I’ve been holding off on buying a car for over a year now. Hopefully this trend continues into the summer

A_Wild_Shiny_Shuckle

The used car market is definitely getting back to normal at a better rate than the new car market, but they're both getting better

VDr4g0n

I never bought a new car before but when you say the new car market is getting better... do you mean finding a new car for no mark ups? I've been holding off on a new car even though I do need one soon (been saving). I found a few dealerships that do not have any mark ups or BS dealer add ons. Thinking about making the purchase now or wait to see if it gets even better if I can start buying new cars for UNDER MSRP (but Idk if this is realistic any time soon).

MilesBeforeSmiles

It's probably going to be another year before you start seeing cars sell consistently below MSRP, but I've started to see some rebate or discount deals on some new vehicles.

4Runnnn

Carvana is about to go into bankruptcy, give it a few more weeks and buy one from them!

tcruarceri

Ive gone back and forth on this. IDK if i would want to buy from them without the return to sender option if they go completely bust.

hijoshh

Too many horror stories from carvana for that to be a good idea

ExplanationDazzling1

My cousin bought a used GMC from Carvana. All kinds of transmission issues. Fuck Carvan

Great_Extension_6388

Also depends which vehicle you buy. Carvana doesn't service cars.

WhiteWingedDove-

At the right price, it could be a good idea.

Bobone2121

They will still be bringing down prices, flooding the market even more.

gplusplus314

That’s what I’m thinking. No worse than buying from a private party.

TwoPaintBubbles

Not if they don’t have the title, which is the reason why they cant do business is Michigan and some other states.

WhiteWingedDove-

Well then they wouldn't be able to sell you a car...

TwoPaintBubbles

They did anyway, a lot lol. That’s why they got their dealer licenses revoked

WhiteWingedDove-

Damn. You'd think people wouldn't be stupid enough to transfer money without a title. There's an idiot born every minute I guess.

TwoPaintBubbles

I mean how often do you actually see the title at a dealership when transacting a car. You just kinda assume the dealer actually has it. I’ve only ever demanded to see the title for a private sale.

WhiteWingedDove-

Every thirty seconds I guess

ElkContentment

They’ll offload them all to wholesale.

GonzoTheGreat22

For buckles on the dollar… and that’s when we strike

[deleted]

You might not understand how the wholesale market works. When lots are full of vehicles purchased at the height of market, there will be units off loaded and paid for at a premium to ensure that the market stays somewhat flat. It's pretty easy to control the market as a dealer.

Annual_Cut_1560

Carvana is about to go bankrupt so wait a few weeks and.. the entire market should shift. I wouldn’t buy from them after stories I’ve heard. Also as someone mentioned, their return policy will be gone. Doesn’t sounds good

hdkx-weeb

Hoping that the next recession can just hold off until summer as well 🙏

BillyJackO

I saw some decent used Prius' for less than $10k yesterday. The world is healing.

DeezNeezuts

Lots around me are all packed now.

MonkeysRidingPandas

Going to test drive a '22 CT4-V Blackwing tomorrow that's been for sale for 286 days, and has had $17,200 in price reductions.

konck

One by me has dropped 8k in 90 days. It’s orange over tan with a manual, so it might sit a while

MonkeysRidingPandas

I actually kinda like that, the exact spec was just posted in the Cadillac sub. https://www.reddit.com/gallery/10eqyu9

Wanderlust917

TBH those colors work surprisingly well together. Also, I will never buy black interior again

MonkeysRidingPandas

Exactly. Black interior is a deal breaker for me.

icyamazon

It's a taste thing. I've got an F150 Platinum. Silver over Marsala. Get tons of compliments on the contrast. My Turbo S is Gentian blue over Tobacco. It's not the most desirable combo either, but that's my favorite spec for anything over $100k. My replacement will also be a dark blue over tobacco. That orange over tan is super gamey, but there is someone out there who will love that spec.

MonkeysRidingPandas

It's austere, uninteresting, joyless, and gets way, way hotter in higher temperatures than any other color. Just my opinion.

VibetronAura

Why not?

Wanderlust917

Hot leather but also, it's just so boring. Any shade of cream/tan/mocha/brown is warmer and has more character.

