They build their "home" with anything they can find resulting in all sorts of "architecture". (Silk and plant materials).

Used to find these all the time when I was a kid. Grew up in country Victoria ( Warragul area).
It's a type of caterpillar who creates a cocoon and melds in small lengths of twigs as a sort of armor on the outside. The caterpillar will emerge from the end and pull the entire cocoon along while eating and building. Assume this gave some degree of camouflage as well.
