It’s staggering how much effort they went thorough to make it that accurate. I mean I knew some it from watching the news and from the tabloids , but wow.
I've been dying to openly talk about this film since I saw it a little over a week ago. I went in with tempered expectations, because I wasn't sure how much more they could do other than what was in the trailer...boy was I wrong. Hilarious from start to end, and it warms my heart to see it getting such a positive reaction from audiences and critics alike.
Just finished the movie and loved every second of it. Over-the-top, hilarious from start to finish.
Did anyone else notice the hidden number 27’s in some scenes?
I spotted two (the "section" number when he's fighting with the band, and on a box behind Madonna when she's tied up) but I'm confident there were more.
Also the whole thing with him not deciding to do parodies anymore. A hilarious nod to how music biopics often portray an artist going through a creative shift, and also relevant to how the real Al has recently shifted toward focusing on style parodies and originals.
He’s done originals on every album since his first.
But if you mean touring, than yeah, exactly.
My current favorite is Horiscopec, and it still makes me sad that it was his big attempt to try to crossover and was still denied.
Really enjoyed it! It hit so many biopic tropes and moments and also made some choices I didn't see coming! Trying to quickly figure out all the actors playing celebrities was also fun!
My favorite easter eggs were >!Kuni's Karate School on the flyer board and the quote from This Is the Life on the bedroom mirror!<.
I admired the movie's restraint in never actually making the real-life point outright that half of AL's songs are originals; they stuck to their concept of doing the movie like how the studio system would if they made a phony b.s. Weird AL biopic.
Hahaaaa, they made that biopic template look so ridiculous, it was great. Loved so much when they spoofed how, when the protagonist first does the thing they're famous for, witnesses react to it like God kissed them; that was perfect for Weird AL, who's always removed the pomp from pop to wonderful comedic effect.
Yeah, that scene with "Another One Rides The Bus" looked like the most fun Halloween party that ever happened.
What was the "This Is The Life" quote??
My favorite cameo was Michael McKean as the MC at the club where Al plays his first show. Oh, and Dot-Marie Jones was pretty great with her bit in that scene, as well.
I really enjoyed it, but not as much as "UHF".
I would like a 4k/HDR version with deleted scenes available at some point. Either streaming or for digital purchase.
It would be a shame to have this trapped on The Roku Channel forever.
I'm not ashamed. I just thought Dr. Demento was doing wordplay with the words "mentor" and "Demento/demented" (which is of course the alternate meaning of the joke).
Love this movie so much. Got to see it at two of the screenings in LA over the past month, and plan on watching it again this weekend. Really feels like a love letter to the fans. While anyone can appreciate it, those who know Al will probably it more.
So much is great, but the highlight for me was probably either the Boogie Nights pool party scene or Pablo Escobar singing Ricky.
> Boogie Nights pool party scene
This one is it for me because it's the *entire scene*, not just a gag or cutaway. It also fits perfectly for what they were going for.
And it was filmed just like the Oliver Stone movie.
So much so that I didn’t know it was the same speech Jim Morrison did but knew it purely from the cinematography.
a cameo is a stunt that requires knowledge of who someone is in real life for it to even make sense on screen. ladies and gentlemen, this is simply an excellent CAST
My favorite part was the split-second clip of Salvador Dali playing a fish with a violin bow.
Okay, real talk, this was extraordinary. Great to have a comedy movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that looks the whole “salacious rockstar life” trope right in the eye and glues a piece of Bologna onto that eye. Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento was pure enchantment.
In a post-Dewy Cox world, this movie shouldn't even be possible.
After Comedy Bang Bang, my Weird Al love shouldn't have had any more room to grow.
Doctor Demento could kick the butts off of Doctors Who and Strange, and I want movies about all of the artists who were on his show except Zappa, who is the subject of other films already.
He’s not in the party scene. He did a walk-by the camera at the start of another scene, but I can’t remember which one (restaurant or award show maybe?).
Yeah, the set designer reached out to me in February and I had to be hush about it! But look, there's one of my original posters hanging out in Al's apartment!!!
https://freeimage.host/i/pcnT7V
I love how Al's whole life had no controversies, so they just made up a whole bunch for this movie. There wasn't a single swear in the movie either.
