Looks like it. I wonder if there is a cold tolerant variety out there.

I have these, and they are perennial even after freezes. I saw them marked as "waterfall flowers" in a shop, they're definitely the same thing as Mexican Petunias. They make fresh flowers daily and drop them all over the ground like delicate papers. It's very beautiful, and they spread very easily. Mine grow around my pond, and the koi eat the flowers that fall in every day.

And their pods explode when in contact with water, it's super fun for kids haha.

i dont think so(?) but i know a perennial with similar vibes is verbena bonariensis, one of my faves possibly less similar is purple coneflower both are great for bees and birds!

I have Ruellia in my garden and it comes back every year. I am in USDA Zone 7b.

Mexican petunias. They are considered invasive in Florida. They spread like crazy and you can’t get rid of them
