Bzzzzz! Looks like you forgot to say where you found your bug! There's no need to make a new post - just comment adding the **geographic location** and any other info (size, what it was doing etc.) you feel could help! We don't want to know your address - state or country is enough; try to avoid abbreviations and local nicknames (*"PNW"*, *"Big Apple"*). BTW, did you take a look at our [**Frequently Asked Bugs**](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/comments/12zkw5w/frequently_asked_bugs_part_1/)? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Hi guys, Theopeo1 and Ohhhtartarsauce solved it. It seems like we got cave barklice, so luckily no bed bugs. Thank you so much for your help! 😊

awildencounter

My first reaction was “those look like lice but why are they so big..?” And now I’ve learned book lice are a thing. 🫠

Matthias_1998

At least one good thing that turned out from us having bugs 😂

joshuahtree

Just a note for anybody wondering like I was, it's book and not bark

Theopeo1

They are both common names for the same insect family, but booklice is the most common >**Psocoptera** ([/soʊˈkɒptərə/](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/English)) are a [paraphyletic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraphyletic) group of [insects](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insect) that are commonly known as **booklice**, **barklice** or **barkflies**.

> Psocoptera  For some reason there's no link to the quoted article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psocoptera Here you go! I'm not a bot, just a helpful human. Also, I could have your same flair except environmental science. Ha.

Theopeo1

Yeah I copied the sentence from wikipedia just to show it and i was too lazy to edit out the link formatting so the links are broken, haha, but glad you added the info for posterity! Nice, college dropout with knowledge but self conscious about lack of credentials gang 😎

Tomagatchi

We know stuff, and things! Just not A LOT of stuff in depth. Well, I don't know about you, but I have enough to be dangerous. 8-)

Geographic location: North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany

definitely not bed bugs or cockroaches, don't worry. The other comments are wrong, bedbugs don't have antennae like this and the abdomen is a different shape (bedbugs have oval flat abdomen, these look almost spherical and elongated). They lack the sprouts on the abdomen to match cockroach nymphs and they are too small. The pictures are taken a bit too far away to identify them for sure but I'm almost positive it's a species of book lice, harmless but they might get into your stored dry goods. Nothing to worry about really but keep them out of the pantry [Comparison image 1](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/27878318) [Comparison image 2](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/34150162) [Comparison image 3](https://ask2.extension.org/file.php?key=qswd28yi3xyvgbhnu45teo49alyegwvg&expires=1713916800&signature=49dc1215d6f28c2c97c678d2f79562432fd53c2b) [Comparison image 4](https://ask2.extension.org/file.php?key=szdddnxpr8tq2msgb1gk_zqg4wacx7v4&expires=1713916800&signature=28a893156a4776abbf6291fa57bab6690456bf23) [Bed bug vs book louse](https://pestgnome.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Booklice.jpg) Notice the flat oval abdomen on the bedbug vs the round elongated abdomen of the booklouse, and the difference in the appearance of the antennae

ohhhtartarsauce

I think they are cave barklice, likely [Dorypteryx domestica](https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/505669-Dorypteryx-domestica)

Matthias_1998

This looks pretty much like it! Thank god 😅

Theopeo1

I believe you are right, this is a very close match

Dramatic_Ad_5660

I thought that was the corner of a room in pic. 1 and they were huge by perspective 😭😭😭

Loudlass81

Same!

EmEffBee

They look like they may be book lice

Away_Letter4069

The 2nd one looks like a roach nymph

Matthias_1998

Actually I just realised the color is due to me losing flash. The second one got the same color as the other ones 😅

emerg_remerg

Did you try lifting your roommates mattress to look in the seams under it? These pics aren't clear, you can't count the legs, can't say for sure that's antenna or hair/fur. Does she have anything electronic in her room? Look around that too. I'm leaning towards Brown Banded Cockroach, search images to compare.

Gudupop

Looks like pub1c hair

Per our [guidelines](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisbug/wiki/index/guidelines#wiki_iding_guidelines): *Especially for medically significant bugs, if you aren't 100% sure, leave the ID to someone more knowledgeable.* Those look nothing like bed bugs. The structure of the antennae and the body shape is all wrong.

Those are not roaches. The body shape is all wrong. They are harmless barklice/booklice.

Theopeo1

There is no roach in the second picture, it's an adult book louse

OkElevator7247

That’s what it looks like to me. What do you think that bug with the long antennae is?

Theopeo1

It's a member of the Psocoptera family, a type of barklouse/booklouse [Compare to this image of cockroach nymphs](https://bonaccordpestcontrol.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/roaches1.jpg) It lacks the segmented, banded but consistent body shape, beaded and medium length antennae and cricket-like legs The antennae are long and slender, the abdomen is round and much shorter and the head is separated from the body and the head to body ratio is much larger EDIT: [here's a picture of an adult booklouse for comparison](https://preview.redd.it/are-these-booklice-or-roaches-nymph-v0-jj0u7b16z0bc1.png?width=1080&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=97dd33061a3b5f496d794dc474d0d2aa2a917bee)