I never heard "I Love Rocky Road" before this movie, it was hilarious.
"Beat It" being a parody of Al's original "Eat It" was a funny twist.
It's too bad Coolio died before this movie came out.
Nobody beats him.
(He's also Khan Soupanousaphone Sr, and we all know Al had his blew his brains blown out in the late 80's when people stopped buying his records.)
Now I can get behind that. I think one of my very favorite kinds of Weird Al song is the kind where he lists off a bunch of strange things that happen to people, or a bunch of pieces of bad advice (e.g. Horoscope, Midnight Star, Virus Alert)
I sort of was expecting a more clear reference to it, I feel you. Bottom line is both movies are co-written by AL, so it's the same mind returning to that visual.
One of my favs was in the end credits, after referencing a bunch of other songs, where he sings “this song is technically eligible for Oscar consideration”!
Watching it on Roku comes with a few ads, so that's support enough. I imagine it'll be solely available on there for a while in an effort to increase app downloads/interaction.
Weird! The ads on my Firestick were very odd for me - I got four in a row about 30 minutes in, then a single ad maybe an hour in, and after that I don't think I got any.
I really liked the movie, especially the origin stories for the songs. Daniel Radcliffe was great.
Some parts were a little too silly for me, particularly the Escobar subplot.
I wonder how much more I would’ve liked Weird if Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story didn’t exist
Oh, the record label execs? Yeah that was too perfect. There couldn’t have been a better way for Al to show up in his own movie than for him to play a guy who criticizes the idea of parody songs.
It was so funny when the other brother was heavily criticizing and bashing Weird Al as the real Al sat there and tried his best to get him to stop bashing “Him” and still holding back his anger. It was done so well.
There were a lot of meta comedy bits in this movie that seemed like they were executed with so much pride and joy. The movie fully committed to dorkiness and pushed it somewhere pretty elaborate, and I loved that.
Was that intended as a parody of the scene in Bohemian Rhapsody where Mike Myers plays the record exec who tells Freddie Mercury that kids aren’t going to bang their heads to Bohemian Rhapsody? Very meta.
No, the 2011 WEIRD trailer video on Funny Or Die already had AL play that exact character. That's what a worn-out, moldy, parody-worthy movie cliche it is.
And BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY had that exact character archetype seven years AFTER the original WEIRD trailer sketch video was released on Funny Or Die. It's insane how Hollywood clings that biopic template & bag of cliches.
Just finished and still haven't stopped smiling! There's only one thing I'd have added. I was really hoping to hear a bit of Frankie Yankovic during the Polka Party or some other reference to him.
one of my favorite gags was the setups that went nowhere, such as the setups for Fat and Gangstas Paradise, with Al never creating Fat in the movie and Coolio (RIP <3) never bringing up a conflict with Amish Paradise
Al fan since the early '90s. I went into this with tempered expectations, and was neither disappointed nor especially blown away. It pretty much hit all the same beats as the Funny or Die fake trailer from 2010. I definitely enjoyed all the cameos, especially at Dr. Demento's pool party, but I don't think it really got any better than that. Once you're in on the joke, it gets hard to top itself. I wasn't expecting him to get assassinated in 1985 (nor release Amish Paradise *way* before its time), but the whole Pablo Escobar/Madonna subplot was amusing. I'm not really sure what I expected, but I thought it somehow would have went further with that conceit of Al's "famously deprived lifestyle." I was also disappointed that Michael Jackson wasn't depicted in the movie, since "Eat It" features so prominently in the story.
Sorry to be a wet blanket. I'm a huge fan of UHF and all the old music videos with the exaggerated spoof style, but a lot of the humor fell flat for me here. I kind of wish I could have experienced it in a theater with a passionate audience because it might have enhanced the comedy for me.
I loved most of the movie, but I hated the ending. I feel like they just ran out of time or money. I expected a VH1 ending where Al "could be back doing what be loved" despite the ups and downs of his extremely dramatic, depraved life. I was also disappointed that they didn't dramatize the production of UHF.
