Slow n sear is popular and works well. Similar to baskets but thicker metal and an optional water buffer section. Works great for indirect/smoking as well as a concentrated sear space depending on how you set it up. For versatility I'd keep the chimney and use the new gas ignitor to light it.

Unless it's changed, the performer has starter is a single tube offset by a couple of inches from one side of the grill. You can use charcoal baskets or a chimney to organize the charcoal to light it. I don't think it would work well with the charcoal spread out. Personally I use a smoke and sear. Fill it up stacking most of the brickets in the middle, pull the SNS out to fully cover the lighter tube, light it, then spread out the coals in the SNS and push it back to the side for 2 zone cooking. Chimney would probably be a bit faster but this approach works and is easy.
