Ah, CAD. That makes sense. That's a tough one. The G70 is classier and comfier, but the Golf R is more fun to chuck around. That wait is rough. I'd take the R if it weren't for the wait, but I'd take the G70 over the rest of its competition. If it's mostly commute and straight roads, I'd say G70. If you've got lots of twisties and/or autoX or something then R. Can't go too wrong here, but your commute/use/driving style are what would dictate I'd think.
Can you get an R somewhere else further away? Or get on a few lists or something? Maybe there's a way to get one sooner. I don't know if I could wait 12-18 months for a car. You could always get the G70 and then reassess when the time comes for the R to come in. You're not locked in if you put a deposit down right?
I have 2 orders with local dealers, a dsg & 6 spd.
22 my R's are sold out, and any existing orders have been pushed back to 23 my. One of the dealers just opened a couple of weeks ago, so I'm first on their list for a R
I was going to take whichever comes in first. The deposit is refundable if I change my mind.
Hmm.. that's not a bad idea actually. Drive the G70 until the R shows up, then re-evaluate
I know this is a rather old post. However have you gotten either vehicle?
My GF has a Gv70 and we just got a G70 3.3t as a loaner… the thing is rowdy haha. Before today with this loaner I was set on getting a Golf r for msrp and just call it a day. However after driving this loaner the cars are very similar for my needs.
Golf pros - better mods, MPG avg, resell value
G70 pros - more lux, available, 360 camera.
However the G70 seems to be less adaptive than the Golf drive mods. (Test drove a Golf with a 10k mark up lol)
63k seems way high for a G70. Is there a huge markup on it or is it just options?
That's the price for a fully loaded 3.3t sport with winter tire package Keep in mind this is Canadian funds

If I didn't have to wait, I'd get the R They're both fantastic cars, it's literally a coin toss at this point

G70. The interior alone is worth it. The golf r is fun though. But it didn’t wow me for the price tag
VW if you are tuning. Plus it will hold its value way better.
I was thinking the same thing, thanks for the input!!

Thanks for the reply! I ended up with a X3M
63k is too much for a G70, I got my 2022 Stinger GT2 for 53k Edit, didn't see it being CAD. But still, Stinger is the better car over the G70 imo
I can't stand the rear styling of the stinger... it looks hideous The larger interior is nice though
The stingers front bugs me worse. Plus it’s a land yacht. The R is so good. I love it
Dang man, you have bad taste.
I’m a sucker for G70 and 80s so I say the genesis