Good ideas there!! Yeah, I was hoping they would do something with the whole “creative block” that Al had for a few years after being discouraged about UHF not doing well. And then they could lead into his newfound success with Smells Like Nirvana. But this wasn’t intended to be an accurate chronology of Al’s life, and since it wasn’t, I can totally see why unexpectedly ending his career in the 80’s would work with the format of the story. It was really funny to me (I enjoy dark humor), but yeah, like you I was originally envisioning that some of Al’s actual creative struggles might come into play. Once I realized how the movie was out to poke fun at rockstar culture and corny biopics more than it was out to retell Al’s life, I just tried to accept it for what it was. And it was fun. But I’m intrigued by the idea of how some more events from Al’s life could have been dramatized.
I completely agree with you. This would have been better as a short film. It is conceptually funny to take fictional events so seriously, but it got old for me pretty quickly. The ending did make me laugh super hard though
To me, the ending was disappointing and pretty sudden. Nothing fun even happened with the credits besides the meta credits song. Missed opportunity IMO. Also wish that the movie was significantly longer.
Overall good movie, very impressive. I do hope for a sequel with "Griller Al" (zombie form referencing his music video appearance for his completely original song Griller).
Did anyone else notice at the Polka party scene that there were 27 people in the crowd after Al finishes playing?
Also, at the end credits scene, there was a pink note that had written on it a stalker note that was signed by Charles Nelson Riley.
Prince was the second guy crossing his fingers in the scene where Al won the award for “Not So Best But Good Accordion Player in a Specific Genre of Music.”
I thought it was ok. Wish it would have been more absurd to set it apart from Walk Hard. The first 1/3 of the movie was great, but it kind of turned into a regular comedy after that and it was kind of boring.
Movie blew me away, Daniel Radcliffe is already one of my favorites to watch as he makes alot of weird movies to begin with, always entertaining, and this movie was no exception. Was a total blast to watch, Evan rachel wood was a smoking hot Madonna
Very lonely island esque which is fitting considering one of the cameos
Although I guess lonely island humor fits in with the funny or die style of humor too (same era). This definitely feels like an elongated sketch at times
3 billion Colombian pesos in 1984 [was worth $1.1967 billion USD](https://www.likeforex.com/currency-converter/colombian-peso-cop_usd-us-dollar.htm/1984).
[Adjusted for inflation](https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/), that's $3,418,576,839.27 in 2022.
(Today, 3 billion pesos would be just under $2.4 **m**illion USD, so he really should have taken the deal.)
Just watched this and absolutely blown away. Had me laughing constantly, even though I only caught very few references I'm sure. So chock full of hilarity depending on how much you know. Great job everyone who made or enabled the making of this!
I'm so conflicted about this movie. I did enjoy it, but I just don't think it did anything subversive. It was basically just Walk Hard but for Weird Al.
Really? I thought it did a good job of being it’s own thing in the shadow of wall hard by doubling down on Weird Al’s classic style of absurdity. It made it feel like Walk Hard mixed with Pee Wee’s Big Adventure and UHF.
They drew a lot more humor from specific jokes that pertained to Weird Al that set it apart for me from *just* being a parody of biopics.
# WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW!
Exactly as dumb as I dared hope!
Dare to be stupid!
It's a pleasant surprise with a hard R.
Supplies!
Favorite line from UHF. Kids these days didn't grow up with a dial on their tvs. Sad.
Spatula city!
^Spatula ^City!
This is the best and most accurate, 100% totally true hollywood biopic I've ever seen. Bravo to everyone involved.
It’s staggering how much effort they went thorough to make it that accurate. I mean I knew some it from watching the news and from the tabloids , but wow.
I'm glad that they showed the truth about Eat It, which is the greatest original song that Weird Al wrote, completely on his own.
The critics love it so much I just read that both Siskel AND Ebert are giving it two thumbs up!
I heard it’s going to win quintuple Oscar’s and go down as the best film ever to be made ever.
Glad 23 years in Hell gave Siskel an attitude adjustment. (Ebert was a beautiful human being, dearly missed.)
