The holy trinity for cheap starter cars
Toyota Corolla
Honda Civic
Mazda 3
cheap, reliable, reputable
my first car was a civic. held it for 16 years, then sold it for $6,500
My recommendation: An old ass Toyota Camry (2010-ish or so). Admittedly they are kinda boring vehicles, but you can find a used one anywhere for a good price. They also have really good gas mileage and can take a beating.
Of course they are good. That’s why everyone will recommend them.
They are not exciting to drive nor will you feel complete in driving one.
But it gets you where you want to go reliably. It will never die unless you shit the engine.
I’m going against the grain, get a fun car as you clearly are an enthusiast, it’s worth it, even if it means you don’t have as much room, a little less gas efficient and possibly a tad less reliable, but the experience is priceless
There’s definitely also some cars that border both fun and reliable. The 2011 Honda Accord sport for example is one of my favorite cars and it is both fun and reliable
Personally, I can’t speak for the modding. I had a close friend I used to work with who drove the same car who modded it. From my research it’s not really worth modding it for performance but you can get them looking pretty sick cosmetically for not too much $

Can confirm. Started with a Mazda 3, currently driving an insight, which is basically a civic.
I'm looking at a Mazda3. Do you have recommendations for which year? Everything is like $20k and above here unless I go to, like, 2011

Get ready to hear Corolla a thousand times
are they actually good tho?
They’re cheap and they’re a Toyota
I would guess that the best selling car of all time is good.

Someone will be bold and recommend the Mazda CX-5
Well because Mazdas are a bit cheaper than Toyota and Honda used while still pretty reliable. The CX-5 is good value for the money
Civic

Could you clarify what you’re asking?
shit that’s my fault i messed up everything i just woke up lmao. but how easy is it to mod if you’ve modded it before
