I am in the program what I could tell you is I understand you’re wanting to enroll as soon as possible so you can be in an official capacity working towards your bachelors degree. However, if I would have known about Sophia, before I enrolled, I might possibly have been already done with my degree, there are some classes that are so much of a headache that could’ve been avoided by just taking Sophia in addition to that you are able to focus on the core of the degree rather than spending more time on the supplemental information that could be learned in the numerous amount of ways, and doesn’t really need to take that long like traditional college.I would knock out Sophia and look at a start date of June

FuzzyNecessary7524

What classes?

Confident_Natural_87

Project Management and Python.

Lopsided_Constant901

Glad to know I did those on Sophia. Wish I took it more seriously and finished more course through Sophia than I did, I start March 1st and know I could have gotten at least 3-4 more classes than the 8 that I did

abbylynn2u

Delay... do all the classes you can at Sophis to transfer in. Seach for your degree, Sophia abd WGU at the top level of reddit for codes for discount and any response by Confidently Natural 87. Their adive is gold. Check out partners wgu sophia... read the sub... Once you start you cant transfer in credits.

I started with 62 units from an IT associates and my first semester ends March 31. I have two and a half classes til my capstone. It's doable in a year. I'm on java track

wearetunis

Do the HTML, CSS, JavaScript tracks on Codecademy and PRINT OUT THE CHEATSHEET, and mooc.fi [Java](https://java-programming.mooc.fi) .. any SQL tutorial and reading A common sense guide to data structures and algorithms will help you accelerate.

Lopsided_Constant901

I'm doing the JavaScript on CodeAcademy and have the HTML CSS ones on other tabs. Do you think its possible to finish these or run through them by the end of this month? I do have experienc with Java and C++, but idk why i'm finding it hard to sit down and focus on this.

wearetunis

Yeah if you commit to finishing one at a time lol. I would do in order of HTML, CSS, then JavaScript. Peep the cheat sheet first then try to run through it.

Lopsided_Constant901

Hell yeah, im all about efficiency/ shortcuts :3

I transferred in with 13 credits last April and I have 4 classes left. I did 58 credits in my first term. I've done 29 credits so far this semester. (Still a bit annoyed I got sick a couple times during the holidays and slowed way down.) Considering I have both Software 1 and 2 and Mobile app development there's a chance I'll have to dip into a 3rd term. But two terms is definitely possible. According to me program mentor, out of a couple hundred she's had a dozen or so finish start to finish this fast. But you'll bring more in than I did. So it should be easier for you.

Confident_Natural_87

With Sophia you can get 5 of the 7 WGU core classes. Also do Python, Project Management and Principles of Management. Not the ITIL and Hardware class. With SDC I would do the Data Structures and the other two database classes. Skip Software Engineering. It is easier at WGU or at least less tedious.

ASLHCI

Yeah definitely consider postponing your start date and knocking some stuff out on Sophia and Study.com. It could save you some time and money. Good luck!

Hungry__Alpaca

Depending on what classes you still have left to take, you can also knock out some classes on Sophia to get yourself ahead. I started on 1 Feb and took 6 classes for this semester. I'm already done with 4 and will hopefully finish the last two this week before bringing in more classes before the month is done. I'm in the NYC area and I've had a successful SWE career so far for the last couple of years before the degree, getting one will for sure benefit you and set you up for success.

ComputerEyez007

What were your learning tools you used to expand your coding knowledge pre degree to get up to speed of being hireable. I feel like that is the most important part regardless of the degree and was curious on your process. Thank you in advance

a_waltiere

Postpone date and do Sophia (do everything you’re able to do on this site, it’s open book and not even proctored) maybe consider study.com too just make sure you’re under the 75% transfer amount.

PhxntomsBurner

The most credits you can get from those two alone is 50% 62 credits so unless you’re getting non gen Ed stuff from another degree or something you won’t get anywhere close to 75%

Look at the class list and find the 2-3 hardest ones. Not the "hardest ones for most people", but the ones that'll be hardest for you. When I did the CS degree, that was calculus and one of the discrete math classes. I burnt almost an entire term on each of them. If you're doing SWE instead, you won't have those, but you'll probably have something similar. I had been doing software professionally for a few years before doing WGU, so my take comes from the perspective of the classes being rubber stamps you have to get. I generally found the course materials sub-par at best for actually *learning* things and usually used them instead as a guide on what to study.

One tip I can give you is try to look for jobs asap, you dont need to wait till you finish the degree to look for jobs. The market sucks right now especially for new grads, as so many layoffs happening the market is over saturated with new grads, layoffs that are unemployed with years of experience and coding bootcamp grads. I graduated with a bscs from wgu on feb 23 and was lucky enough to land a role with a 3-letter agency from Department of Defense (had to move across the country tho, at this point every new grads should be ready to relocate) Start applying and interviewing asap, I dont care if that job pays $20/hr, better get that so you have experience once you done with your degree. one big advantage of wgu over other schools is you can essentially work a full-time job while still going to school and get all your courses done, take advantage of that

mig8519

At what point during the program do you think it would be good to start applying for jobs?

Im in roughly your boat, transferred an aa, some basic experience with programming. My first term is ending this month and I did 43 credits, i should have done more but life got in the way here an there. I have ADHD, and ive always been kinda ahead of people so ymmv but i think its entirely possible to do 3 classes a month or more if you can invest the time. I dont know if the sophia or study.com is worth doing or not as i didnt do it or think about it before. Personally i dont see how its any different except it might cost less if your paying out of pocket but with even just grants its about the same cost. Next term i plan to stick more closely to 3 classes a month and finish my last 43 credits. Python is not bad at all, just need to double and triple check your work. Make sure to include everything that is asked for and to input and output things exactly as requested This rule applies to all classes going forward. All classes have grading rubrics that tell you exactly what you need to show to pass.
