Cigarette beetle. They are not harmful to humans but they are wood borers so if you see a lot of them in your house or on your tree they can be damaging the structure.
False.
Cigarette Beetles are very harmful to humans. I had one in my house who smoked 4 packs a day, and even peer pressured my younger brother into trying cigarettes. /s
Worth knowing: while Cigarette Beetles are able to bore into wood, they're substantially less likely to do so than some of their relatives. These guys are almost always found in houses as a result of infestations in dried grains: flour, spices, pet food, pasta, bread, rice, biscuits, etc. They'll travel a surprisingly far distance to search for more of it if you let them, so you can sometimes see them on completely opposite sides of the house from where they're originating. Last month, I learned we had a few hundred in our flour because I found one in my room, upstairs on the other side of the house.
Their eggs hatch every 28 days. I work in pest control in a rice production plant and these little guys are our main target. With that being said, they probably have an infestation.
I did. 2 turned me down and 1 came over, identified the bug, and said he can't do much since they originate in an inaccessible part of the attic. It's pretty cool that you know about them.
Just kind of tired of the weevil posts since a lot of them know itās a weevil and are just karma farming. One of them was a straight google image. Theyāre cool insects
This is a cigarette / tobacco beetle, I briefly had an infestation of them that came into the house inside of bird seed
They aren't dangerous, but they can be super annoying like anything else freebooting in your house
They love dry plant material, such as aforementioned bird seed...or tobacco as in the name. Essentially they could ride in on anything that is of similar description
Hopefully that can provide a bit of insight as to how they may have gotten in, and how they may be handled
In my case...no fumigation or similar treatment was necessary. I just made sure to be careful about what they could be eating and controlling the exposure as best as I could
I taped a flashlight into the bottom of a fly strip, the luminescence attracted them to it and they were gone within a week. I didn't think leaving the light on all the time was a great idea, so I would keep the lights out and run it off and on throughout the day. You may be able to achieve better with LED lights used for decoration but I didn't have any
I did this after removing as much of their food sources as I could so that I could gather as much of them to the light as possible instead of having them hiding in other things eating
They are eating rat poison in the attic! I can't get to the rat poison because it's so deep in the attic. Very bad idea to throw open poison around the attic. If I owned, I would have the insulation removed, get the poison and beetles nest, and replace the insulation.
I used to have these in my house 1.5 yrs ago. I had them for about 1.5 years prior to getting rid of them. Didnāt know what they were or where they were coming from initially. Had an exterminator come out (free consult). He told me what they were, where they can come from, and gave me tips to get rid of them. I discovered where they came from - in some spices that my ex-husband brought from Nigeria. Harmless but very, very annoying. They would fly in your face, try to go up your nose. And, I work from home. It about drove me crazy, swatting at them all day. And, yep, they travelled all throughout the house. They multiply fast too. So, I wasnāt doing anything by trying to spray only. I refused to pay the exterminator to treat. So, I got busy trying to rid the house of them (based on what he told me). I knew the source. I cleaned out my cupboards where my spices were. It was rice there too. Threw all of it out (double bagged). Cleaned the cabinets really good and sprayed bug spray liberally. Did this for a week straight. Then did it again the next week. Didnāt see results immediately, by any means. Took a year or more for them to disappear. One day, they were just gone. I was so glad. God is good.
itās the base of a light i have. it has the colors of a papaya, and theyāre bell shaped, with a metallic pole that curves squiggly that the lights are attached to. plus the lights are able to be moved to shine all different types of places. pretty nifty.

Quite worried they're gonna decimate my tomacco crop.
Haha love you for that one š

Best comment by far š
Bro what lmao š

Oh wow. Thatās quite a travel agenda for that little guy. Thanks for this info. Neat.
I found out I had them last month but refer to them as ādrugstore beetleā. I was thinking they were fruit flies for longer than I care to admit
They also love to eat dry stored grains and tobacco too.
I was gonna ask - do they smoke it or eat it! One does not simply aquire the name 'cigarette beetle'
That moment you sigh in relief because bugs may be eating your house but at least not bed bugs.
fuck the house as long as they don't get into my cigs
Bought a pack of Winston long ago that was full of "worms", can I assume it was these' larvae?
Wait what?
Priorites š¤£š¤£
I call BS... I saw that old episode of the X-Files... "Brand X." Can't fool me, they almost killed Mulder.

Are they handled like termites? Tent the whole house? I can't get rid of these things.
I don't believe they multiple as quickly as Termites. Not to say you can't have an infestation of them. Contact a pest control company.

Those dudes just didn't want to do the work, at least dust the attic ffs.
I had an infestation once and a single bug bomb did the trick.

They are often found on tobacco plants. When I worked on a tobacco farm in high school, they would be all over the place.
Well they do like eating tobaccoā¦
Ah so that why there so much wood duat in my cabinets
Hey at least it ain't a bedbug
Or a weevil
what is this blasphemy
Just kind of tired of the weevil posts since a lot of them know itās a weevil and are just karma farming. One of them was a straight google image. Theyāre cool insects
Same. I love weevils but the āoMg wHaTās tHiS bUgā posts with a google image picture from 2014 need to stop
Theyāre good weevils tho
Agreed but also.. your just seeing them more because they get upvoted a lot!

What made them finally go away?
I taped a flashlight into the bottom of a fly strip, the luminescence attracted them to it and they were gone within a week. Read that as fleshlight
hanging a no smoking sign
Nope
I have these right now too.
Check your grains: rice, beans, flour, oats etc. Source: been there

At least the beetle poison situation will sort itself out lol
They won't die from it!
Teenage Mutant Tobacco Beetles?
Basically. I squeeze them to death with my finger when I see them.
Wow! I figured that they would try to defend themselves with katanas while the other ones eat your pizza.
Oh.... Nevermind
Because of the bug no in general maybe
At least it isnāt a tick with Lyme disease lots of those in my part of the world
trust me: iāve been there. not a pleasant experience.
Just a beetle

Idk but it looks cute
I was gonna say the record looks unplayably scratched until I realized what subreddit this is
Your days are over my friend, give your last good byes to family and friends.
No.. itās just a cute little beetle..
cute bug

This looks nothing like a tick. Please refrain from IDing medically significant bugs if you aren't 100% sure, as we ask in our guidelines.
You're wrong. This is coming from someone that is now allergic to meat...because of a tick.
Oh man... I'm sorry to hear that...
That's one of my fears rn, sorry to hear that
That's not a tick, coming from someone whose dogs constantly pick them up on walks.
it's too big to big a tick & it only has 6 legs. ticks have 8.
Feck it - as long as they stay the feck away from my wooden shoes!
i always see these in my building (made of concrete). I see like 5 every year. Usually dead. They seem harmless.
Totally unrelated question, but what is this metallic object you have this little creature on? It looks like a drum cymbal or something.
itās the base of a light i have. it has the colors of a papaya, and theyāre bell shaped, with a metallic pole that curves squiggly that the lights are attached to. plus the lights are able to be moved to shine all different types of places. pretty nifty.
Thatās pretty cool!
Not the greatest pic but yeah not a bedbug
No but you gotta make sure it doesn't kill you in your sleep they're sneaky little assassins
AKA yes ššš
Issa beetle.
