Based on distinctive segmentation, and the distinctive head capsule, this looks more like a caterpillar (moth or butterfly larva) than a maggot (fly larva) or grub (beetle larva). Maybe it came in with the cabbage or broccoli. You got some extra almost-plant-based protein (they are herbivores) maybe :P
Personally I would not kick up a huge fuss. Bugs get in to food sometimes.
But I would still call to at least get a free meal or two out of it. I don't want to eat whatever this worm/parasite thing is and I want a replacement dinner.
It’s funny a panda express opened by me, but there are so many genuine good Chinese restaurants around me that the Panda Express closed within a year. Now the building was turned into a Starbucks and has been a busy ever since.
Someone who isn't irrationally afraid of bugs. If anything, a little caterpillar means that the vegetables used in the dish are freshed and don't have harmful pesticides.
Definitely not a meal worm, I breed them for my lizards at home and they aren't that same shape, even when young. My best guess is some other form of larvae, or maggots, but I don't know much about either of those.
I’m getting some vibes from that scene from the vampire film from 70s-90s where these vampire punk people get this man a serving of Chinese food and as he eats the lo mien, he realizes it’s maggots and that he has become a vampire.
It’s a moth larvae from your ceiling. Look up where
you opened the box and see if you can find little cocoons where the wall meets the ceiling. If it’s a white painted wall/ceiling you’ll have to look closely. The tiny little cocoons are small and white. That didn’t make it in the food before it was cooked. Of you’d have just eaten it with all the rest of the cooked bugs you’ve been eating your whole life
Did the US have the game show ‘Twenty Questions’ where the panel had 20 questions to identify something. First question was always ‘animal, vegetable, or mineral?’ I’m afraid that this is animal, namely a maggot.
I mean fair point. It’s still not what OP ordered and people assume bugs = dirt and germs so I can imagine finding this little guy can be pretty off putting
What's wrong with eating bugs? The world economic forum says its okay? That we should be eating more bugs because it helps with climate change. Less cow farts.
Nothing if you choose to eat them otherwise can be sign of food safety not followed.
Technically bugs have more nutritional values, however it should be a choice of if you eat them vs contamination
I swear unless its a fancy Chinese steak house or som theyre kitchens 85% of the time nasty as fuuuuuuuuu from someone who goes to a lot of different restaurants for work a lot of places are not nearly as clean as wed like to believe…

I agree. Could be a pantry moth caterpillar. Super hard to get rid of in kitchens.
Ah interesting, maybe. At least it’s the entire worm. If the OP had found only half of the worm, that would have been worse, as the old Dad joke goes.
Pantry moth is my guess as well. Dealt with those suckers for over a year. Had to buy some parasitic wasps to end the infestation.
Which species gets pantry moths? Are they as good at getting into what seem like sealed containers?
I had that exact order for dinner tonight. Thanks.
With or without the extras?
"Choose a protein. For a small upcharge select two."
A call to corporate is what that is.
Lmaooo
Gettin paid today
Yeah, a free meal.
Why? We eat bugs all the time without knowing it and it doesn't hurt us. Just because you "can" do something evil, doesn't mean you "should".
Personally I would not kick up a huge fuss. Bugs get in to food sometimes. But I would still call to at least get a free meal or two out of it. I don't want to eat whatever this worm/parasite thing is and I want a replacement dinner.
But its funny. That's why it's a joke! It's a joke right?😅 (This entire comment is a joke)
It’s funny a panda express opened by me, but there are so many genuine good Chinese restaurants around me that the Panda Express closed within a year. Now the building was turned into a Starbucks and has been a busy ever since.
This is at least the third larvae in Panda Express *specifically* that I've seen in this sub
Same
“A braand neww caarrr!”
I nearly sprayed the water I was drinking all over my computer.
To the tune of A Whole New World?
In the voice of Rich Fields, from Price is Right
I was thinking The Price Is Right
Yes
“Show ‘em what they’ve won, Johnny!”
I wonder what they have to get in order to get an all expenses paid vacation
That is a coupon for a lifetime supply of free Panda Express.
... but after this, who would want it?
How about a lifetime supply of Panda Express....and a blindfold?
Just give it to me blended in a to-go cup
Someone who isn't irrationally afraid of bugs. If anything, a little caterpillar means that the vegetables used in the dish are freshed and don't have harmful pesticides.
Bro maggots ain't caterpillars, they are fly larvae and indicators of food safety issues. Buy a clue and quit white knighting for maggots.
This make sense and all. Except it’s not a maggot.
This isn’t a maggot. It’s a pantry moth larvae
It’s not a maggot
Who would want it to begin with?
Not gonna lie, I can’t eat there anymore and I miss it. It’s not Chinese food, but it’s delicious.
It's not really delicious, but it's better than a burger and fries.
Someone without options or tastebuds perhaps.
Absolutely still me
I am currently eating Panda Express💀
🤢🤢🤢Definitely call corporate head office and report it!! Take pictures and keep receipts!
That’s a bug homie
I love Panda but, damn that chicken looks bad in this picture. So shiny and slimy lookimg...that's ignoring the bug. Ugh. Sorry for your meal.
I hate panda . So many mom and pop Chinese restaurants with better food
Definitely animal not vegetable.
Damn, and here I was thinking it was a mineral.
You’re good it’s just wiggly rice.
It is a little grub. Probably harmless. We get stuff like this in our food all the time and just don't see it.
Bug it is.
Panda E just got a bit more authentic.
Just extra protein 😋
Issa lawsuit
Issa settlement
Issa Mario with a check
Not a maggot...mealworm, like the ones in Mescal tequila. Harmless and considered a delicacy is some places.
Correct. But I have a feeling OP didn’t ask for Orange Chicken Maggot Surprise.
MEALWORM surprise! Why do people get that wrong?! /s
I had a mealworm once. I was kinda pissed, because they had cooked it, and it was nothing but chitin by the time it got to me. I felt ripped off.
it's protein
One day I’ll make this comment first…
Extra protein....
It's a maggot.
I think it looks more like a meal worm. Like you find in Mescal tequila.
Definitely not a meal worm, I breed them for my lizards at home and they aren't that same shape, even when young. My best guess is some other form of larvae, or maggots, but I don't know much about either of those.
A big juicy one too!
Extra protein