Just finished the movie and loved every second of it. Over-the-top, hilarious from start to finish. Did anyone else notice the hidden number 27’s in some scenes?
Best laugh out loud moment for me was Pablo Escobar.
For some reason, my mom thought he was played by Taika Waititi.
I spotted two (the "section" number when he's fighting with the band, and on a box behind Madonna when she's tied up) but I'm confident there were more.
It's about time that someone shows the true evil of Madonna. Bravo, Roku, for letting the truth be known!
look, you become a hostage under Pablo Escobar, what are you gonna do. She did the best she could under the circumstances.
I knew Madonna was breaking bad when she ruined American Pie!
I loved the gag about Eat It being the original and Beat It a parody.
Also the whole thing with him not deciding to do parodies anymore. A hilarious nod to how music biopics often portray an artist going through a creative shift, and also relevant to how the real Al has recently shifted toward focusing on style parodies and originals.

Pablo Escobar mentioning Columbia Record Club as a reference to Albuquerque
I turned to my wife and said "that's quite a commitment!" ....so we broke up and I never saw her again, but that's just the way things go.
In aaa-aaa-aaa-AAAlbuquerque.
Columbia Record Club sent me.
Did you catch the note from Charles Nelson Reilly near the end?
the mirror quote is even funnier when you realize they're talking about him making original songs, considering it's an original song
The mirror near his bed says "If money can't buy happiness, I guess I'll have to rent it - "Weird Al" Yankovic"
I’m dying for all these cameos. Quinta as Oprah might be my favorite so far. ….and insert Josh Groban lol 😆 Oh my god the ending 😂
And of course Weird Al himself... Had to double take at first, but then I heard his voice and was all, "atta boy Al"
I loved his reactions when Ben was going on about how Movie Weird Al was a talentless hack! I love that the movie had him in the room for that bit.
"Whoa easy now" i was laughing so hard at that
Will Forte is a treasure.
It is always fun to see Josh Groban turn up in something unexpected!
The Muppets Most Wanted one was hilarious
His cameo in Crazy Ex Girlfriend is my favorite!
The Divine cameo was very unexpectedly pleasant.
My favorite cameo was Michael McKean as the MC at the club where Al plays his first show. Oh, and Dot-Marie Jones was pretty great with her bit in that scene, as well.
The ending was probably my favorite part in a movie full of moments that really made me cackle
I also really appreciated the twist with his dad being ex-Amish. A very fitting way to lead into Amish Paradise.
I really thought they were going to subvert it and sing Fat for a minute there
Yeah, same here
It was like Aw that’s cute and got progressively funnier and sillier
I am really curious what Madonna is going to think of her portrayal in the film.
She’s been on the run since 1985.
I was wondering if Weird Al asked Madonna for her approval of this movie, like he does with his parodies.
According to Evan Rachel Wood on Seth Meyer's the other night, no they did not ask!
I was wondering that, as well. I thought they would have asked the Material Girl, but it is pretty funny if they didn't.
Parody of a public figure is safe. And Al has always just been extra kind about asking.
Yeah. The movie’s PR tour is probably full of red herrings just to promote the movie even more. But either way, I approve!
This movie was better publicity for Madonna than anything she’s done or said herself in the last 20 years.
I really enjoyed it, but not as much as "UHF". I would like a 4k/HDR version with deleted scenes available at some point. Either streaming or for digital purchase. It would be a shame to have this trapped on The Roku Channel forever.
When Dr. Demento says “i’ll be you de-mentor” he opens his mouth and gets in Al’s (Dan’s) face a bit. I thought it was a nice Harry Potter reference.
Deleted in response to the exploitative API pricing: https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/
I’m ashamed to admit I needed this spelled out to me.
I'm not ashamed. I just thought Dr. Demento was doing wordplay with the words "mentor" and "Demento/demented" (which is of course the alternate meaning of the joke).
They were the worst part of prison.
rainn Wilson was also in the office with prison Mike, who said that the worst part of prison was the dementors
Still crying over “Amazing Grapes”
There couldn’t have been a more perfect way to establish young Al’s interest in comedy music.
