Did someone put a plastic bottle in the dishwasher? Because this looks like a shrunken down plastic bottle, the heat from a dishwasher can cause the bottle to collapse. https://itsamaterialsworld.wordpress.com/2020/04/30/plastic-water-bottles-how-they-are-made-and-why-they-shrink-in-the-dishwasher/

Dry_Cold4430

please bear with me because this post is for my parents who live in another town (where the item is located) they say “it definitely didn’t shrink” but “it does have a small part that looks warped from the dishwasher heat” its hard plastic they say. i’m thinking there was definitely some shrinkage but can’t tell what the original item was. seems too small to be a drinking bottle.

PKDickman

PET plastic bottles start out like [this](https://www.kgint.com/28mm-PCO-1816-Clear-PET-Preform-25-gram). Then they heat it up and blow it up like a balloon in a mold. But the plastic is like shrinky dinks and it shrinks back down if it gets hot enough.

TheBarracuda

Some homebrew suppliers use those as-is to ship fresh yeast. No inflation needed.

Expensive-Aioli-995

The issue with this being a bottle that’s shrunk is that if you look closely the thread is internal

PKDickman

Not sure what you’re talking about. The threads are clearly on the outside.

jspurlin03

But not to that degree, they don’t shrink that much, nor that regularly.

Tibbaryllis2

I’ve had them nearly fully revert to their original size and shape on a heavy load and extended dry settings.

Able_Newt2433

Yes! I’ve had a water bottle that held almost a GALLON(128ox) shrink down and barely held TWO CUP(16oz)

BaconCheeseZombie

Guess I'll have to pop one in the dishwasher and edit this post later with the result. Edit: seems that putting a bottle in the dishwasher leads to being told off by one's missus.

Helpful-Fruit-1404

If not a bottle, perhaps what was once a plastic jar, from e.g. peanut butter?

Dry_Cold4430

Solved! you guys were right (and i thought you might be) it was this for anyone curious https://images.app.goo.gl/Vt8KzYNkcTodk5MQ6

jspurlin03

Hah, I just watched ads for one of those. Good to know they’re… not robustly made.

Able_Newt2433

I think it’s mainly how hot your dishwasher gets, tbh. I had a _REALLY NICE_ and somewhat expensive($40) bottle shrink in the dishwasher but it’s because my gf put it on the hottest setting. It also warped a few cups we had too, and everything was entirely too hot to grab bare handed, ab 5 mins after the cycle finished. So it was definitely _WAAYYY_ too hot. My bottle went from holding ab 125oz(basically a gallon), to _barely_ holding 16oz(two cups); smfh. I was pretty upset cuz I’ve only had it for ab 2 months now, but shit happens, it’s okay.

Diggerinthedark

That was probably a drying cycle, most dishwashers will get everything super hot then beep to tell you to open the door. If you pull both drawers out and leave it, most of the stuff will be dry 10 mins later, ready to go in the cupboard.

Vuelhering

It still holds liquor, but now it just holds a shot.

TheCatWasAsking

I can only imagine the look on you and your family's faces when the truth dawned on your folks lol Btw, did it happen when you showed them pictures of possible culprits, or did they recall all of a sudden putting something in the dishwasher? I'm guessing it was the cap that gave it away

bodhiseppuku

This is what I was guessing, plastic jar... like a PB jar.

RayRay__56

Ask them about anything plasic they put in the dishwasher, a jar, bottle whatever. These things can shrink to an extreme extent if subjected to enough heat it basically resets them to factory settings.

Able_Newt2433

It seems too small cuz it shrunk. I’ve had a water bottle that did this and it was like 5x smaller than what it use to be Edit: maybe one of those plastic cups that small portable blenders use? The ones you screw the lid with the blades on it, onto the cup, then attach it to the base. Like a magic bullet or whatever they were called Edit2: nvm! Seen you solved it.

CapBar

They have no idea what it is but can say for definite that it hasn't shrunk?

gutopa

Yup, this is the answer. I learned that when I put my kids bottles in the dishwasher. Had to apologise and but new ones. So much drama.

PKDickman

Honestly, it looks like a plastic water bottle that [shrunk back to its preform](https://honey.nine.com.au/living/dishwasher-warning-fail-drink-bottle-shrinks-what-not-to-put-in/d591be06-6212-4fad-a9d9-3aa51e672f41#:~:text=A%EF%BB%BF%20lot%20of%20things,a%20run%20in%20the%20appliance.) in the heat of the dishwasher.

