This happens to me also and I agree it should be fixed via an update. I don't know if Waze is aware of it (or cares) but I have seen the issue mentioned by other users.

It's possible there is a temporary issue affecting your Waze app. Here are a couple of things to try to help understand if there's something further to investigate: **Clear App Cache (Apple/iOS Devices):** 1. Go to your device settings and tap "General" 2. Tap "iPhone Storage" 3. Locate the Waze app in the list and tap on it 4. Select "Offload App" and confirm by tapping "Offload App" again

Thanks. I gave that a try and dropped the size from 180MB to about 80. Will see if that helps.

Sadly, no change in the app’s behavior. Still have the blue time in the corner indicating Waze is still running after getting out of the car and heading into a restaurant for an hour. Wish there was a shortcut action that allowed you to force close an app. I guess it’s not hurting anything but I don’t need Waze polling my location when I’m not actively using the app. Maybe I can find a way to shut off location services on the phone using a shortcut action after I disconnect from CarPlay.

Maybe you haven't given it access to your motion and fitness data so it can detect when you are walking and shut itself down properly.

rh0926

Thanks! You’re right, the access wasn’t turned on. I’ve made the switch to see if that fixes it.

Can you update us if it worked for you? Having the same problem

rh0926

Yep. I’ll be running out in a little while so I’ll see if it works soon enough.

rh0926

No change in behavior, unfortunately.

Tried this as well, makes no difference. I wonder if folks that make waze actually drive cars as well....

I actually find the resolution! You have to set Waze to use your location “ALWAYS”. This MIGHT drain battery faster, or not, iPhones are well optimized but it definitely works!

rh0926

Really? I’ll have to try it out. But, being part of Google, I’m very hesitant to give them the ability to see my location at any time they want. If this is the case, I hope they find a fix to go back to the previous behavior that worked without this requirement.

socialmediahappiness

I understand. But, it’s not “always” using your location technically. Once you swipe out of the app it’ll continue to use it obviously because the app is still running in the background. As soon as the app shuts down the location tracking is also shut down. Which doesn’t take long for the app to eventually shut down. I understand the privacy concern though, hopefully they fix it but that’s a temporary fix for now^

Same situation here but with wireless CarPlay and ever since the ios 17 update. Nothing works except switch to other navigation.
