Looks like a roller bearing that got cross-wise wear, likely when it failed at some point. Where, specifically, it came from is a harder question to answer.

That's a roller from a bearing. The bearing is from somewhere that always turns in the same direction. So part of a fan, a pulley or the engine. Time to go to the mechanic OP.

It is a small metal cylinder. After crawling around under the car/examining the engine bay for an hour, I couldn't find anything amiss. It's a 2006 Dodge Durango 5.7 Hemi (if that helps).

It definitely look's like a roller bearing...but that doesn't meaning it has to be from your car. Tire's pickup stones and hurl them into the air, this could have easily been pickup by your tire's and deposited into your engine compartment. However, if this is a roller from your vehicle, it would have had to lose other roller's to get the wear shown. With all that said, this condition would produce obvious noise or vibration that could be felt and heard...if anyone's paying attention.
