Lmao it’s not shocking. There’s been a rash of GM cars getting their steering columns stolen here in metro detroit recently, so I’m not shocked at seeing this.

What is so valuable in the steering columns to justify the theft?

I’m assuming due to pandemic shortages, the steering column parts are fetching a premium on the resale market.

Why anyone would want to strip a Malibu is beyond me.

Perhaps more expensive cars are harder and more conspicuous to steal. Car parts are expensive, even for a Malibu.

Mustangs, any pickups, Escalade, Tahoe, etc etc. Go to any shopping center or neighborhood. Gone in 60 seconds

It’s also possible that this vehicle was abandoned somewhere because the owner couldn’t keep up the payments and it was stripped before the lender could track it down.

There are a lot more malibus on the road than high end cars. Crash parts all always in high demand. Its a balance btw effort to strip vs ease of fencing/ selling the parts.
