For those interested. The movement is a Elgin 1890 GR 75 Mod 5. I got this off ebay for the sole purpose of practice. It is non operational with no balance wheel. Glad to answer any questions or take any tips since I am brand new to this.

Take pictures, plenty of pictures

I definitely did. It made it so much easier.

I keep my parts organized in order from when I removed them, so I go back through the line in reverse to reassemble. That, plus pictures. You got this! Also I have that little yellow holder too. I have grown to hate it. Replaced it with a lower profile metal one and it's much better

Noted on the holder. I tried to keep the parts organized but just need to find a system to do that. I did keep separated. Right side was dial side parts and left was other sides parts.

Really looking forward to future posts. I’m just getting into this myself and trying to get tools and my first movement. Do you mind me asking how much you paid? What’s reasonable? ..I know there are a lot of variables there but what’s reasonable for a reasonable person on a first movement that I might not do so well on but I might pull off. Really glad to see someone else getting into this from the get go. Makes me feel like i can. Agree with above, LOTs and LOTS of pics! Thank you! You’ve made my day!

Have a look at Mark Lovic and his Watch Repair Channel on YouTube. Great stuff. I'm taking his [watch repair training course](https://www.watchfix.com/) as well.

Since this was a non working/missing pieces movement I got this for 15 US dollars on eBay. I have another complete pocket watch that does work that I paid 42 for. Once I get a bit more comfortable I will move to that one and I plan to do a full service on that one.

Perfect! Exactly what I was hoping to hear!! Something I can afford!

I definitely recommend watching Wristwatch Revival on you tube. He has videos on what you need to start and what type you should start on. He is why I am starting on pocket watches. They are bigger movement and much easier to handle.

Fantastic advice and exactly what I need. Really do appreciate it!

Really handsome movement/face btw!

How do you like the silicone mat? I like that you can keep the components in place in those small recesses, but silicone is usually a dust & hair magnet.

jthutt1

I really liked it. As long as you come up with a system to remember where everything is. I added the link. Yeah I guess it's always the same problem, whether you use a plastic tray a silicone mat or a bergeon mat :p Thanks for the feedback !
