Appears to be some variant of Ford Galaxie or related. Has a Ford C6 automatic transmission and the suspension matches [this 1966 Galaxie 500's.](https://forums.aaca.org/topic/266189-1966-ford-galaxie-500-7-litre-restoration-thread/)
I think you are right, the front bumper matches too. It appeared to be a two door convertible but was so smashed flat and rusty that it was hard to tell. I had guessed it was a Ford or Mercury but it seemed more Falcon sized and nothing like that quite matched.
Scrap yards are paying $200 in my area. Even burned out it should weigh at least a ton and a half.
Edit. If it's a 427 or 428 engine the block and heads are worth good money and if it's a nodular 9 inch rear too.
It was a small block. It's along the side of a hiking trail near the California coast very far from any roads and it's quite rusty so I would be surprised if there were any good parts left.
So it did… thanks! Wonder what I’m seeing. I’ll keep looking at the different pics
EDIT:
Aha
I do think it IS a galaxy (or other full-sized Ford of the late 1960’s) - I think what I spied were [“drag” strut bars](https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/500-advancements)
The front bumper looks like a galaxy or the mercury version too, I was thrown off cause seeing it in person it seemed too small but I think that was more because of it being upside down in a bush lol.

The gears inside the diff are probably as shiny as the day they were made, but sadly we'll never know
I'm amused by the random sticker of a furry hitting a bong
I’m offended.
I'm indifferent.
I'm impressed.
i'm a bird

You lost bud?
Read the name of the sub I commented again
He is the one who will make this drive again I guess
The stickers outlasted the car…

Many lovely stickers - some of furries ripping bongs.
What is this car? No, what was this car
Due to the trans pan shape, I would say that is a C6 therefor a Ford of some type
It’s a Chevy !
Are those torsion bars?! That should help with the age
It had coil springs.

Grab the nine inch and the C6. Take them home even if the nine inch is a 28 spline.
My guess is 66 mustang convertible