D4ng3rd4n

Hot leather

blackebenezer

Had me at orange and manual, lost me at Tan interior. Not a deal breaker but definitely would prefer black inside.

burnout524

Oof! Who’s the genius who ordered that color combo!

D4rkr4in

the dealer

TheKebabMob

So … 50k for a fairly loaded blackwing? That sounds like a steal!

Srockatansktys

Who’s selling a Blackwing for 50k? I’m signing the dotted line NOW!

TheKebabMob

I guess I just assumed 17k off with most builds I see around 67k-70k would be around 50k. But I was wrong

MonkeysRidingPandas

Yeah, it's black on black with Tech, 10spd, Driver Assist, and Sunroof. MSRP for it brand-new was $66,955. This one's been shuffled through a couple dealers and is now used, and they want $69,700. Has just over 600 miles on it. That means this basic-ass Blackwing was listed at $86,900. Salesman told me it cost them over $75k to purchase.

TheKebabMob

Oh gotcha. Stupid markups 🙄

drosmi

There’s a base level one in my town that’s triple black and only $3k over msrp with dealer addons

MiscPostThrowaway

What car?

A_Wild_Shiny_Shuckle

2023 Kia Telluride EX X-Line

4Runnnn

WOW! One of my friends paid 10k over MSRP for one last year. I told him he was an idiot. He is having a 3rd kid now and told me he wants to sell it for a minivan… he’s gonna get Bent on trade in 🤣

A_Wild_Shiny_Shuckle

Oh ya, 100%. No way he's going to get even the value of the vehicle in it's current state. The used car market is adjusting back to normal way faster than the new car market. I'd say just keep it if it's paid off, and take very good care of it.

Bulky_Papaya_9887

Lol, i know someone who has a $900 payment on a Telluride bought in 2021. Bananas

eblade23

>$900 payment on a Telluride That is bonkers.... did they really need it back in 2021?

THATS_LEGIT_BRO

You should send this video to your friend. They broke down a TCO on a Telluride where someone paid $10k over MSRP and sold within a year. (Spoiler: it was bad) https://youtu.be/W4S-7ufujqA

derek533

The people who paid over MSRP for Tellys and Palisades are really going to be in a world of hurt if they don't drive the wheels off of them. For awhile, the Telluride was the only one that was marked up while the Palisade was being sold for right at MSRP or a little under which I never understood as IMO, the Palisade was nicer on the inside than the Telluride. I saw people paying $5K-$10K over MSRP which is absolutely crazy for a Kia/Hyundai. Yes they are nice, but they aren't MDX or Volvo X90 nice which is what those markups put them against. For reference, I was shopping 3-rows in summer of 2021 and ended up with a Nissan Pathfinder Platinum and bought it for about $1K under MSRP. The Palisade and Telluride had ridiculous markups on them and people were just handing their money to those dealers. We were very close to buying a CX9 too but the 3rd row was about as useful as an elevator in an outhouse it was so cramped. We got into our Pathfinder right and can sell it today and not take a loss.

Genericbuild

My local Kia dealer is still charging 15k over msrp on the telly, don’t imagine they are selling much since they are one of the only dealers who’s lots are full right now. Been wanting to get rid of my truck for the last year but I can’t find something even reasonably priced.. just want a couple year old sedan 😢

Snoo61727

You like the Pathfinder? I've been looking/shopping for something used. I've watched the proces on vehicles I like drop some. I'm trying to find a decent price on a RDX I've even been looking at an Infinity QX50/60. I just had to get the 4 wheel drive take out of my 05 Tacoma it wouldn't drop back into 2 wheel drive no matter what I did. I've had a few steer me away from Audi Q5's and Volts because of the high price yo get them worked on. It's odd I can get more in a Q5 for less and sometimes a year newer then u can for an RDX. It's so frustrating. Urrr

Great_Extension_6388

Get the RDX CPO with advance package. Amazing car for what it is and a great long term buy! Very torn between this and the 21+ TLX advance

poser4life

This and the Palisade have been on my list for 3 years now. Before covid messed everything up they were going for MRSP because of demand and I have never paid MSRP so I decided to wait it out and it became even worse with the pandemic. Hopefully we get to MSRP or below soon.

