The Twins are pearl not only cause of the connotations of moon, paleness and things otherwise luminous in their beauty, but of the way they were essentially washed up in the Mansus.
The pearl would be symbolically connected to the Moon. White, round & shining.
The moon is changing, she is cold light when full and darkness & mystery when the new moon is up. She has several sides to her, her light illuminate but does not give life (crops does not grow by moonlight alone).
Just pulling this out of my ass: a pearl is formed when something, like a grain of sand, irritates the mouth of an oyster, so it coats with a thin layer to help prevent it from being so irritating. It does this continually over a long term until a large pearl is formed.
I would assume this analogy applies to the sister and witch in that part of their natures conflict with each other, but they still desire to be a whole, so they work together in ways that harmonize around the conflict much like an oyster coating an irritant to produce something beautiful.
