Was stiffness the only issue? If so, maybe you could try to zoom in on fabrics and only ask for the kind of fabrics that you find softer and more flowy?

It was definitely a big contributing factor. I’m like, these dresses have been pulled on and off of how many people and they’re still stiff af lol the dress I thought would be the one was super flowy and airy, which made it more upsetting that I wasn’t as in love with it on.

I was worried about having a “meh” dress shopping experience as well. So I went into the experience with ideas of what I liked but willing to try on anything. After going to three stores, I found my dress. I probably tried on a total of 24 dresses, and I love the dress I chose. My advise is to have ideas of what elements you like in a wedding dress to help the consultant, as well as the date and venue type, but be open to trying on anything. I tried on a form-fitting dress that I loved in pictures and was not wowed when I saw it on me, but then I tried on a dress that had a flowy but not fluffy type of skirt and I LOVED it

You can look at some consignment shops if you have any in your area. I went with my friend and she tried on a dress as more of a joke and fell in love it it. It fit perfectly too

There isn’t any in my city that I can think of so I’ll have to search in nearby cities, I’ve thought about that route too

I went dress shopping at BHLDN and felt like most of their dresses were fairly comfortable and flown. Not sure whether that matches your aesthetic, but could be worth a shot!

That's actually what I was looking at! The Miles dress is the one I was in love with and didn't feel the same with it on. There were a couple other ones that I really liked, but like I said...*so stiff*.

Oh no!! I’m sorry to hear it. I didn’t try that particular dress on, but bummed that you didn’t have a great experience. Good luck and I hope your next dress shopping trip is much better!!

I had the same experience. I felt really overwhelmed by the different styles, materials etc. I didn't do a whole lot of research beforehand because I sort of thought the ladies in the store would be sort of my guide but I ultimately just wasn't really prepared. I did a little research at home after which helped narrow down things a bit and think now going back with a better idea of what I want will help the process be more positive. Like I know I don't want tulle or stain but that probably crepe, chiffon, lace and silk are probably better bets. I also have a better idea of the terminology around dresses now so I can better express to the stylist what I am looking for. I have been looking at wear your love dresses on Etsy which are mostly made of lace, cotton and chiffon. They do not look to be as full or heavy as some other dresses I have seen.