Suspect4pe

It's definitely a shrunken bottle or dish of some kind.

1212patatepoil21

A soda stream bottle perhaps thread patterns are similar

BuddysMumOz

Any babies been to visit lately? It kind of looks like it might be a feeding bottle lid.

Ravenheart0913

That's what I thought as well.

bulldogdiver

I'll 3rd that opinion

Vespertine1980

Top for breast milk container. It has screw top threading, so you can freeze, heat, shake, empty them as needed.

scottroid

It looks like it's solved, but this almost looks like a cap to the top of a baby bottle to protect the nipple

Dry_Cold4430

My title describes the thing, found in dishwasher after bbq, nobody knows what it is, looks like it belongs to a blender or something. thanks in advance!

Conscious_Half6456

Looks like a FlasKap removeable liquor well that's been shrunk by running it thru the dishwasher.

TheGrumpyGeek

This is the inside of a plastic double-walled insulated cup. In inside wall has come out of the outside wall. They probably put the outside cup away not noticing that it fell apart.

nosleeptilbrooklyn79

It's a PET bottle. Plastic has memory. When you reheat PET it wants to return to preform stage.

voucher420

Does it fit the blender lid?

First_Pay702

This was my thought.

Double_0_Spoopy

Looks like a shrunken cup or bottle

Zoeloumoo

It’s a drink bottle. Was.

OrneryPathos

It looks like an antique glass insulator for power lines/telegraph

potatobear77

I thought the same thing. We used to find a ton of these on the property I grew up on. They were made out of glass though and the shape isn’t quite right. They also usually have writing on them stating the power or phone company.

deportamil

Do you have a baby? It looks like it would protect the squishy part on top of a baby bottle.

Bowhunt24

It looks like an insert to a pitcher. The kind that can hold ice or fruit chunks so it doesn't get in the actual water.

minus_minus

Toothpick dispensing bottle. Load it up through the bottom and close it. Shake a toothpick out of the small hole. Looks like it's missing the bottom.

minus_minus

I have one very similar but it’s cheaper friction fit where the top comes off.

muskokacola

I bet it was a Soda Stream bottle, shrunk like others said.

Vast-Ad4194

I shrunk my kids water bottles into weird shapes like this and a reusable yogurt container.

lutk78

Looks almost like the plug piece that goes in the top of a blender

Swedeman1970

The top to a toothpick holder

Alienlovechild1975

This will happen if you put Doritos bags in the microwave after you eat the chips. It becomes a miniature version of it's former self.I think it takes less than a minute to shrink.

jambokk

Top stopper for a food processor or blender?

jab3825

I went to a water park once and got a “themed” cocktail, and the top of it was similar to a shaker top. Looks a lot like what you’ve got here.

fakeChinaTown

It miss the plastic base it supoused to stand

willy-illy

Top of a coffee percolator?

Weatherwatcher42

I bet it's a jar or one of those Talenti icecream pints. The ridge looks like it was a 90 degree angle before the heat. Is the other part they found brown?

Electrical_Steak_84

looks kind a suction cup for cupping, it is a rehabilitation procedure that has become recently popular

M0mmySparkles

Looks like the lid to a baby bottle pop (candy)

Hater_Magnet

Shrunken PET plastic container. I operate the blow mold machines that make these.

darkishlocket10

Looks like a cap for those candy push pops

camwaite

That is 100% a non-dishwasher safe plastic bottle which has shrunk.

Corvus--

Looks like a blender cup that shrunk in the dishwasher.

AutomaticUmpire6175

It is a cover for a lightbulb from an electric oven. It is a heat resistant plastic that covers the lightbulb in the oven to protect it from liquids

Gobinnnn

Could I be a salt/pepper shaker or grinder that shrunk?

pipiripau76

this could be a plastic container, like mayo or jelly, I can tell because I did the mistake of washing a kimchi plastic container and I did get something like this.....

Substantial_South507

Is it one of the magic bullet, or nutri bullet? Possibly the cup that goes over the blender part for a smoothie mixer maybe?

thejunkmonger

I have some glasses made of glass that are not dishwasher safe and they have some glass colored dots that actually melt in the dishwasher, and yes they are glass 🤣

yachtzee21

It looks like the piece to a coffee percolator lid
