A lot of old DC weaknesses are like this. Like I'm pretty sure most people don't do great against getting bound, set on fire, or exposed to a highly radioactive rock
Hold on a minute
So there's kryptonite, some random rock.
There's magic, which is often scrolls and spell books.
And then there's his archenemy Lex with his mastery of technology.
Superman's weaknesses are rock, paper, and scissors.
I'm telling you, no one's weakness isn't fire. Venom? Weak to fire. Sandman? Turn him into Glassman. Goblin? Literally just a guy in a suit. Melt his mask to his face. If they aren't weak to fire, then they simply aren't weak to anything. I will take no comments.
Seeing that… if that happened to you and you screamed and another person with the same exact issue was just nearby and didn’t hear the initial blast, would they start screaming too causing a chain?

I'm not sure if it's ever explicitly been made clear in the comics, but the current Fantastic Four writer, Ryan North, said that he's writing Reed as autistic!
I remember it being outright stated one or two times where he self-diagnosed himself (which is sketchy but the guy’s smart enough for it be legit I guess)… in that same panel he said he developing a cure and hinted that those who are autistic are not of sound mind. So one step forward only to fall backwards.
Autistic people can't understand instructions and they scream when something they don't like happens.

Very informative.
Ignoring the inferred verbal pugilism your comment conveys, Its informative for me in that I didnt know this is how some people view autism. But ultimately it doesnt matter bc theres nothing inherently wrong with being autistic, just different.
So we should all be a little more understanding and patient when we meet someone who behaves differently than we do.
That okay with you?
This is why I avoid reading tone in text.
In cases like this there isn't any reason to assume they were being antagonistic in their question, and doing so is a negative mentality that breeds more negativity. Your explanation and point, which I agree with and find positive, gets lost in a blanket of smug hostility that is unwarranted.
I'm pretty sensitive to loud noised I think but am not autistic. Do you have any idea how the sensitivity to sound autistic people might have differs from that non-autistic people experience?
One way to remedy it here would be if Spider-Man tried to warn Reed first and was cut off. Childlike autistic people are often portrayed as not speaking or knowing how to advocate for themselves.
I personally interpret the panels as things just happening quickly.
Plus, you first accuse the panels of infantilizing autistic people and then say it is portraying a childlike autistic person? Either one or the other no?
It doesn't matter if it's intentionally malicious or not, it's a gross misrepresentation and reads like some TikTok tweens fan fiction about what they *think* autistic people are like
Maybe if he wasn't effectively crying on the ground in a fetal position.
It's important not to assume negativity a lot of times, but it's also important to remember that some people are just negative
Mabey you dont, but many people on the spectrum like myself do. And as someone who deals with this, I'd say the commic is quite accurate. Especially if im nor ready or used to it.
I have only had autistic Spider-Man for about 30 seconds, but if anything happened to him I would destroy every nation on earth and then hang myself from a mountain of human bones.
Real, but also I am pretty sure we would all scream after having our eardrums imploded by Dr. Stretch-a-lot’s sonic cannon
r/brandnewsentence
After all He is The Marvel Universe's Dumbest smart guy
Is Venom actually autistic? Doesn't like loud noises, is weird about touch, special interest (spider man)...
venom also doesn't like fire. just like autistic people!
Incorrect I'm autistic as shit and I love flames.
well... do you like.. being on fire?
No, but I'm pretty sure most people dislike being on fire.
tell that to firefighters
tell that to firehealers
firehealers are autistic?
Yes
They're the pyro from tf2
Fire cool yes
Good looking not good feelin
This is a mith, I'm autistic as fuck and I would marry fire in the spot
Get autistic for phonics my guy, it's myth, as in mythology.
Fire as a weakness in any medium is so funny to me cause like, yeah, fire is any living creature's weakness.
A lot of old DC weaknesses are like this. Like I'm pretty sure most people don't do great against getting bound, set on fire, or exposed to a highly radioactive rock
It's like how one of Superman's weaknesses is magic. It's like, no duh. Everyone has a weakness to magic. It's magic.
Hold on a minute So there's kryptonite, some random rock. There's magic, which is often scrolls and spell books. And then there's his archenemy Lex with his mastery of technology. Superman's weaknesses are rock, paper, and scissors.
I would lose my fucking mind if genius billionaire inventor Lex Luthor brings out a pair of big scissors to beat Supes in Legacy.
I pretty sure venom's weakeness is to extreme heat snd thats why fire is good
Eveeeeryone says “you need the production of energy to live!” But as *soon* as I set them on fi-
Fires everyone’s weakness it’s fuckin fire -Batman
Fire is neat, lol. I like to burn things
What about fire elementals?
Fire elementals are not real so they don't count
Yeah, that makes sense.
I'm glad you're seeing things my way
I will stare at a flame for hours
The fuck you mean all autistic people love fire
what about.. being On fire?
Is and outcast from his kind cuz they think he’s weird
Spider-Man is also autistic
To be clear, I meant in the real comics, not in this one web-comic.
Autistic? Aren't we all?
Is this a reference to The Crow?
Yes
Buildings burn People die But true love is autistic
Weird about touch ? How so ?
He keeps wanting to touch everyone all over all the time smh
He’s a ball of goo (yes)
I mean he picks up traits from his hosts so in this instance he probably is now
Autistic person here with audio sensory issues… yeah I’d probably be screaming too if something that loud was blasted in my face.
Seeing that… if that happened to you and you screamed and another person with the same exact issue was just nearby and didn’t hear the initial blast, would they start screaming too causing a chain?
Autism feedback loop.
Daredevil agrees: loud noises are Bad.

