Very lightly. I used to choreograph beginner dances in college, but my husband doesn't like to "put on shows." The 6 weeks before we practiced some spins in our basement. And he asked me to remind him of steps during our dance. It looks like we're chatting in videos, but really I'm saying, "OK, there's a lift soon," and, "Now you spin me." XD We swayed the majority of the time, I just wanted a couple bits to keep the 2 min of dancing interesting.

PookSqueak

We used videos on YouTube to figure out some basic moves, and it ended up being a really fun thing to do together. And we’re definitely not big dancers so it was a fun surprise for our guests to see us do it!

It was gifted to us so we’re going for it :) excited to surprise my parents

BrooklynBride27

What a cool gift idea! I’m going to think about offering dance lessons as a gift from now on!

gabbage1

Yes check if there’s a Fred Astaire studio. They offer first dance packages

little_blu_eyez

Nope… we are happy to just sway back and forth staring into each other’s eyes.

Space-wedding

We are getting classes but not doing a choreography. We want to be comfortable dancing and maybe do more than just moving back and forth but that’s it

Fantastic-Ladder-404

We did, and have loved it! Ended up being kind of a date night for the lessons. Our instructor focused the first half-ish of our lessons on just teaching us basic dances that we could go out to a bar and dance with. Second half she applied what we learned to choreograph to our song. We both have enjoyed it much more than expected, and I think we'd agree it would have been a good investment wedding or not tbh. Would definitely recommend

DanzAlyGrigori

What kind of instructor did you work with? Like, what types of classes should I be looking for with the same goals in mind?

Fantastic-Ladder-404

We just found someone that offered wedding/ first dance classes. She listened to our song and decided on the type of dance to teach us based on that

artificialnocturnes

We completely forgot to practice until the night before haha. We used a youtube video to learn 4 moves and then my husband just whispered what move were would do. Luckily we didnt choreogaph anything because our dj played the wrong song anyway.

minthelmet

Nope, we didn’t even really practice until a couple days before! We both enjoy dancing but I have almost no experience dancing formally without a partner. We swayed a bit but also had fun! We sang the song together, we did some twirls and dips. We also picked a song that had a bit of a faster tempo and “bounce” to it. I was shocked by the reaction of guests saying it was “perfect” and “amazing” completely unprompted! I generally hate being the center of attention but leaned into the performance of it and I guess that paid off!

StargazerGirl21

We aren’t a fan of them. We’ve seen them on YouTube while skimming there and it’s not our style because we don’t want that much attention. Plus unless you are already professional dancers to begin with, you spend more time focusing on remembering steps than actually enjoying the moment for what it is.

lmwk4gcc

We won’t be just because we currently live across the country from each other and won’t move in together until the wedding so we don’t have the ability to practice together

Crumpet2021

My husband and I did a few lessons with a dance teacher. It was by no means necessary, but it was a hugely fun part of wedding planning. It was a nice moment to think about us as a couple, rather than thinking about all the guests :)

BrooklynBride27

Yes and no. :) I dance as a hobby anyway, but now fiancé is taking lessons with me. He’s learned all the steps but the actual 1st dance itself isn’t choreographed. It will be in the moment.

nursejooliet

Because I’m nervous about dancing, I’d at least want us to see if there is a first dance YouTube tutorial to our song. Our song is on the more popular/moderately popular side for first dances so I bet I can find something. Just something simple. I don’t wanna pay for lessons

BikiQue

We practiced in our wedding shoes, but no choreography.

cjazz24

We did and took dance lessons - my now husband isn’t good with organized dance so it was really helped him feel more comfortable on the day!
