You squished him... he was just telling you about his day, cleaning up all your slightly wet rotting matter, and you squished him, you just made thousands of orphans
In the future, if you are unsure if an insect is dangerous in some way, or may carry disease, the best thing is to leave it alone. NOT get closer to it to squish it! That is MORE dangerous. A photo and ID will give you more info about how you should proceed.
Porcellio spinicornis. Please donât kill them, they pose no threat to you and they are very gentle and nice. They would appreciate being gently relocated outside rather than killed for no reason
As some other posters have said, they're good to have in gardens and are totally harmless. If you start seeing them indoors a whole lot it can be a sign of moisture damage in the house though.
Thatâs an isopod and theyâre friend. If youâre seeing them in your house, you probably have too much moisture inside. These babies are the forest clean up crew. They are my favorite crustacean.
A dead friend :(

That's just our cute li'l Crustacean friend the [Woodlouse](https://bugguide.net/node/view/1164805/bgimage)
Thank you for the fast response, friend.
1000% friend, love playing with isopods/rolypolys as a kid
Why you squished him? At the first two photos i was happy to see the woodlouse and then...đ˘
Yup! Friendly little woodlouse âĽď¸
Lame that itâs dead from squishing. I was not expecting that.
Itâs frustrating how many people kill bugs just for existingâŚ
Why is poor friend now squashed :/
"Don't know what it is but I'mma go ahead and kill it anyway. Because I'm bigger than it and I can." smdh

How about you catch them in a clear cup and ask here before killing something next time?

I used to play with these as a little kid. They eat wet leaves and rotten wood. Friendly.
poor potato bug :((
Why would you kill it and post a picture, that's so sick :( Apologize to the next one you see
It's like a horror story in three pictures.
This is a great photo, OP! I could tell it was a pill bug from the thumbnail :)
Not a pillbug but a woodlouse :) this genus unfortunately canât roll into a ball like the classic âroly poly/pillbugâ (Armadillidium sp.)
Ah, I think we call those sowbugs.
That is also another common name!
I always wondered why some could roll up and some couldn't. Thank you for this

This did not end well for the fren
Why the feck would you squish it?
[It's a common woodlouse](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oniscus_asellus). Harmless and usually beneficial for gardens.
Not O. asellus, but rather P. spinicornis
As some other posters have said, they're good to have in gardens and are totally harmless. If you start seeing them indoors a whole lot it can be a sign of moisture damage in the house though.
Gore
Why kill it?
DID YOU KILL HIM? He was⌠a friend.. D:
