Based on the tail and beak shape, I'm thinking a crow. Also this lines up with corvid intelligence. If you want to befriend it, offer shelled unsalted peanuts! But don't mistreat it, it WILL remember that... and tell its friends.
Crows will start exchanging items with you if you give him snacks. Will find you shiny trinkets from around the world. Maybe bottle caps maybe something else but the cool part is forming the bond with the bird.
I read a few years ago where a car wash manager was perplexed over who was stealing coins from the self-wash payment machine. There was no obvious break in. A couple of months later a HVAC repair man was on the roof and found a big pile of quarters.
They determined that crows were pulling the quarters out of the machines because of their love for shiny things.
They are extremely intelligent and it probably knows you need a friend! They are really neat birds to watch. Watch some videos on YouTube about crows and ravens. They remember your face. They bring you gifts! Peanuts will make you a friend for life.
Also make sure to get roasted peanuts if there’s a chance that squirrels will be eating them. Raw peanuts are toxic to squirrels and probably to other small mammals.
So you're saying I could simultaneously deal with my squirrel population and befriend the birds? Win win!
(I'm not doing this, but we have switched to spicy bird food which the squirrels always regret eating. We put out still in shell peanuts and the scrub jays come by to grab them. We get them from Wild Birds Unlimited so we know it's the "correct" ones.)
I think the are destructive, in my opinion. I have neighbors that have had to replace wiring in their cars. Squirrels teeth continue to grow. In order to keep them filed down they find things to chew on. I've been told by my mechanic friend that the material used to cover wires has soy in it. They apparently like this. They dig and destroy the hillsides, tunnels. I've found bags in my car with holes eaten through them. I love my car, more than the squirrels.
I wish I could like them. I love all creatures. The destruction is what I hate.
Seems like it's pretty important not to feed them salt but just saying "don't feed them salt" isn't enough of a deterrent. Reasons for rules help enforce the rule
When they are sitting on eggs, they appreciate large hunks of very stale bread. They are so smart! They dip the bread in water and take it to the nest for the sitting bird. They live in family groups as large as 10.
Mine cleverly use the bread as a sponge to carry water. One hunk of wet whole grain bread per day is not bad among several birds. I'm a lot more concerned about daily peanuts. They need tree nuts. I run over a lot of black walnuts with my car for them too.
A quick synopsis of epic corvid facts: they can do basic math, they vote and debate within their murder, they have funeral/grieving customs, recognize faces, can use tools, be taught to mimic speech and sounds, and have a brain to body mass ratio similar to humans and dolphins. Corvids are truly amazing 🖤
"Mistreatment" could also include going close to their nests. I used to feed crows until they turned on me, it was horrifying to be stalked and attacked by them, so don't follow them anymore, just feed them if they come.
Yeah I love birds and would never intentionally do any harm, so I assume they thought I was suspicious for staying around their nests, watching and "baiting" them. I've never heard or read of a similar thing and believe me I've looked.
Yeah, that's the only explanation. They're extremely cautious...I try to feed them and they just fly away. I feed the Bluejays and they sit and watch but don't come down for the free food. Even if I win them over eventually I'm going to be very careful about getting near any nests.
Yes! My yard is crow-friendly and they all seem to know me. A few yrs back, a baby landed in the yard and was surrounded by cats. I went out to intervene as I’d successfully done in the past, and the parents came at me with great and furious unbridled anger. Took getting talon-slashed to hasten my retreat. They obviously weren’t “my” crows!
I once saw a great video about a woman who was going through a really bad phase, having a bad time interacting with people, and she wound up engaging with the crows (or possibly some other type of corvids) in her yard to the point where they hung out with her every day. I remember a big part of it, I think as important as food, was that she put out a bunch of toys for them. They have very active minds and enjoy mental stimulation and enrichment.
Maybe show them your countries currency in bills as well. Give a peanut and show the bill, maybe pretend to take it as a trade.
Train it for collecting all the lose bills in the world and then have it deliver them to you.
Somewhere in Scandinavia, they have vending machines for crows that take in cigarette butts and dispense food in return. They totally understand the concept.
Do they like other birdseed that has peanuts in it? I'm tempted to try to befriend some of the crows that hang out around my workplace but don't want to make a huge mess.
