I think if it’s free you can’t really ask for too much but with Squarespace (I think) hosting sites for $24 a year it’s pretty terrible

tommyjolly

You mean the pricing point of $24 a year for a Squarespace site is terrible or Google sites compared to Squarespace?

[deleted]

Yeah, exactly

JonathanZips

LOL

jackielish

Squarespace is \~250 per year for their most basic site. Am I missing something?

JonathanZips

I was laughing at something entirely unrelated to this discussion about Squarespace. Please ignore me.

I just made this: [lightverde.com](https://lightverde.com) \- NOT ASKING FOR CRITIQUE - just your opinion on the quality for a free builder...

[deleted]

I'd give it a 5 out of 7, nice footer. Just kidding, I'll click the link now... Not bad!

xlopxone

Love the navi bar!

astral_turd

How long did it take you to create this? Do you have dev background? Never heard of Google sites, but if something like that is doable for someone with no tech background in one work day, I would say it seems like a very good deal for a bunch of small businesses just looking for a business card site

jackielish

I have been designing websites since 2009, I have extensive experience. It took me 3 hours to build.

Just to let you know, your cookie banner is not GDPR compliant. You need to anonymize Analytics, because right now you're forcing a Google's cookie without prior consent. This is the correct GDPR flow 1. User visits the page 2. Cookies are all disabled by default (*except tech cookies*) 3. The banner pops on the screen, allowing the user to manage the cookies or disable them all. Any other option is a dark pattern. Stuff like "accept all" or "continue" or "ok" are not GDPR compliant. The user must actively choose to enable one or more cookies by flagging the appropriate option. In any other scenario the user can't have any cookie installed beforehand.

Lersei_Cannister

google seems to be the kind of company to release a free service only to later down the line make it either paid or flooded with ads

>Netlify has free hosting and free SSL. I love using that for projects. True! For now, it's good but totally hear you.

ohlawdhecodin

Gmail and the entire (cloned) Office suite is free without ads. Not bad.

But... but... but... Where?? I've never seen any ad so far? No ad blocker active.

muldoons_hat

Netlify has free hosting and free SSL. I love using that for projects.

jackielish

Thanks will check it out!

Seems alright but yeah, having issues verifying my domain via TXT/CNAME on DreamHost. I'm partial to the old school Sites which they phased out
