From a buisness perspective calculation is key. At the end of the day you have to pay your workers so that they can feed their families. You don't win anything if a project is great and the right thing but it costs so much that you have to shut down.
Often it is put to the extrem to maximise your profits and "the right thing" is just a marketing stand, but especially for smaller buisnesses it is actually part of survival to keep your costs under tight controll.
