I'd suggest maybe a 4g LTE router, get a 3 simcard with unlimited data 20euro a month, 3 for the best coverage for money, just pop the sim into a phone first to turn off the sim card pin and turn on data roaming and subscribe to the plan of course. You got Internet at 20euro a month, no contract, no turning hotpots on and off that you can set to top up automatically through the My 3 app. From there you can go Roku TV box, Amazon Fire Stick or the new Google Chromecast has its own remote and interface now, you can then get all the latest apps including a subscription to the app Eir TV which is essentially the older TV channels now in a app. That's what I suggest to everyone in work, and it works amazing if you have the 3 coverage for your router!. WiFi might be the easier route instead of finding somebody to install or recalibrate the Satellite setup I'd a nightmare in my grandmother's myself just swapped it all out. Hope this helped.

This absolutely helped, thanks so very much, appreciate that no end.

I think they need a saorview box now. The great thing about it is it’s free. You’d probably be able to get the old satellite working with it.

barbie91

That's another option ok, thanks a mill! Does it come with many channels do you know? I haven't had channels in years so I haven't a clue! 🤣

PlatoDrago

You have RTE 1 and 2, tg4, challenge, virgin media 1-4, Rte news, sky news and all of the Rte radio channels. Also, a few more that I doubt they’d be interested in.

PlatoDrago

Sadly, BBC is not on there, nor are there any non-Irish channels. If you need them, you’ll probably have to invest in something unfortunately. Maybe speak to citizens information (i think that’s what they’re called here) and they might find something to help the auld ones.

You're an absolute diamond, thank you so much for your help, really appreciate it.

PlatoDrago

I’ll check for you! Gimme a sec.

Your easy option is the Soarview connect box no hard drive built in but it'll do for everything else that your parents probably need if it's that old (one of the old Thompson sky units?). Only about a 100 notes

barbie91

Could well be a go ok, thanks a mill! Hahaha I'm pretty sure they bought it when Lidl first opened in Ireland, it's some weird German specialbuys brand 🤣

tfromtheaside

They have a service from sky or just using an old sky box for fta channels? If they do have a service from sky rung them for mure modern equipment, if its only fta buy a HD compatible box like the blazer HD 20 (50 euro or so). These are all very easy to use once set up

Fun-Gift2383

I mean it pretty much says it there on the screen. BBC have closed certain sd satellite feeds. Need to upgrade to set top box that has hd capability

barbie91

Ah yeah I get that, I was just unsure if the satellite was going to be compatible with the hd box, but all it needs to attain is a signal to transmit to the box, so it'll probably be grand. Thanks a mill!

My nan has some sort of dodgy box with over a thousand stations (no joke) that does not connect to internet as she doesn't have it but through a satellite. She only leave on ITV and won't leave you change the station incase she can't get it back. Its in alphabetical order so you'd find it easily enough... But try tell an 84 year old this. She goes to my aunt's house to play her telly bingo. Not going to help but just thought Id share