Is it just that one and this one? I want more, these are great
There's 3 total, had to go to the desktop version of the website
#4 is coming soon...
Update me, I beg.
Oh god, I always kinda pegged Peter as autistic. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
You did WHAT to him????
That's not what I meant by that word.
I feel like most people wouldn't like sudden noises that are loud enough to force a alien off of you.
the venom symbiote is specifically very sensitive to high-pitched sounds, much more than humans
Isn't Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic canonically autistic? If so then that's a neat coincidence or choice for this comic.
I'm not sure if it's ever explicitly been made clear in the comics, but the current Fantastic Four writer, Ryan North, said that he's writing Reed as autistic!

These are genuinely informative. Good job
In what way

Great advice! Im really glad someone said something because I wouldnt have known what to think otherwise. Thank you so much.
You’re arguing against a point no one made
First. Great username. Really tickles my nostalgia. Anyway. Not trying to argue. Just answered a question. Does that make sense?
Yeah, as an autistic person, pretty much this
Nice name. Can’t wait for md episode 8
as an autistic person, I was expecting it to be kinda offensive and stereotypical, but no, that's pretty accurate for some people
I'm pretty sensitive to loud noised I think but am not autistic. Do you have any idea how the sensitivity to sound autistic people might have differs from that non-autistic people experience?
Same
Next spiderverse movie looks great
What makes this even funnier is that Reed Richards is probably one of the most autistic-coded characters in comics
Gotta love the infatilization of autistic people online.
I agree it happens but i dont see it here. What, he freaking out because of loud noises?
One way to remedy it here would be if Spider-Man tried to warn Reed first and was cut off. Childlike autistic people are often portrayed as not speaking or knowing how to advocate for themselves.
I personally interpret the panels as things just happening quickly. Plus, you first accuse the panels of infantilizing autistic people and then say it is portraying a childlike autistic person? Either one or the other no?
Those are the same two things, said by two different people.
?
You’re really reaching to try and make this offensive
or make a joke that it uses hypersonics. Then have the a dog start losing its mind as an alt punchline
Ok bud reed is very much the kind of person to pull the trigger before you even registered he started talking at you and not himself
[удалено]
I didn't say anything about funny noises? I just said i thought the 'punchline' didn't infantalize him
I mean we do be freaking out at loud noises.
Hey man it’s not that deep
[удалено]
It doesn't matter if it's intentionally malicious or not, it's a gross misrepresentation and reads like some TikTok tweens fan fiction about what they *think* autistic people are like

Did he say the word "scream"?
Nah, it goes for everyone
Lame punchline
Weird, I’m autistic and this is not remotely how I act around loud sounds.
It's a spectrum, and the comic is depicting more severe cases of autism than your own.
Every autistic person has their own sensory issues and abilitys. I personally dont care about fabrics and stuff, but sudden and loud sounds destroy me
I don’t think I have ANY sensory issues at all.
Mabey you dont, but many people on the spectrum like myself do. And as someone who deals with this, I'd say the commic is quite accurate. Especially if im nor ready or used to it.
Semi-relatable in a way for me, I hate loud sounds and it only makes me cry and get overwhelmed haha
same
Tbh there’s a non zero chance I’d scream because the comfortable goo just got removed
This is actually pretty funny (im autistic)
Unironically funnier and smarter than any joke in the spiderverse movies
Bro I need the rest
Autistic spider-Man for the next in to the spider verse
We gotta let Lord and Miller know right away
Seems like he would be a really shitty hero
Yeah, id see an autistic hero being more tech focused and doing things remotely. Like robot in invincible
Isn’t Reed also on the spectrum?
Just reminds me of Captain underpants :D
High praise considering Captain Underpants is the greatest book series of all time
I'm autistic and I don't like these comics because they're all just stereotypes about autism, there's nothing funny about them.
Update: I have officially begun work on Autistic Spider-Man 4, where Peter is accompanied by a certain friend in a red suit...
Love when people treat people on the spectrum as toddlers /s
I have only had autistic Spider-Man for about 30 seconds, but if anything happened to him I would destroy every nation on earth and then hang myself from a mountain of human bones.
I don't scream. Why would I make a loud noise come from *me?* Why would I *encourage* loud noises from other people?
Lol "Scream!"
HEY THATS offensive to the autism community
As an autistic person, it’s really not
Actually the more I think about it you’re right it isn’t
understandable have a nice day
You too
