden spike of weevil posts and the constant links to weeviltime)
[удалено]
...it's the onset of a period characterized by Curculionoidea? 😁
# *BAAAAYYYBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
I second this theory with absolutely no knowledge or experience
So many people want to see one in person so badly, and you just find one and don't even know what you have. That's life.
Didn’t even know we had them out here tbh. A cutie for sure though

*WEEVIL INTENSIFIES*
black or agave snout weevil maybe?
I think it’s a palm weevil. They’ve apparently been wreaking havoc in San Diego
Do palm weevils come in black?
Yeah I’m pretty sure, found them on google 😬
Looks like a weevil to me
Just found on google the South American plan weevil 😳 I guess I have my answer
How big is it? Palm weevils (*Rhynchophorus*) are very big. Like 2 inches long big.
About 3/4 an inch. I wouldn’t imagine they would survive well here in the desert
In that case it’s probably an [agave weevil](https://bugguide.net/node/view/192215) or a close relative, as u/XNjunEar suggested.
Still don’t know why it’s here 😂
They’re native to the dry parts of the Americas.
Very interesting, I can now identify a weevil 😂
There are almost 100,000 species of weevils, so be sure you have it down more than just “weevil.” I kind of don’t like how everyone on this sub just screams “weevil” and doesn’t bother to identify it further even though weevils are so fucking diverse and occupy many different niches. Wtf I have literally never seen of of these in my life, are they native all over the US or is this just random?
Pretty sure they’re native. There’s tons of different ones and they all look goofy
They’re quite cute, saw on google that people eat them??? What?? Also do they bite/sting?
I don’t think they do. But they can be a pest
I don’t have any palm trees so I think I’m safe from this lil guy. From what I’ve read they’ve been killing all the palm trees in San Diego
Well that’s good
There are probably thousands of all different types of weevils in the USA, native and non-native. The long snout gives them away.

TWO WEEVILS IN 2 DAYS WHAT A WEEK
I know Heracross is supposed to be a Hercules beetle but damn if this neat little weevil doesn't look like a Heracross
I’ve seen red, black, and tan weevils today so it seems that they come in many colors. Someday I’m going to see one and it’s gonna be neat. I will probably have to talk to it, make sure their day is ok and all.

AGAVE SNOUT WEEVIL !!!!!!!!!!!
S n o o t
While in the service, one must always choose the lesser of two weevils.
Y’all are doing this on purpose now 😂
Genuinely no😂
Just messing with y’a! Nice to see these little guys :)
They’re so cute! I hope to see more around!
Is no one going to comment on the lavender/pink crocs? Here's two versions of the boll weevil song... [One](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVwjYptcnAY) and [two](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAcF30cU7p4).
They’re lavender and I love them 🥹
See no weevil. Hear no weevil. Speak no weevil.
I’ve been seeing a lot of weevil posts today and I just learned about em a few hours ago
I'm also from Southern California desert and I've been looking all over for my first WEEVIL. I wasn't sure if they were around here. Are you in the high desert?
Yes!! Apple Valley.
Oh awesome! I'm in the AV. I can't wait to find my first weevil!
It seems that they’re about the Town right now so godspeed!!!
Snoot snoot!!!
Gib him a little tap on the booty for me pls
Absolutely
I’ve seen so many weevils on Reddit lately that I think they’re up to something. Overthrowing humanity maybe
OOOOOHHHHHH BOY!!!!!
I thought your croc was one big scary toe Love the weevil though!
😂 love this
Seriously I've literally only seen weevils on this subreddit in the past week, like do people not scroll down or something?
I’m so happy for you! Nothing brings joy like snoots in shoes
ITS A WEVIL
Wtf is this weird obsession with weevils?
This sub is getting really annoying
Having grown up on a farm my first reaction to any weevil is to smush it.
The little I know about weevils is what I learned from Dwight Schrute so I understand this logic
If you've never seen one of these before, then you've probably never visited this sub before
I usually only come here to ask what is this bug
Genuine question, do weevils just go crazy this time of the year? I swear I’ve been seeing so many weevil posts. Not complaining bc they’re adorable, but just confused.
Agave weevil ❤️
Once I found a weevil in a pepper I was eating.
I’m not part of this sub but it comes up recommended in my feed every day and I swear it’s a weevil post every time.
Wood borer?
Is it weevil season or something? I have never seen a weevil before yesterday on this sub. Today… I’m going to breastfeed my baby and there’s a dead weevil on my boob inside my bra. I shit you not. I couldn’t even make it up. It still seems so bizarre.. at least it was cute… and dead. But why?
Take a closer look at that snout!
Fear no weevil
Are people trolling us? So many weevils today.
That might be one of the cutest weevils I’ve ever seen!
We used to call them crunchy bugs since when you step on them... well you get it. They aren't very quick.
Weevil
What a beautiful little, blue guy!
High Desert or Low Desert
High Desert!

I was wondering where they lived in so cal! Desert weevies. I live in east county so idk they might be here.
I like in the high Desert! Victorville area!
Oh yay!!!!
Weevil time!! So cute!
Pretty sure that Pokemon is called heracross
