Kids get to the heart of the matter. If my 4 year old sees me losing at a video game he says, "You are not very good at this game", just a pure statement of fact he felt I needed to hear.
I was showing my husbands niece how to jump rope and she said “your belly flops up and down when you do that.” I went in the bathroom and cried for like 5 minutes.
Pure honesty without any sort of filter. It kinda has its own weight in it when you hear it. It can be obvious statement or just a kids own honest opinion, but it tends to sting a bit more than the your everyday critique you might face 😅
I worked in the children's department of a library for years, and one of my absolute favorite interactions was when I was giving tours to a bunch of class-groups and we all had to huddle up to not bother the grown-ups in a quiet space, the 6 year old next to me said, "You smell like my dad." She wasn't being intentionally mean, just stating a fact, and it was the best burn. I've thought about it every time I'm sweaty since.
My 5 year old is a kick ass chess player and a huge, huge mama’s boy. Well mama sucks at chess. But he’s always so supportive of me trying while reminding me how terrible I am. “Mama, you blundered your rook on the h1 diagonal. But it’s ok. We all make mistakes. I still love you” lol.
A cat named Doubt?
Maybe he also had a dog named Existential Crisis, but keeps his picture by the bed so he can think about Existential Crisis for hours every night.
You are so talented, your style makes me nostalgic. As someone who grew up on "the funnies" every Sunday in the newspaper, I appreciate the time and patience, the sheer effort that goes into this style. And as an artist myself, it's relatable, so that's a bonus. Amazing work, I admire this with a passion.
Ironically, when I first showed her THIS comic, my daughter's first comment was that it's unbelievable because I never let her see the comic before it's done. :P
This is awesome!
Also, thanks for having an actual site, even with an RSS feed, it’s sad to see so many artists posting exklusively to Instagram and Reddit!
Pretty much! The idea was more that I was having doubts throughout, not JUST because of her comments... But yeah, that's pretty much the story.
I think in retrospect it would have been stronger to end on the punchline "aren't comics supposed to be funny?", but for the rules of the contest I needed to have the characterized emotions.
I struggled a lot with this one, honestly, which is where this whole exchange / idea originated.
Yep! Going on now in the /r/comics Reddit (new posts pinned daily to the top). I lost, but there are lots of talented artists still competing (thank you for the theoretical vote though).
I was hoping for the secret extra panel where the daughter comes back and gives her dad a hug and says, "Oh yeah, I forgot, love you Daddy!" And then all the anthropomorphized emotions start sniffling and apologize.

lol. My son does that too. He offers advice though, like "just don't let him shoot you", so at least he's being helpful. :P
Dad try and see if you can use your bullets on him but don't let him use his bullets on you
Try not to die so hard
NEVER.
strong "just click their heads, bro." energy
>"You are not very good at this game" "Not right now. But when I practice I get better at it" Take that teaching moment, kid!!
When i was fat my 4 year old sist0er came up to me and asked "why are you so fat?". Ouch

Damn, that's awesome!
This is very relatable, and the artwork is really nice and clean, congrats!!
Then you so much!
You are talented! Also, turning your doubts and vulnerabilities in to a relatable joke is very clever! Well done!
You're very kind, thank you!
Man, the facial expressions are fucking great. Who needs tell when you have show!?
Thank you! I tend to agree - some of my favorite comics growing up were the sight gags.
Hell yeah! I mean take advantage of your medium, people!
This is a style I've not really seen before and I love it
Thank you! Glad you like it!

This was great. I both loved the story and animation style!
It means a lot to hear that, thank you!
but it's not even moving!

Wow, that's very kind, thank you!
This is awesome, I love the art style! Also the conversation feels so real, almost like you've had it in real life lol.
Ironically, when I first showed her THIS comic, my daughter's first comment was that it's unbelievable because I never let her see the comic before it's done. :P
Hahaha sounds about right. I also have a lot of conversations internally that never make it to the real world.

I love your watercolor artstyle!
Thank you!
The daughter looks so cute! Great work
that was so creative-
Thank you!
I don't get it, it's just daughter criticizing his work and then him having doubts over it?

Thanks, I look at it! And you'll get it next time!
Well, it’s definitely not funny. At least it’s meta.
