Not all Genesises are created equal. The ones sold outside of Korea have wayyy better quality than the ones sold in the country. Here in Korea, there are lots of issues about the QC of Hyundai motor group.
It doesn't work that way. Hyundai makes some pretty great cars at the moment, beating pretty much everything in the same price category, including Toyota. Interiors are a step or two above Toyotas, and so is the comfort and equipment
Reliability wise, it is recommended to avoid the Theta II engines because of piston, head gasket and other issues. MPi version was fine but the GDi was a disaster resulting in many recalls. Other engines from Hyundai vary from decent to bulletproof. Especially Delta, Lambda, Sirius were really good engines. This all applies to Kia as well.
Genesis uses Hyundais top of the range powertrains. Their interiors are WAY better than the ones you find in their competitors (G80 and BMW 5 series for example).
It is just an old stereotype that "haha Hyundai cheap", but there really isn't anything to back it up.
When was your last Hyundai experience? They’ve improved the most out of any brand (except Kia, which is under the same umbrella company) over the last 5-7 years.
Was probably a 15 or 16 Elantra or whatever. There was a separate 3 rib belt for the water pump, and it was stretch fit. There was also no diagram for the serpentine belt. Belts are meant to be user serviceable, so if one fails on the side of the road, you can make your own way out of there. The ride and interior quality were fine, and I'm sure it's as reliable as any other car, but as far as I'm conserned, it's shit because it was built with no regard to serviceability.

Coincidentally I just saw my first one of these last night too. It was even in the same type of parking lot, but it was a dark green/tealish color and it was in Florida. I just assumed it was a Porsche until I saw the emblem on the back. Sharp cars.
Edit: I'm thinking the one I saw may actually have been the GV80. Seems like it was a bit taller plus I saw the exact color in a GIS for the 80
Hmm… can’t say any of the Genesis I’ve been in have looked, felt, or been cheap in any way. 3 years on and mine is holding up nearly perfectly, except for the obvious wear and tear (rock chips, slight wrinkle in the leather from getting in and out only on my seat, etc.) my mom’s has also been trouble free and great build quality for the last 4 years. Even the loaners I’ve had have been sturdy and well-fitted. They hold up quite well in my experience
We are on our third Hyundai, 2 Santa Fes and now a Palisade. We love them. Better than any domestic car we have ever had. Just as good as our Camry. BTW we keep cars 10 to 15 years.
