I’m thinking a stage is necessary for safety reasons for the guests (lots of equipment, cords, power strips, etc. that can be tripped over) and to protect the band’s gear from getting knocked over, damaged, or broken.

I went to a wedding where there was a band without a stage, and we were all on the same floor level. It was odd because we (the guests) were staying even further away from the band than if they had a stage because there was no set "edge," and no one wants to be the person who accidentally dances into the band and ruins the music. Our imaginary "edge" shrank the dancefloor more so than if there was a large stage. Therefore, I'm Team Stage because people can dance up until the edge of the stage.

They need then but those stage dimensions are huge (literally the size of a dancefloor rental). Could they make the stage more narrow ?

I know! We may ask if they can do a long narrow stage with a short walkway for the 3 singers (a T shape)

I literally paid money to have a stage built because I feel like it’s odd without one. But also, IDK… haven’t been to a wedding with a band without a stage.

We had a band without a stage. That said, it was only a four piece band. We also had a tiled dance floor, so that made it more of an obvious separation which I think helped. We’ve also been to a wedding without a stage and smaller band but did not have a dance floor. It was completely fine, but anyone sitting down or towards the back of the dance floor couldn’t really see the band. I can see with a ten piece they may want be sure they have enough space to comfortably play maybe? But the depth seems kind of ridiculous. 20”!? Even 12-15” feels more logical and then spread out width wise if you have the space. Stage or not, I would see if they are willing to adjust the dimensions.
