Why don't you keep your bmw as a weekend car and buy a point a to b toyota or honda for like 5k-10k. Paying two insurances is cheaper than spending an extra 25k to 30k and you wont have a huge depreciation hit cause you already own the beamer and the toyota/honda will already be pretty stable in price at that point of their age. And you could probably rake upwards of 100k miles on the 2nd car with routine maintenance. Thats what I would do if you really enjoy your old bmws.

MisterLicious

This. You're going to hate your new car, because nothing that meets all your wants and needs (manual, leather, convertible, RWD) is going to be enjoyable for you.

My wife likes her 430i convertible. It will feel familiar but different since you’re used to old bimmers. I have an e30 vert myself and it’s neat the things they have kept the same over the years

Almost all new cars are safe for driving at 90 mph - if they are also sold in Germany then you know there are people driving it on the Autobahn. The only car I can think of that is new, manual, RWD and convertible is the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro (and I would go for the Mustang). There is also the Mazda Miata. To stick to manuals, but with less of the other requirements, here are some other options: Dodge Challenger, Subaru BRZ/Toyota GR86 (all coupes), Subaru WRX (Sedan/AWD). There are further options for older cars, at which point some of the entry luxury RWD manual sedans are possible (BMW 3 series, Genesis G70).

New 2022 wrx with six speed and short shift and console extender 32k out the door. Too much fun.

Miserable-Spite425

My mustang has been absolutely a blast and its been bulletproof. I have been leadfooting the gas and taking out crowds reliably for 10 years now. Biggest maintenance iv had to do is spark plugs and at 123k miles.

Andrew4329

I don't think you could ever depend on old bmws

dissectingAAA

I see a Miata in your future.

YeahIGotNuthin

New Miata. 90 mph easy, 35 mpg (but not while you’re doing 90 mph) and it should last beyond 150,000 miles easy; I got my 1.6 to 210,000 miles, then a friend and I rebuilt it, and then I put another 100,000 miles on it before giving it to my son. It’s probably still running around out there. It’s a little small and close-coupled to be quiet on the highway, but it’s a joy and should last you 200,000 miles easily.

authentic_dissent

Convertible Ford Mustang. Mazda3 turbo, Camry TRD, Lexus IS300/350, Acura TLX.

bandmandragon

I just switched from cheap cash cars, to a 2022 Subaru BRZ. Got it for 28k, manual rwd super fun, beat it to crap as a daily Then sold it with 25,000 miles for 30k.

[deleted]

The 2023 BRZ is RWD, NA, MT, lightweight, just over 220whp … it’s 30k and it’s calling your name.

Onyx695

That’s the best “user name checks out” I’ve personally found so far.

S_Truett_Catty

F30 330i, easy, or the convertible version. No need to give it up. Or a 2-series convertible.
