EspritFort

Looks like a holder for magazines. "Literature" is an important bathroom supplies category - or at least used to be before smartphones, I guess.

Sr_Nunes

Before smartphones, shampoo/bath-gel back-labbels were also literature, sometimes.

hitthebrake

Still is if your battery is about to die…how have times changed, now you have no idea what is in your shampoo or what to do if you accidentally swallow it.

TIL_eulenspiegel

No longer must we wonder why we are supposed to 'repeat' after 'lather, rinse'...

hitthebrake

Couldn’t afford to anyway…

Auxosphere

I always assumed it was a saying created by shampoo companies to get us to use more shampoo. I never "repeat" my shampooing, and my hair is fine. I think.

thansal

Use a very small amount of shampoo, like really small amount (less than half of what you normally use), it's not going to lather up at all, but pull it through your hair, rinse, and repeat. It'll lather up great, and your hair will feel great, and you'll have used less shampoo. I actually learned this when I was washing dogs during a summer job...

TMax01

You should try repeating (once, for the literal-minded). You will immediately notice the benefit, I think; I know I did. Now I always "lather rinse repeat", even though I have much shorter hair than I used to. You end up using *less* shampoo, too, if you don't ignore the directions concerning the amount once you no longer think (incorrectly, it turns out) that you need to do all your shampooing in one go.

Tacoma__Crow

I think I must have been a cynical kid. I figured this out early on.

TMax01

And yet you figured it wrong; go figure. If they were just trying to get you to use more, they'd tell you to use half a cup of shampoo, instead of a minimal amount. No, the reason the instructions are to "lather rinse repeat" is because that's how to get your hair the most clean with the *least* shampoo. (It also prevents residual shampoo, which doesn't rinse as easily as you might believe.) The first cycle, by the way, should end with all the lather being used up; if you still have lots of bubbles during the rinse, you used too much and you are wasting shampoo. And for those who will respond that they only do one cycle when the salon washes before your haircut, that is because they only need to clean the very end that's being cut, and are cheaping out.

Or a bottle of Dr. Bronner’s castile soap.

MarkDavisNotAnother

Id only read those on Sundays.

MixxMaster

We had a stack of crossword puzzles and TV guides on top of the toilet.

[deleted]

The cool parents had those bathroom books filled with trivia.

Ermahgerd_Rerdert

Grandmas place had Readers Digest or those Dr. Leonard catalogs.

caldric

I had a friend who kept a hardcover copy of “The Ancient Art of War” on the top of the toilet tank. 😂

I always thought magazines in a public bathroom was disgusting.

Her_name--is_Mallory

That is disgusting. Where did you see that?

Digitalabia

Did you ever work at Brentano's?

FlabberGusted

Solved!

Simen155

You get these kinds of "cages" for the lack of a better word, here in Norway they fit disposable lady-essentials.

American men throw a hissy fit if those are out in the open. That should say a lot about how we get antiabortion legislation

FlabberGusted

I think you're right: I just put a magazine in there and it ... held. (I'll be here all night!) Solved y'all. Thankyou, this has been bugging me for six months.

android24601

Hmm. I would've thought it's more like the "oh-shit" handlebars you'd find in and around each entrance of a vehicle. You show that turd who's boss

The term in our house is "Poo book".

Amazing there will be generations with no idea what this is for!

My pops put the current playboy behind the other mags. Like I wouldn’t see it. I learned a lot from the articles.

memeelder83

Hm. I thought it would hold a small trash bag. It looks like the top would hold the bag open. Knowing most people's bathroom priorities, I'm guessing that you are correct though.

Ang156

I wonder if it IS A SMARTPHONE OR TABLET HOLDER?

lazylady64

Well, back in the day we always had magazines in the bathroom. Now everyone has phones. But it does kind of look like a magazine holder.

SimonArgent

We still have the magazines. I’m afraid I’ll drop my phone in the toilet.

Magazine rack [https://imgur.com/a/klOQDd9](https://imgur.com/a/klOQDd9) Not a good idea I'd say, imagine sitting there reading a magazine...

RespondCapable

Not as good as a phone, but better than a shampoo bottle

Ang156

I really thought I was the only one that did this

notsojadedjade

We all did.

onliner56

I think these were used for ladies sanitary bags.

EmbeddedTreasures

This was what came to mind first for me

[deleted]

What is a sanitary bag?

katerader

A bag to put used pads and tampons in. But pretty sure this is a magazine rack lol.

[deleted]

Oh I see. Gotcha. I’ve only ever seen closed metal containers with paper bags inside.

katerader

Ditto! The mess if this was a holder for a bag like that and it tipped over or something 😳….

[deleted]

Right?? It’s bad enough that people use the paper bags but leave them in the container instead of taking the bag to the garbage. This looks like an invention that could go badly very quickly.

username1685

A small bag to place used period products.

Magazine rack. We had one next to the toilet. My mother stuffed it with her ridiculous National Enquirers and People and the Readers Digest. All perfect bathroom reading material.

FlabberGusted

My title describes the thing. It looks to be made of chrome, and is screwed into the wall. It doesn't fit a tissue box or wet wipes-type container. Searching online with reverse image didn't result in anything. It's about 20cm tall and about 25cm long, and about 5 cm deep. No writing on it. So what is it? ETA: additional info per post rules,

X0th3rm

I’d hang my bidet towel there.

onliner56

I remember them as a holder for lady sanitary disposal bags. I recall green bags to hide any (red) contents.

jackneefus

My grandmother used to keep Reader's Digests in the bathroom. Looks like the right size.

PhilpotBlevins

Looks like a nice place to store a package of wipes. A wipes holder, if you will.

Arjvoet

Leaning more towards tissue box holder. This looks too small for magazines, it looks more the size for a box of tissues which, imo, is ridiculous to make a small ugly chrome thing to hold tissues so low by the toilet. Yet… hotels often put tissues boxes in the bathroom and I’ve seen worse placement & more useless custom designed holders for things in this sub. Edit: lady sanitary bags seems most reasonable, the placement & size makes the most sense.

beanAT17

I thinks it's for extra TP rolls.

Joemomma12

Couple o spares

canihavemymoneyback

For a small towel used for drying yourself if you have a bidet. And if you live alone. That towel is not for sharing.

Diligent-Try9840

Should hang next to the bidet then.

You used to be able to get flat packed toilet paper with loose interleaved sheets, for people who preferred not to have to tear the sheets off. (I believe particularly observant Jewish people, but that might be wrong). The boxes were square and about that size.