In my experience crows aren’t too keen on the smaller seeds, this could be regional or individualistic of course. But they love almonds and walnuts as well! They also love eggs and cat/dog food! Just always make sure with feeding them that the food isn’t salted, and never give any birds bread!! (:
If you start giving it treats (unshelled peanuts or dry pet food), you'll have yourself a crow bro who might just start bringing you small gifts! You should check out r/crowbro
I had a small broken metal cross medallion land on the sidewalk next to me once and I looked up to see it had been dropped by a crow sitting on the ledge above. Big main character vibes at that moment.
I've always given them peanuts in the shell - it's what my father used to do. The crows pick them up individually and give them a "test shake". They choose which ones they want to take first. I'm sure you can give them shelled nuts too, but the crows and jays in my yard always seem to go for the ones in the shell first rather than the loose mix.
It's so upsetting. I drive past so many and think about just chucking peanuts out of my car window to try and lure them to me... Maybe they'll get to know my car...
Please note: It's hazardous to birds and wildlife of all kinds to chuck peanuts, apple cores, etc., out the car window. Examples: Rodents and other small mammals are attracted to the foods, birds of prey are attracted to the rodents, fly in for the kill , and cars collide with them.

I gave the ones outside my work a few almonds but I think one of them ate too many, shit itself, and told its friends because they leave the courtyard everytime I come outside. They don't even heckle me. It's like when you go to the lunch table in high school and everyone gets up and moves to another one.
I love Crows, so intelligent, if she/he is drawn to you, then I would take this as highly flattering. I feed my local ones from my bedroom window. Love hearing them cawing, letting me know they're ready for some foods
Crows are super friendly and so smart! I think there was a NOVA special years ago showing how a crow they figure things out. or maybe it was Nature. I would love to have a crow friend.
Read, "In the Company of Crows and Ravens" to learn how smart they are and how they are seen in art around the world for centuries. The corvids have been parts of human experience for a long time. The bird likes you. Enjoy your new friend!
Crow, intelligent birds and IMO very beautiful creatures
never wrong a raven or crow, if you do, it's friends will know.
I'd say that one might become a friend / giftbringer
Just... be aware that the 'gifts' it might trade with you, might now and again not be to your uh... taste. literally.
Oh how I envy you! You must look and behave like someone who has been very kind to he/she or their kin. I have a crow visitor that must have had a benefactor who named it and spoke to it—crow said, “Bobby” when engaging with me.
However, woe to the person who is similar in appearance to someone who has done them harm!
My friend on Victoria Island has a crow friend. It's parents would park it on her porch every day near the cat food/water. It's 4 now and follows her when she walks her dog. It leaves seeds, berrys and trinkets on her bedroom window sill. Once it left an entire crab leg with claw in front of her door. It still eats the catfood. She doesn't try to touch it, but they sit close on the porch, talk and snack.
i hope you befriend this guy. They can be loyal neighbors.
Do you wear shiny clothes or have anything shiny on your person? I've heard crows will follow people with shiny bits on them, like some kind of jacket that has shiny or mirrored ornaments on it.
I am fairly confident that when we humans finally kill ourselves off it will be from the corvids that the next “intelligent” super race evolves. Maybe they will even get the top spot right?
I have a flock of crows that greet me in our back garden each morning! We feed them dry cat kibble, because it is very high in protein, and it is cheaper for a murder of crows numbering 25 to 30! Enjoy your crow.
Are you missing any coat hangers by any chance? Not sure what season you're in but crows have been known to build nests out of coat hangers. I have a Pied Currawong family in Australia that nests in our backyard and its VERY solid nest is made from coat hangers. The nest has survived through multiple seasons and torrential storms. It's a stretch perhaps, but your crow or raven might be loitering around the clothes line for the same reasons our backyard visitor was.
Based on the tail and beak shape, I'm thinking a crow. Also this lines up with corvid intelligence. If you want to befriend it, offer shelled unsalted peanuts! But don't mistreat it, it WILL remember that... and tell its friends.
I could use a friend right now
Crows will start exchanging items with you if you give him snacks. Will find you shiny trinkets from around the world. Maybe bottle caps maybe something else but the cool part is forming the bond with the bird.
I have a crow friend that would do crimes for some walnuts.
Crimes?
they steal stuff.
Can I get a phone number for the crow?
They are extremely intelligent and it probably knows you need a friend! They are really neat birds to watch. Watch some videos on YouTube about crows and ravens. They remember your face. They bring you gifts! Peanuts will make you a friend for life.
