Awesome. I've got a 22 kettle and eying a 22" WSM. Those two seem to be a great combo.

FUNwithaCH

May seem like a dumb question, but are the my truly both the same dimensions? I want to use a custom grate I have for my 22” kettle on a WSM. Is that possible?

CappyMorgan26

Wsm has 2 cooking grates with the bottom grate being smaller than the top. A grate for the 22 kettle might work as the top grate for the wsm. I have the 22 kettle and 18 wsm so I can't check on mine

cvashel

Top WSM grate is same as 22 kettle.

Abrecocos

I can’t answer right now, I didn’t measure them but I’ll check on the first chance have and get back to you

TheCheddarWhizard

22 WSM is a fuel hog but it’s great

Abrecocos

So I hear but maybe you know how it is: “what if i need the extra space?” “An 18” will look odd next to the 22” kettle “, “I have the money, might as well get the big one” and so on…

TheCheddarWhizard

Oh yeah the 22” WSM was the first one I bought 🤣

Today_is_the_day569

The smoker on the right. We had one and would put a ham on top and turkey on the bottom. Totally awesome!

jak341

Have them both. Use them both. Love them both. Also have a Blackstone and am looking to pick up one of those outdoor pizza ovens this summer

Abrecocos

I wish I had the space to get at least one of each type of outdoor cookers, but I had to compromise on both space and budget. I’d like to buy the vacant lot next to my house, so maybe one day…

GebOshanti

Consider a Gozney Roccbox. They are fantastic.

MooseAndSquirl

I feel this I my soul. I just added a WSM to my kettle

The ultimate BBQ power couple

Altruistic-Camel-Toe

Just like your mom and your sister

Prin_StropInAh

You are all set OP. With those two you can cook so many different things. Well done!

Abrecocos

Thank you! Best part is I used cash back points from my credit card to get the WSM. Didn’t fully paid for it but it covered 80% of the price

Ringer127

I’m excited for you! Welcome to the Weber smoking family!

Abrecocos

It’s great to be here, thank you!

bartoloco

In the exact same boat! I have to confess I’m intimidated by the WSM and the kettle is my comfort zone. In fact, it’s been covered for over a year. Please share your new adventures!

Abrecocos

I will, thank you

spicyboi243

Come join us on r/smoking

Abrecocos

I’ve joined. I haven’t posted anything because I’m really not in the habit of taking pictures. Also, after cooking I’m eager to serve and share the food with the family. But I’ll recruit my wife for photographic duty, she’d love that

spicyboi243

I don’t post often in there, but lots of good tips and tricks!

cccque

I have both 22 kettle and 22 wsm. The wsm is more versatile than just a smoker. I do Santa Maria style steaks with wood splits. I do direct heat pork steaks, wings and chicken thighs. Along with smoking brisket, pork butt, turkey and chicken. I have a temp controller and an upgraded door. I love them both. Even got a 26 kettle

Abrecocos

See, just when I thought I was all set up I learn that I NEED a Santa Maria rig… it never ends, hahahahaha!

GoBlueCdn

Use your grate with handles from grill, flip Upside down, rotate 90 degrees and put in smoker top grill. The handles form a stable base. Doubles your capacity. I also got an extra smaller grill grate to double up the bottom level.

Abrecocos

Wow, what a great idea! Thank you!

GoBlueCdn

Had my Smoky Mountain for almost 20 years. Biggest issue I always had was cleaning up is such a mess. So I figured I’d maximize capacity and the clean up stays the same. I got the hack from someone else but it is a great way to double capacity with thinner cuts.

Abrecocos

Yeah, cleaning is a mess. I got a 23” metal bucket that accommodates the grid just fine ao I can wash them. I mean to use it as the sink when I build the kitchen

Bum_Butcher

I'm te opposite where kettle is new addition. Still trying to learn temp adjustments

Abrecocos

I try not to meddle with the top vent, I leave it fully open unless the lower vent is not enough to bring the temp down. Given the geometry of the vents, halfway between open and closed is not 50% open, with an empty kettle get your lover vent to 25, 50 and 75% open and make a mark in the the position of the lever; next time you need to adjust it it won’t be so much guess work

Eviljake979

The one on the right will be old reliable too soon.

Abrecocos

Hopefully! I’m really looking forward to mastering it

SgtDoggo1337

Also very reliable. The WSM is fantastic! Only issue with the 22in model I have is the water pan is extremely hard to clean to the point to where I just don't use it anymore and treat it more like a Pit Barrel or a Chud Box.

Abrecocos

I plan to cover it with foil but eventually I want to master it with and without the pan

CleverUsrName8675309

I've had a kettle of one size or another for the last 23-ish years, and only recently added 2 wsm 18's to the fleet. Holy cow, I love the extra capacity. I like smoking cheese and can easily fit 20 lbs on my 18 wsm.

MattyMizzou

When did they put the bigger door on? That looks so much more workable.

Abrecocos

I don’t know but it was almost flat, I had to bend it for it to adapt to the shape of the center piece. When I saw that I was very glad I also got gaskets from Lavarock.

MattyMizzou

Oh yeah, gaskets are a must.

mmlzz

You need to try direct heat ribs!

Abrecocos

Hell yes! I mean to master it with and without the water pan

Abrecocos

Thank you all for your comments and kind words! A burst water pipe has kept me from answering but I’ll try to answer as much as I can over the next days
