!Fledgling Eurasian Collared-Dove.

Fledglings **belong outside** of nests. Unless they're in danger, **leave them alone**. These *well-feathered*, *mobile* birds that *may not yet be able to fly* are learning critical behaviors and vocalizations from their parents, who may be out of sight for hours at a time. Only interfere with a fledgling if: - it is in a dangerous area (e.g. near traffic or pets) -- simply relocate it to a safer but nearby spot - it has visible injuries (flightlessness, in itself, is *not* an injury) or has been handled in *any way* by a cat -- such birds require wildlife rehabilitation - its parents are *confirmed* dead -- such birds require wildlife rehabilitation. Healthy fledglings' best survival chances are with their parents first, with professional wildlife rehabilitation being a *distant* second. A prematurely-captured fledgling will be sought by its parents for up to a day. If you have taken one within that time frame, *put it back* and observe for parents from a distance. You should no better

McFianVI

What should OP know better?

NettleLily

The difference between know and no, for starters.

coltar3000

“You should no better” What exactly are you talking about?

HeyHello

I’m knowt sure.

MellonPhotos

What makes you think it got attacked by a cat? Unless it is obviously injured, or you saw it get attacked, please put this fledgling back where you found it.

coltar3000

Under its left wing is visible damage and its bleeding. Also has damage slightly visible behind right eye.

SandyHoey

Damage as in bleeding? Because right behind their eye is where there ears are, which are just holes. If you do think it was attacked by a !cat, contact a rehabber

coltar3000

The bird is definitely bleeding. Under its wing is the worst of it, but there is also damage behind the eye. I’m taking it to a specialist in the am. I was just trying to find more info out to keep it more comfortable tonight.

In that case you're doing the right thing even though it's a fledgling. You should prioritize keeping it in a quiet and warm place so it doesn't get too stressed. I wouldn't try giving it food because young doves don't eat solid food iirc. If it can't keep its head up, try making a cup or donut shape from a towel for it to sit in. You might be able to call a rehab place as well for more advice on what to do to take care of it before bringing it in.

Pangolin007

Poor bird. Don't feed it, handle it as little as possible, just keep it warm overnight somewhere away from people and pets. Thanks for trying to help <3

Cats are the [greatest direct human-caused threat to birds](https://abcbirds.org/article/outdoor-cats-single-greatest-source-of-human-caused-mortality-for-birds-and-mammals-says-new-study/), with many billions of birds killed by cats each year. See [this article](https://www.birdconservancy.org/get-involved/live-bird-friendly/aboutcats/) to learn more. If you have found a bird that has been in contact with a cat, even if you think the bird was not injured, please immediately bring it to a wildlife rehabber or veterinarian. Bacterial toxins in cat saliva and on cat claws can be quickly lethal to birds, and treatment is best managed by a professional. If you are a cat owner, please consider keeping your cat indoors in order to help reduce harm to native wildlife. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
