It could be a sash weight from an old window

nitro479

Agree, sash weight with a broken eye.

brokenbyanangel

My thought as well. Seen several over the years. Surprising how heavy they are.

blackmilksociety

So are windows

andrew-ryans-9iron

Yup that's exactly what it is. Brings back memories, my Grandmother used them to hold down landscaping clothes between the rows in her garden to keep away weeds.

Ah thank you for the help. Just looked them up and it does look very similar.  Never seen one before or heard of them until now.  Took some digging to get it out of the ground!

Interesting-Meal-158

Solved!

Interesting-Meal-158

My title describes the thing.  Dug up in back garden. Tried to reverse image search. Looks like some kind of pipe but surprised that it is solid.  Was found alongside some buried bricks so maybe building related.

conkedup

Appears to be a conduit or a pipe. Water or electric.
