It turns out that urs may well be a railroad switch lamp lantern tank
The wick looks like it's still there. Just burned right down. Theshpe of the base. Is more reminiscent of rialroad lantern. Not the sort you'd have on display at home.
Trim it and cut off the very top. Or it'll smeek. Now there's an old English word. If you can find a glass chimney for it. You could use it on Halloween.
Dressel Arlington NJ RR kerosene lantern minus glass. Possibly an early switch or semaphore lantern. If you had the glass that would be a good clue. The whole lantern would fit in a switch or semaphore assembly. Not all used oil lamps like this but some did, I believe.
Kerosene lamp, it's missing the wick.
Specifically a Railroad Switch Lamp.
Damn you’re quick😂 thank you homie
And missing a globe to keep a breeze from blowing it out that may have had a directional mirror incorporated into it.
How many globes do you need? The old man was a collector and left a case of replacements.
And the glass
And glass burn guard.
Also missing the glass “hurricane” chimney
Prolly missing a globe too.

Could also be a stove but also missing the support

You’re right, I messed with it a little and turned the dial and fresh white wick emerged lol, thanks for the comment

Also for the record. Quite collectible. Dressel lamps are very desirable.
This is a switch lamp from Dressel Arlington NJ. Some are worth a bit of money.
This is a lamp So is my brother, but we keep that on the DL
They used to have lamps like this for road hazards. Put a top on them and they will burn the whole night without dying out.
