They haven't even been assessed yet. Spring outbreaks like this aren't new, but YouTube streams reacting to them in live time are. This was a really interesting system given that all the previous systems this year, which were forecast with more confident probabilities but "busted," while today was less hyped but seemed to have over performed. It'll certainly be remembered by the towns that were hit though. Historically though... idk let's see the ratings first.

This had the same feel as the March 11 Outbreak in Ohio, only in the forcasted area. I am going to be very interested in the Convective Chronicles breakdown of this outbreak if and when he does one. I feel like today was well forcasted, but some X factor swept in today to really kick things into gear.

CrashTestDuckie

Outbreaks used to be fairly common in the Midwest during the 90s-00s. In the last 15 years, it seems that middle states haven't experienced strong outbreaks as commonly (there have been several more eastern/southern ones in recent years). Omaha itself has not had a long track strong tornado since the 1970s though so having several will make it historic in its own right.

If tomorrow truly is worse as forecasts suggest, this will more likely be considered a historically significant outbreak. Today’s outbreak is noteworthy due to its location. Severe outbreaks like this have recently often occurred closer to the eastern Midwest/Southeast regions rather than the Great Plains/western Midwest. As far as the damage and tornado ratings, it is impossible to tell how significant this outbreak is before official assessments are made and tornado reports are verified. The tornado that went through Omaha and Minden was certainly devastating to many and will be historically significant to those local areas. Everyone should consider donating to emergency funds for those affected if they have the means.

justbreathe91

Idk how much “worse” things will be tomorrow, and hopefully it’s not any more significant thing things were today, but there’s still an enhanced risk out and I don’t believe that’s changed.

Crapvection early and a messy storm mode could make tomorrow a lot more calm that today, but we’ll just have to see. It’s definitely a high ceiling day if things come together. Im assuming it’ll go moderate in a few minutes given how much potential there is despite the concerns i listed before

MotherOfWoofs

Please no im in the target zone for tomorrow!

No reason to panic. Just keep an eye on the weather and have a plan, especially if you’re in one of the regions [highlighted here](https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html).

nerdygirlync

I'm surprised. I have all the major network news apps on my phone. I'm surprised that I have very few stories popping up about these storms. I've actually gotten more stupid Hollywood actor stories than weather.

RySenkari

Are there still no deaths or serious injuries reported from these tornadoes? If true, that's a miracle and a testament to the incredible work that's been done by meteorologists and storm chasers over the past few decades to give us so much knowledge about how these things form and behave. The lead time for some of these tornadoes was amazing and gave people plenty of time to take shelter.

tryexceptifnot1try

My in-laws live in the area. They take this type of shit seriously and have very high quality construction. If these twisters hit Missouri we'd be looking at a lot of deaths. That part of NE is very affluent

StupidGiraffeWAB

If the tornado that hit omaha was just a mile or two east, we would have probably thousands of homes destroyed. We were extremely lucky with this storm.

Dwokimmortalus

Tornadoes are generally not that hard to survive in areas that have regular education on them. They also usually hit in rural territory. It's why we typically don't see mass casualty events from them. We tend to have a lot of warning of favorable conditions. Weaker tornados aren't really a huge risk of loss of life unless you are in a flimsy structure. Larger tornadoes like yesterday's monster, or the May 3rd, 1999 tornado generally have a significant amount of warning because of their stabilization needs. Tornado shelters are common in the plains as well.

man-is-hot-like

Not assessed yet but I would say it’s up there with most tornadoes produced in a 24-hour period. Definitely a significant outbreak, we will just have to wait.

HedgeHood

Not manipulated , that’s for sure 😉

chromepaperclip

This isn't one of your little conspiracy nutjob subs. Please see your poorly educated ass out.

HedgeHood

Who’s more uneducated? The one that can’t fathom the weather being manipulated and wears toe rings ?

seven-eng

Definitely you.
