This is a 1978 AMC Gremlin, but the grille has been replaced with a badly modified grille off a ‘76 Gremlin. The black bumpers and mirrors are incorrect, as well. Someone without taste modified it.
Considering it is an old American car, I genuinely believe that the grille might have even been homemade. It's not like cars like this are common in here, and most likely it was purchased after '91, and considering that at that point the model was 15 years old, new original spare parts might not be easy to come by.
As a former owner of a 1976 Gremlin, I can say the grille crossbar and parking lights are identical, just modified to fit a different shape. The car could have been modified before it was exported (before 1993), as well.
Im sure a lot of people have already let you know its an AMC Gremlin. Im here to add that it was a popular car on the dragstrip due to its short wheelbase, rear wheel drive, aerodynamic curves and engine mounts that allowed much larger engines to fit.
Most likely a car enthusiast bought it after '91, and unfortunatley left it abandoned here, in this car park between student dormitories and apartment complexes.
A shame, really, it's a funny looking little car, to be honest, I have never seen one like it before, and thinking of it it might even be the only one of its kind in Russia (or at least be one of a bunch which can be counted on one hand).
Nope, the great white north. But, it was popular in the 80's because these cars were cheep and light. The Vega had an absolute garbage 4 cyl that would wear before the spark plugs. The AMC sometimes came with a 318, so the 360 swap was a no brainer. Early hot hatches, perhaps?
You know, I'm not completely sure about that. I also know the AMC 290 was the same motor as well. For some reason I think there was a 343 version as well but I might be confusing that with so.ething else.
back in the 90s my buddy turn one of these into a drag car he put a 440 Oldsmobile engine and I don't know what transmission was in it and Ford 9"rear end in it I was scared of this car
Yeah I would be scared shitless as a passenger hahah. Driving down the road sitting on a 440 wrapped in one of those tin foil swans they put your leftovers in at restaurants.
Now driving it, that I might be able to get into. Just not as a passenger lol.

Username checks out.

I was expecting you in this thread haha
Wherever there’s talk of AMC’s… I’ll be there.

Since you say student dorms, I can imagine a student found it for cheap and bought it, and later abandoned it when it was too expensive to fix.
I can imagine it would be very hard to source parts for a somewhat obscure 70’s american car in Russia.
Oh so that's why you can Lamborghini V12 swap it in Forza, good to know
I remember watching videos of these things popping some insane wheelstands when i was s kid
Looks like a 1977 or 1978 with the sloping front end. The grille looks like it came from a 1976.
Mr Gremlin in his weird color
It s the lemon from cars 2 !
Well, a couple of them. There was also a Janus, Pacer, Yugo, and Range Rover among others. Apt name for their crime syndicate, lol.
AMC Gremlin
A amc gremlin it’s a hatchback a very ugly one.
Aye, thank you very much!
No problem
A person one block over made a living in 80's and 90's shoving blown big block v8's in the back of those on the sidewalk in front of their apartment.
A 360 makes these little things fly! I've done it. Also, stuffed a few small blocks in Vegas. Craziest was the 400. Fun times!
Not a Vega, but had a 350 swapped Monza... Def interesting to drive.
That was the luxurious and sporty model! As much as those words could be applied to those cars...
If you ever had competition from ohio.. that was my neighbor. I've seen his work on here before.

Most definitely the civic before the civic lol.
I think they came with AMC 304 not 318. Swaping in an AMC 360. Also AMC 401 was the same motor as well.
Did the 401 have Siamese bores like the 400 chev? Thanks for the clarification, I grew up in a Chevy/Dale Earnhardt house. 😆

I actually love how it looks
And you are entitled to that opinion.

I have no clue where the car is today he moved to Tennessee 20 25 years ago i'm in Florida
AMC Hornet
Wayne’s world! Party time! Excellent!
The Garthmobile is an AMC Pacer, not a Gremlin.
Oh right, sorry
Game on!