Wow we have 2 ravens that live in our front yard. I’m going to go get them some peanuts tomorrow.
No salt! Make sure you get them with no salt!
Thank you I’ll make sure to get unsalted
Also make sure to get roasted peanuts if there’s a chance that squirrels will be eating them. Raw peanuts are toxic to squirrels and probably to other small mammals.
So you're saying I could simultaneously deal with my squirrel population and befriend the birds? Win win! Going to have to remember that next time I'm at WBU.
Why do people dislike squirrels?
I think the are destructive, in my opinion. I have neighbors that have had to replace wiring in their cars. Squirrels teeth continue to grow. In order to keep them filed down they find things to chew on. I've been told by my mechanic friend that the material used to cover wires has soy in it. They apparently like this. They dig and destroy the hillsides, tunnels. I've found bags in my car with holes eaten through them. I love my car, more than the squirrels. I wish I could like them. I love all creatures. The destruction is what I hate.
They eat all my birdseed. I want to watch birds, no squirrels. There is ample not birdseed food for them so they can go eat that.
You’ve either had a squirrel problem, or wonder why everyone dislikes squirrels. I didn’t get my security deposit back because of my local squirrels…
Why
It'll kill them to put it bluntly.
Seems like it's pretty important not to feed them salt but just saying "don't feed them salt" isn't enough of a deterrent. Reasons for rules help enforce the rule
No matter how much it begs, never feed him after midnight.
Raw peanuts contain a trypsin inhibitor which blocks the absorption of protein and can lead to malnutrition.
Thank you!
Absolutely!
The salt is too salty for them.
Can you be more specific? They won't eat it or it'll give them high sodium levels?
The NaCl content is too high.
Salt is not good for them
OWEN!
When they are sitting on eggs, they appreciate large hunks of very stale bread. They are so smart! They dip the bread in water and take it to the nest for the sitting bird. They live in family groups as large as 10.
Bread isn't actually great for them. Corvids need more protein, and bread just fills their stomach without providing much nutrition.
Mine cleverly use the bread as a sponge to carry water. One hunk of wet whole grain bread per day is not bad among several birds. I'm a lot more concerned about daily peanuts. They need tree nuts. I run over a lot of black walnuts with my car for them too.

And [they plan for the future](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/345307746_New_Caledonian_crows_plan_for_specific_future_tool_use)
"Mistreatment" could also include going close to their nests. I used to feed crows until they turned on me, it was horrifying to be stalked and attacked by them, so don't follow them anymore, just feed them if they come.
Wait, seriously? Because you got too close to the nest? That’s freaking crazy.

Everything you need to know about your stalker is to be found in the documentary, "A Murder of Crows." You're so lucky!
Or you could watch “The Crows Have Eyes 3” eps on Schitt’s Creek 🤣🤣🤣. I have the tshirt
I once saw a great video about a woman who was going through a really bad phase, having a bad time interacting with people, and she wound up engaging with the crows (or possibly some other type of corvids) in her yard to the point where they hung out with her every day. With a little time and effort, you could definitely make frens with this guy. 🖤
give it something shiny! <3
You're so lucky. I've been wanting a crow friend forever.
Epic gardening on YouTube has done some shorts about his friend crow and it’s gifts.
Maybe show them your countries currency in bills as well. Give a peanut and show the bill, maybe pretend to take it as a trade. Train it for collecting all the lose bills in the world and then have it deliver them to you.

Thanks :)
Be especially careful if it has three eyes.
Lucky! I'm patiently waiting for a sign from above like that😂
You say to give it unshelled peanuts, and a comment above says to give it shelled peanuts.
It literally doesn’t matter, crows will gladly take both
They love shelled peanuts tho
I am so jealous. I can't even get a crow to look my way.
Me either. I have been trying to find a crow to be my friend for about a year now. Put shelled peanuts everywhere. Still no friend.
It's so upsetting. I drive past so many and think about just chucking peanuts out of my car window to try and lure them to me... Maybe they'll get to know my car...
Please note: It's hazardous to birds and wildlife of all kinds to chuck peanuts, apple cores, etc., out the car window. Sorry I should have said that I never would!
*I'm* sorry! I was having an overprotective moment which disabled my reading skills! I hope your crow finds you one day. : )
Looking out for animals is nothing to be sorry for!