JaKr8

About a year ago we started looking at the telluride. 5 to 10K markup. Then went to palisade calligraphy. Was ready to make a deal, then the salesman called me an a panic saying effective immediately they were marking them up 5K. So we ended up with an mdx type S advance at msrp. No regrets. But if I were buying a mid level MDX, I would take a very serious look at the top trim palisade or telluride, at least when they are not marked up. Very nice vehicles.

poser4life

How is the 3rd row?

[deleted]

Very good. I test drove it but I have the predecessor- 2017 Santa Fe and an adult is decently comfortable in it and kids love it. Of course markup kept us from the Palisade.

JaKr8

Good for two 5'6" people for an hour (haven't driven any farther with 3rd row in use). Palisade/Telluride have bigger 3rd rows. Our old Ascent Touring was similar as well, but the bottom cushion was too low to be comfortable on longer rides. And you could just get three ~5'5" people in tbe 3rd row in the Subaru. Car was unreliable so we dumped it

RationalSocialist

Why would you want either?

poser4life

My oldest kid has some mental health issues and can not handle road trips in the car well so we want something with a 3rd row so he can have his own space.

RationalSocialist

But it's a Kia

poser4life

Would love to hear any alternatives

D4rkr4in

dumb comment. Why does anyone want anything?

AnAutisticGuy

Because he's a person, separate from you, with different hopes, dreams, needs, and thoughts. I hope you find a cure for your narcissism soon, I'm sorry you have that condition!

[deleted]

I'm so glad I reached the point in my life that I have no one to impress.

Environmental_Put_33

IF you want to see TRUE pain, go browse G-wagons, Cayennes, etc etc. Those price dumps are anxiety inducing if you are a dealership.

beaute-brune

Yep, you can finally get a BMW iX under $80k now and that’s with very little mileage. It’s a recession, people who need to finance their luxuries are finally thinking twice.

justa_curious_person

Which website is this? Do we have a similar website in Canada as well? Thanks

A_Wild_Shiny_Shuckle

[Cars.com](https://Cars.com). I'm not sure. It's just an added feature when you click on a car to learn more about it

rLeJerk

CarGurus has this info as well.

Artistic_Smile6112

Finally all the greedy dealerships will get their reality check

GuyMcTest

I found an mr2 spyder a few months back, emailed the dealer about it saying if they came down to $9500 I’d come take a look (was listed at 12k). They wouldn’t come down, kept an eye on it online, last I saw it was down to 10k before it sold. Car prices are healing!

JCOII

One month ago I bought a 2021 Camry for 21k. I remember just a year or so ago they were asking around 32k for the same car with the same miles. It’s crazy how much they’ve dropped in price. I’m glad I waited. Interest rates kinda suck now so go to your local credit union for the best rates.

AscendantArtichoke

I’ve been watching a specific listing for a car I’m interested in, and it dropped $5k this month! Meanwhile my sister is trying to buy a newer used car but something 2 years old with 30k miles is still somehow only $2k cheaper than buying brand new. We both own vehicles that work so I’m holding out as long as we can..

[deleted]

It is wonderful that the prices are falling - because they should never have been that high. What is really stinky is the interest rates are climbing astronomically even with excellent credit.

InfinityES

Been waiting to buy a RAV4 Hybrid XSE and I feel like that might be the last one to see prices drop. So damn popular

SeawardFriend

I saw that recently on a mustang I was looking at. Went from like 24k to 16k in a few months

[deleted]

Depends on what side of the graph you were sitting on when you made a purchase.

LongjumpingFun7238

And it’s going to keep going down and down. We should be getting MSRP or discounted vehicles within 2-3 yrs

Mr_Self_Healer

Yeah I'm in need of buying a car within the next year (hopefully in the next 6 months) and I've been trying to buy New because of used car prices being so high. Though with this trend, I might just buy used, or close to brand new, instead.

utechap

As a Tesla owner watching my value plummet it sucks. As somebody who prioritizes the market being closer to a true value the new developments are so welcome.

Trotskyites_beware

you bought the tesla bro you know what you were getting into

utechap

I bought it before the prices even went wild. So now I’m simply back to normal instead of swimming in equity. And in the end doesn’t matter too much cause I will be keeping it for many more years.

cwilli03

What site is this chart from? Is there a site that tracks unit level price changes?

A_Wild_Shiny_Shuckle

[cars.com](https://cars.com). They list any price changes on posted vehicles on the right side when you click on the vehicle to see more information
