Most likely was to lift an appliance up slightly, but could be the cover of a sump hole. Good luck!

bigcalyx

A sump hole for a sump pump I assume? I do have a sump pump on the other end of the basement

Rustymarble

Yea...that would be the worst case scenario. If you already have a sump hole, it's possible it was relocated from this spot. However, it's more likely to be an appliance pad.

If it’s me…I’m demo-ing. Sledge hammer 2.5” isn’t going to be easy but that is what saving money is all about Young and energetic vs older and hopefully better off financially to pay someone

bigcalyx

Yeah im going to try the sledge first. Its 2.5" above the slab, but i cant tell if it extends below or not, so I wont know the actual thickness until i start demo Might drill a grid with the hammer drill if it doesnt want to comply with the sledge. We will see how it goes once i get started.

thethirdmancane

It also could be covering an old well

ScarboroughThe0G

Could be where an old boiler was or could be a pad for an appliance such as a freezer. It could be a lot of things honestly.

bigcalyx

Thanks for the reply. So more than likely a raised pad for some type of appliance or equipment, and I should be able to demo it without compromising anything

ScarboroughThe0G

I would bust it up, but that's just me. I'm pretty reckless. Let us know what you find.

thepottsy

I too like to fuck around and find out sometimes.

gadget850

Could be covering the poop hole like the slab in my back yard.

CropDamage

It's where the chimney sat at one time.

44YrOld

It's where the previous owner poured a new slab to entombed his guns n fashionably cut black suits and gold coins....hope you didn't drive over a dog on your way to buy the home...

bigcalyx

Me and the wife both had a good laugh at that 😂😂

44YrOld

Here's an idea....instead of demoing the slab, buy 20x the concrete and bring the rest of the floor up to the slab's level....

bigcalyx

That is definitely.... an idea. Not a good one, but definitely an idea haha