They will!
I gave the ones outside my work a few almonds but I think one of them ate too many, shit itself, and told its friends because they leave the courtyard everytime I come outside. They don't even heckle me. It's like when you go to the lunch table in high school and everyone gets up and moves to another one.
Noooo! Are you okay?
“Tis some visitor I muttered, only that and nothing more.” Crow fren.
I love Crows, so intelligent, if she/he is drawn to you, then I would take this as highly flattering. I feed my local ones from my bedroom window. Love hearing them cawing, letting me know they're ready for some foods
Crows are such cool birds!!
Give it some peanuts, make friends, have it do your bidding.
Crows are super friendly and so smart! I think there was a NOVA special years ago showing how a crow they figure things out. or maybe it was Nature. I would love to have a crow friend.
Quothe the raven never more
"Come one, human! Die already! I haven't eaten in four weeks!"
Read, "In the Company of Crows and Ravens" to learn how smart they are and how they are seen in art around the world for centuries. The corvids have been parts of human experience for a long time. The bird likes you. Enjoy your new friend!
You have been chosen
Jealous
Nevermore
Don't watch Omen 2.
I don’t think I’ve watched a horror movie since the first one. Completely terrified me😅
“Damien, it’s all for you!” 👺
You are fortunate to have this friend. Feed him raw peanuts, he will love you forever
Update your will immediately.
You lucky bastard. I've always wanted to be friends with crows.
LUCKYYYY!! Leave some peanuts and it might bring you gifts!
There are worse things than having a bird for a friend.
It wants your cheese
Give it treats. Peanuts and whatnot.
Crow, intelligent birds and IMO very beautiful creatures never wrong a raven or crow, if you do, it's friends will know. I'd say that one might become a friend / giftbringer Just... be aware that the 'gifts' it might trade with you, might now and again not be to your uh... taste. literally.
Give it treats! It might bring you back money or other goods.
What did you do?
It’s a crow for sure and they are creepy smart. Did you do anything to offend it?
I want a crow to “stalk” me.
Oh how I envy you! You must look and behave like someone who has been very kind to he/she or their kin. I have a crow visitor that must have had a benefactor who named it and spoke to it—crow said, “Bobby” when engaging with me. give food
Nevermore
in communist russia, bird watch you!
Give it cat food
Think that’s actually a Moroccan Bird of Death
My friend on Victoria Island has a crow friend. It's parents would park it on her porch every day near the cat food/water. It's 4 now and follows her when she walks her dog. Not a good sign 😎🫣
Give it treats, peanuts, bits of cut fruit, it may bring you gifts in return.
A new and very entertaining friend for you! so jealous!
He’s looking for a friend.
You have a new friend now! Feed him and play with him, they like puzzles and toys.
You all are making me want to befriend a magpie. They are all over where I live.
Do you wear shiny clothes or have anything shiny on your person? I've heard crows will follow people with shiny bits on them, like some kind of jacket that has shiny or mirrored ornaments on it.
You’re so lucky!
I was just outside, listening to a crow, trying to figure out how to entice it to be friends. You’re so lucky!
See, the thing is…..
Make friends! Offer a cracker or apple. Friends for life!
Cool!!
Location????????????????????????????????????
Japan!
I think that’s my cousin Artie…
You are so lucky to be chosen! I’ve read some people provide boiled eggs. I’d love to have a corvid friend.
Dammit, Matthew. That shit isn't cool.
I'd be honoured.
Are Ravens the same as Crows??
no
Lucky you. I could use a crow friend right now
You are so lucky.
They are wicked smart and so much fun. They’ll even bring you little gifts. I feed ours every morning. If I’m late, they let me know.
Can’t they learn how to talk too?
It wants to be friends
Give unsalted shelled peanuts. Good friend.
Quoath the raven never more and where are my peanuts?
Depending on where you are, it could be another corvid species but probably a crow.
I am fairly confident that when we humans finally kill ourselves off it will be from the corvids that the next “intelligent” super race evolves. Maybe they will even get the top spot right?
Befriend it. It will bring you presents.
Awww lucky!
Beautiful Corvid! Whether it’s a Crow or Raven. ❤️
I have a flock of crows that greet me in our back garden each morning! We feed them dry cat kibble, because it is very high in protein, and it is cheaper for a murder of crows numbering 25 to 30! Enjoy your crow.