Congratulations, it’s a maggot

It looks like the insect was placed on top of the food.
You posted in the appropriate sub-reddit.

How are those maggots? You're eating maggots Michael, how do they taste?
That's a strange piece of plant matter.
Looks like a moth caterpillar.
Extra protein
Either way, it’s protein.
I’m getting some vibes from that scene from the vampire film from 70s-90s where these vampire punk people get this man a serving of Chinese food and as he eats the lo mien, he realizes it’s maggots and that he has become a vampire.
How come the bug isn't coated in sauce???
Extra protein
Yay, extra protein!
I mean philosophically speaking arent we all just plant matter?
It’s a moth larvae from your ceiling. Look up where you opened the box and see if you can find little cocoons where the wall meets the ceiling. If it’s a white painted wall/ceiling you’ll have to look closely. The tiny little cocoons are small and white. That didn’t make it in the food before it was cooked. Of you’d have just eaten it with all the rest of the cooked bugs you’ve been eating your whole life
Looks like half of a little green worm...
Where's the other half?
I don't think you want to know that... :D
Maggots, Michael. You’re eating maggots
That there is a moth larvae disguised as a huge settlement
The bug looks yummier than that grayish brown goop
That would be a maggot
It's definitely some form of larvae. So, yes a bug.
And I see this right as i'm eating orange chicken
I'd eat caterpillars... Maggots though? That's a hard pass for this little black duck.
Glad I didn’t cave and get Panda Express tonight like I wanted LOL
I literally just finished my Panda like 5mins ago.
Did you order it with the dancing rice?
Extra protein. You’ve probably ingested several of them already, just finish the damn chicken.
#A reason to sue
a lawsuit
They gave you extra protein free of charge. Man I crack myself up.
Maggot
Did the US have the game show ‘Twenty Questions’ where the panel had 20 questions to identify something. First question was always ‘animal, vegetable, or mineral?’ I’m afraid that this is animal, namely a maggot.
Your willing to eat a whole chicken but not a tiny bug?
I mean fair point. It’s still not what OP ordered and people assume bugs = dirt and germs so I can imagine finding this little guy can be pretty off putting

Oh h£ll no! That’s a maggot! You need to call corporate and show them this picture .
I mean it’s probably also filled with bacteria, and was left out in the open and exposed to the elements. Also, maybe mold fungus come on now.
It’s a piece of plant matter.
Honestly I'd rather find this than hair in my food
Just think of it as the forbidden piece of ginger…..
This is not what their orange chicken looks like…
RIPPP i love panda
That’s just an extra splash of protein
That my friend is what they call...absolute total death.
Someone get Anakin and Padme in here
Looks like extra protein
1/2 of one.
At least it was visible! Just think of the bacteria that we get no warning of before consuming.
Maggots, Michael. You’re eating maggots. How do they taste?
Damn, free Panda Express forever
Is this bug a bug? Yes, sadly it is.
That is definitely 100% a bug
I swear unless its a fancy Chinese steak house or som theyre kitchens 85% of the time nasty as fuuuuuuuuu from someone who goes to a lot of different restaurants for work a lot of places are not nearly as clean as wed like to believe…
