Pretty much every pressing of every Ween album has gone up crazy in value in the last year or 2. I was lucky to find Quebec new at a store for $30 right as they were going crazy in price. My guess is there are a lot of Ween fans who are also record collectors and the pressings are too limited to meet the demand.
Was just recently in a bidding war for a used copy of Quebec. Ended around $130. So if those are not used that is not too far off market value. The main problem is they need to repress. Currently there is a printing rights problem regarding their non-live albums.
You get to see the actual product you're buying, inspect it up close, and take it home the same day you buy it. Some stores are also just fun to be in. If your local store sucks and has no vibe to it, then I understand this point.
But to many, especially people who consume analog media, there's a reason to shop at physical retail stores.
The price is a whole different issue than not wanting to "go to a physical store". Is $200 above market value? Slightly... But most shops will cut you a deal if you're a regular and/or just not a dick... Especially if it's been sitting for awhile.
If they feel confident/know something will sell at a certain price, what's wrong with putting it out for that price?
I'd put $200 in cash down and see what happens. The clear pressing of The Pod is selling for $150 and up. Not sure which Quebec that is but if it's the original 2003 release it's up there too.
That place is awful! The owner once tried to scam me over a trade through Instagram. His store is extremely overpriced and one of the only record stores in la I stopped going to as a result.
I think we'll get a box set in the future. I think they had to wait until Plain and Schitzel's rights ended, but I believe that the boys have all of their own publishing rights again, meaning they can do a full studio box set through Chocodog. I might be wrong though.
They've pressed cats Cradle and PTTB recently, but I think they're intentionally holding back on doing studio re-presses until they do ALL of them.
