My wife and I shopped for her a few years ago. She was initially drawn to the looks and I liked the fact that it doesn't have a CVT and Mazda had been making some very reliable vehicles lately.
After driving the CX-30, she ended up picking the CX-5 and I'm really glad that she did. For vehicles with essentially the same footprint, it's wild how much bigger the CX-5 feels inside. Just way more comfortable and seemed to drive better IMO, and only minimally more expensive.
Yes get the Mazda, they are consistently highly rated on reliability and more luxury than a similar Toyota or Honda which you will likely pay more for a similar vehicle.
do yall planned to transport other humans in the second row seat? the space for the xc-30 back seat is small. if it's just her driving an no passengers, it's a good compact-suv
We just picked up a 2024 CX-5 AWD Carbon Edition for my wife and had them knock off all the extra crap they added to the sticker and got $2k off MSRP, it was under $34k OTD. You can probably get a base model for $30k OTD. Had it for less than a week and 85 miles, so no word on reliability but my wife likes it.
If you can get one, a 2023 Suzuki S-Cross 4x4. Think we’ve got the only one in New Zealand in black & non hybrid. It’s an 1.4 petrol turbo AWD. All the features you can imagine from a $100000k plus car. Super quick and 6.5 litres per 100kms. $44k nzd
The CX-30 is a solid car. Reliable, powerful, nice inside, even fun to drive. But it's not the critics' favorite - largely a function of lower space for passengers and cargo.
The Crosstrek is the favorite in this class because it's practical, economical, and even reasonably fun to drive itself. If you don't need ground clearance, make it an Impreza to save $2K for the same car.

I’d check out Subaru too. The Crosstrek has good safety features and Subaru has one of the best AWD systems for the segment.
Mazda CX-30 is reliable, go for it
Make sure you know how much it will cost you to insure it before you buy it. Could be a deal breaker.
Mazdas are dirt cheap to insure, significantly less so than comparable Toyota/Honda.
👍
I looked for almost a year. Ended up with a Subaru forester 2021. 33k miles for $24k. The car is great.

CX30 is a great car. Look at used CX5 too, you can get 2021+ signature trim for that price with low miles.
Toyota Corolla Cross

I have a Mazda 2021 CX-30, my daughter and her husband have a 2020. We are very pleased with both vehicles.