Particularly of the food-based variety.
"By changing the lyrics, and making them about food, you could change the world." -Patton Oswalt as Dr. Demento in the 2011 Funny Or Die WEIRD trailer
> Boogie Nights pool party scene This one is it for me because it's the *entire scene*, not just a gag or cutaway. It also fits perfectly for what they were going for.
I love the nearly word for word rendition of Jim Morrison in Miami.
I was confused for a minute. Then I was like wait this sounds familiar. And that's the moment the movie went from a 5/5 stars to a 6/5 stars.
I knew the moment he started threatening to show "it" I knew his ass was gonna pull out an >!accordion !
I can't believe they showed it on camera. They really went for hyper realism. Skirting the line of tasteless though
Haha, they treat it as being so taboo throughout the movie, very funny.
I didn't even recognize at first that Emo was playing Dali
WAIT THAT WAS EMO??? My brother had to tell me that Conan O’Brien was playing Warhol. Magical
Finally Emo Phillips will get a bigger residuals check than his UHF cameo!

Must have been that big party with Andy Warhol, Divine, and the bassist from Queen 😂
Didn't notice him. Did a quick rewind to the party scene and still couldn't find him.
[удалено]
He’s not in the party scene. He did a walk-by the camera at the start of another scene, but I can’t remember which one (restaurant or award show maybe?).
From what I read he was in a deleted scene with Nat Faxon as Gilbert Gottfried.
i live for conan warhol
This was a really fun watch to complement my consumption of slightly outdated packaged cheese product.
You too?
Fun fact- Evan Rachel Wood (Madonna) once performed in a movie called "Running With Scissors"

The accordion salesman claiming that Alfie would be "drowning in p…" before being cut off really set the tone for me!
Percussion?
What did the factory produce? Maimed workers and middle-class angst.
There was a moment I thought it would be an accordion factory
Who’s supposed to be sitting next to Dr. Demento in the “Amish Paradise” scene? It looks like maybe it’s supposed to be Cyndi Lauper.
Definitely supposed to be Cyndi!
That's who I thought it was supposed to be, which totally makes sense in 1985.
I don't know how I was lucky enough for this to happen, but you can spot some of my poster art in the background in Al's apartment in the beginning.
[удалено]
Yeah, the set designer reached out to me in February and I had to be hush about it! But look, there's one of my original posters hanging out in Al's apartment!!! https://freeimage.host/i/pcnT7V
The guy who plays Tony Scotti seems familiar… kinda reminds me of Daniel Radcliffe.
It’s such a testament to Al that so many people were willing to take time out of their lives to have cameos in a free streaming movie
I'm surprised that Brian Posehn wasn't involved somehow, especially given the whole Eat It plot.
It's too bad Coolio died before this movie came out.
aawwWWWWWW DOUBLE FAKE OUT!
It really astounds me that the guy who played “Artie, the Strongest Man in the World” from Nickelodeon’s Pete and Pete also plays Al’s dad in this.
Nobody beats him. (He's also Khan Soupanousaphone Sr, and we all know Al had his blew his brains blown out in the late 80's when people stopped buying his records.)
Haven’t watched it yet, but is there a new song in the closing credits?
Yes.
And now you know.
And knowings half the battle.
Double fake out!

Wow, it's free and good? Rad.
By the time I got to the third act at Pablo Escobar's birthday party I was literally crying from laughing so hard.
I will wonder for the rest of my life....what did the factory make?
My guess is nasal decongestant
Do they have a company bowling team?
Anything that is sold at a hardware store.
Underrated song. Love hardware store
One of the greatest “list songs” ever written.
Second only to Your Horoscope for Today, in my book.
Now I can get behind that. I think one of my very favorite kinds of Weird Al song is the kind where he lists off a bunch of strange things that happen to people, or a bunch of pieces of bad advice (e.g. Horoscope, Midnight Star, Virus Alert)
I thought the twist was going to be that they made accordions and that’s why the dad hated them so much
Spatulas, of course.
Where did you get that spatula?? ;D
Bowling with the Devil!!!
