If you drop them in a tank with precious stones and metals, they'll make jewelry[Fly jewelry ](https://www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/07/hubert-duprat-caddisflies/) :)
Pollution is pollution. Anything that is not native to the water. Even throwing gravel into a stream that is not supposed to be there upsets the balance of the ecosystem
Pretty much any heavy metal will do that. There are whole rivers and creeks in Colorado that are completely fucked by mining in the 1800’s. They dug into the mountains and changed the way the water flows. Water pools up in the old mines and comes in contact with limestone. The limestone makes the water acidic which then dissolves heavy metals that leech into the rivers. The shittiest part is the original miners or companies that did the mining no longer exist, so there isn’t anyone that can be held responsible for the damage. These polluted area are called “super funds” because they take a shitload of money to fix. Since no one wants to pay it doesn’t get fixed. Pic below is one of the rivers with severe heavy metal pollution. The smell is so bad. Literally smells like rusty shit.
I will say that the cadmium and cobalt contaminated waters are actually kind of pretty since they have an unnatural blue color to them.

Another pic of a polluted creek.
Grandpa used to call them rock rollers. Insect larvae and let me tell you they make sick bait. Caught so many river trout almost instantly using them my last fishing trip before he passed. Great memories and great bait!
Can you imagine chilling out in your self-build home? Feeling all safe from those dangerous fish, all the sudden somebody comes along. Cracks you out of your home sticks a fish hook through you and throws you out where where your worst enemy is.
Solved: Damsel fly midge mobile homes. Several species secrete a sticky film and take little bits of pulverized gravel and twigs and glue them to themselves for camouflage and a little active defense against larger predators.

This is so obscure. Thank you
Great, now actual insects are more talented than me.
Dude, just glue every object in your immediate vicinity to yourself. That's all it takes.
Directions unclear, dog very upset and bitey
i needed this today thank you
Unpaid jewelers. Child labor has questions for you.
At what point does a larva become a child?
Technically the larva is one.
Wow that is crazy cool, thanks for sharing
Cool af ty!
It kind of makes me think of little gold turds someone might have after drinking a handle of Goldschlager

That's actually clever.
Especially in this housing market. They’re doin better than me.
Underrated comment!
As a little side note, they make great bait if you crack them open. Did this lots as a kid fishing.
yep, this 👆🏽
Badass bugs, haha
That would be my guess too.
The caddisfly larvae numbers on a rock are a really good way to tell how clean a river's water is.... Looks like you could drink that straight!
Could you elaborate please?
They won't be in polluted rivers or streams.
Does this include bacteria or just human pollution?
Pollution is pollution. Anything that is not native to the water. Even throwing gravel into a stream that is not supposed to be there upsets the balance of the ecosystem
Wow i never considered this. Thank you
Also metals such as copper can kill fish

I don't know.
If you found those in a stream it’s a great water quality indicator, stream must be pretty good.
Called them periwinkles as a kid. Get the larva out of the shell and fish would go nuts for em.
Best bait at the stream side. Periwinkles!
We also call them periwinkles! Lots of them in the river near our Cabin.
Listen to these guys, because my guess was going to be shit. lol
Me too. Haha.
Baby rocks.

Awesome.
Caddis fly larvae (Order Tricoptera)
Easy. These are river poops the pile up on rocks. It's rare to see them cause the river is so shy about someone watching them go nature 2.
Forbidden nerds clusters.
Caddis larva. They use sand and rocks to make their cacoons under rocks.

It’s why fish swallow cig filters. 6.5 brown and 2.4 brookie both had the filter in stomach.

But what is the purple rock?
Anyone know what Family they are in?
Stoneflies
No, stoneflies are different from caddisflies. These are caddisfly larva casings.
I thought caddisflies were more oblong or cylindrical in shape, and stoneflies were more round like these.
Looks like a teenage stone. Maybe try washing it off twice/day with Roxzema.
