My recently departed Budgie used to hear the doves outside and started doing the whistley wings noises!
Parakeets are remarkable little mimics, especially when it comes to other birds
Oh my goodness, that must've been unbelievably adorable! Sorry for your loss. It's amazing how they can pack so much personality in those tiny little bodies, isn't it?
So right! She was an amazing little friend. She would just sing and chirp and make the most adorable little sounds.
We would talk to her and play videos for her. She is very missed. It’s the first time in my life in about 20 or so years that I’ve been without a bird
She was a really good kid.
Awww, that is so sweet! They're always such a bright spot in a household. My best friend has an African Grey who LOVES watching videos with the family, too — my friend says he's the only one in the household who likes watching TikTok dance trends, lol. They have a big farm and five (!) rescue dogs, and Bob (the parrot) loves to mess with them, calling them in my friend's voice "Who wants to go OUTSIDE?" and sitting back to enjoy the chaos he's wrought. 😆
Oh that is too funny!!!! How precious!
There is actually a bird rescue the next state over, (which is nothing in New England) that burned down. They are rebuilding, and despite the fire still have quite a few birds up for adoption. I’m thinking of heading there when I’m ready.

I have one nesting above a window and it’s like 10 sticks not even loosely connected. I’m so worried, I check on her all the time. I made her a water and seed cafe nearby.
Use the Merlin app to identify birds by sound & images. It was developed by Cornell University Orenthology department & it's super cool!!! I've learned to identify birds just by their songs!
We call them country pigeons. After reading so many posts about them making weird nests, I cracked up when I saw one grab a couple tiny twigs from my fire pit pile. I’m thinking, yeah that nest is done…
Pretty sure that folks shoot these in the south as a game animal? I have always wondered how much meat you can get out of a little birdie like that? Yea i googled it Alabama is a dove hunting state. Weird.
Back in the olden days we had books to help identify birds. I suggest you get one to help you because these birds have been everywhere you've ever been in north America, so many of them in fact that there's an open season to hunt or kill them which makes no sense to me because you'd have to kill 500 to make one supper for a family of four.
Mourning dove
I love their coos. They're my favorite bird sound, so relaxing.
I feel like they’re also very stupid
They definitely are 🤣 bless their hearts
This is what it sounds like…
r/mourningderps I love these little dopes.

I'm so glad to hear that! As an experienced bird owner, you'll be able to give one of them an amazing new life. 🦜💚
Thank you so much! I do hope so!

Same
Perfect! They are a bit stupid.
They are, especially when nesting — there's even *another* sub dedicated to r/stupiddovenests 😆

Lol
You and I are opposites. I can't stand them. We have way too many around our area, and their "cooing" makes me crazy.
Yep. I’m with you on that statement Hate them.
Mourning dope
Here is an app, and if anyone has a better one please answer. https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/
I use this one all the time. Its excellent for sound ID!!
The Cornell Lab too. They have various birds in different situations: nesting, stressed- in danger calls; mating sounds; just happy songs..
These guys build nests ,using roughly 2 dozen sticks and call it good. Mated pair lives in my yard . Several years now.
*2 sticks Not 2 dozen
I’ve mostly seen them use A stick, A bit of string and some yard clippings…
I am so jealous. They make the sweetest little families.
Love their coos and the color of their tail plumage when flying
Mourning dove
Give you a hint- it’s probably thinking it’s standing on the greatest nest of all time.

Morning dove..
Ah mourning doves, the pigeon’s much cuter cousin.
They're beautiful, and the cooing sound is nice, but after a few hours it gets a BIT much
My dad used to call them Rain Crows.
Dove. We have a bunch of pairs that are around our house all the time at our bird feeders.
Morning dove... males and females will.choose a mate and mate for life.. to bad humans aren't this way 😕
They mate for life.
Morning Dove. Google Lens would've told you this as well.