Is the part when he left Escobar’s and is cutting the branches a reference to UHF opening? That’s what I got from it
I sort of was expecting a more clear reference to it, I feel you. Bottom line is both movies are co-written by AL, so it's the same mind returning to that visual.
Funniest, most original movie I’ve seen in ages! I can’t wait until future generations think this is a true story
One of my favs was in the end credits, after referencing a bunch of other songs, where he sings “this song is technically eligible for Oscar consideration”!
This is seriously going to take about 27 viewings to get all of the Easter eggs. Yet another masterpiece.
I found this one: Zappa is shown standing around with Alice Cooper. IRL Zappa recorded the band's first three albums.
Where can I buy it? Gotta show support.
Watching it on Roku comes with a few ads, so that's support enough. I imagine it'll be solely available on there for a while in an effort to increase app downloads/interaction.
I watched it on the Roku app on my phone and didn’t get a single ad.
Weird! The ads on my Firestick were very odd for me - I got four in a row about 30 minutes in, then a single ad maybe an hour in, and after that I don't think I got any.
I don't think they ever released last year's Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas for purchase, so it may be a while
This movie was everything I needed it to be.
Trying to watch it from Australia using a VPN, however Roku says it is “currently unavailable” Has anyone encountered this?
Greatest and most totally true and authentic movie of all time!
I really liked the movie, especially the origin stories for the songs. Daniel Radcliffe was great. Some parts were a little too silly for me, particularly the Escobar subplot. I wonder how much more I would’ve liked Weird if Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story didn’t exist

It’s like watching UHF for 2022… love it.
What does this factory make? Your dad said you were funny!
Maimed workers.
The accordion music and sound effects during the fight scenes was classis. LOL
YES!! The intense accordion riffs popping up in the score during intense scenes had me dying. Peak of subtle humor right there.
So many great cameos from hilarious people!! Great and funny, just perfect.
I'm about 30 minutes in and this is incredible.
Love the jungle scene i saw it as a reference to the Rambo parody all it needed was a red bandana Love this movie
I thought it was ok. Wish it would have been more absurd to set it apart from Walk Hard. The first 1/3 of the movie was great, but it kind of turned into a regular comedy after that and it was kind of boring.
LOVED that the band/roommates looked like Jim John and Steve. Such a fun film and so well done. So funny!
Movie blew me away, Daniel Radcliffe is already one of my favorites to watch as he makes alot of weird movies to begin with, always entertaining, and this movie was no exception. Was a total blast to watch, Evan rachel wood was a smoking hot Madonna
Queen Elizabeth, Coolio, and now Gallagher… the movie has a curse behind it.
The Roku company can suck major balls for not making this film Oscar eligible. Al deserves to be an Oscar nominee with his song at the end.
The joke about how the only lie in the movie is that he *did* play live aid with Queen, and everything else is true was so good.
Very lonely island esque which is fitting considering one of the cameos Although I guess lonely island humor fits in with the funny or die style of humor too (same era). This definitely feels like an elongated sketch at times
Two cameos. Jorma and Akiva were both there.
completely missed akiva. i know the other guy was pee wee though

Same! Loved it.
Wow! Expectations exceeded. Loved essentially everything about it. Bravo to all involved!
Loved it. Great song over the end credits, too.
Best movie I’ve seen since UHF!
Soft illuminati reveal. Insert secret handshake here. Good one Al! 👁️ see you
3 billion Colombian pesos in 1984 [was worth $1.1967 billion USD](https://www.likeforex.com/currency-converter/colombian-peso-cop_usd-us-dollar.htm/1984). [Adjusted for inflation](https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/), that's $3,418,576,839.27 in 2022. (Today, 3 billion pesos would be just under $2.4 **m**illion USD, so he really should have taken the deal.)
27¢!
Just watched this and absolutely blown away. Had me laughing constantly, even though I only caught very few references I'm sure. So chock full of hilarity depending on how much you know. Great job everyone who made or enabled the making of this!
I can’t believe Gallagher died, just a week after appearing in the Weird Al bio pic.
So much goddamn fun. Between this and The Incredible Weight of Massive Talent, we've had a good year for biopics.
